Unfortunately, the "rules" are made in Washington DC (Doofus Central) .. The local Post Office folks have tons of rules and regs to follow, and aren't permitted to use their common sense ... even if they have it. Rules first, what's right ... doesn't really matter (to the DC crowd). But ... we all know this, don't we?

FWIW, bought the wife a 709. It's not my favorite carry by any means (grips are too small for me), but she likes it. So far, it's gone "bang" each and every time the trigger's been pulled. No failures. Period. She's been used to a .22 Beretta Bobcat, so this was a big step up for her, and more importantly, she's CARRYING it. Times when she can't use an IWB or belt holster, she's used a belly band. Like I said: not my favorite, but it's easy to conceal. It fits in the cargo pocket of my uniform, and so far, totally reliable.

FWIW, been there and done that as well. Wife wasn't all that interested in shooting sports. Took me years, and yes, used the "shoot and supper date" method, along with many others, including trade-offs (such as trip to the range with me, traded for me going shopping with her. Uggg). Fast forward ... she took my Beretta 21A BUG away from me because it was "so cute." She shot it and liked it. Fast forward again, and she's giving it back, because we searched for a couple of months for "HER" gun (because she wanted "something bigger"). She chose a Taurus 709 Slim ... not my choice, but hers. And now, she's pretty good with it. Wants to go to the range weekly (for HER to shoot). And that's more than okay. Today she told me she wants a wheel gun, too. I'm tickled pink. Once she shows some interest, my suggestion is that you start her fairly close to the target. Once she becomes proficient (and that's ya'lls call ... doesn't have to be a 1-inch grouping), THEN move her back. Don't make the mistake of starting her at 10 or 15 yards. My missus wanted to shoot from MY starting point, and quickly became discouraged. I had to "gently" nudge her to begin closer to the target, and THEN work on longer distances. Doing well builds confidence, and well, heck, it's just a lot more FUN ... Now, she's back to the 10-yard line. And that's really good for someone who started out a "little afraid" of guns. Just my .

tnfireman and Farman ... Makes no difference whether career or volunteer ... The job takes a big heart ... guts ... and maybe a small brain ... to run INTO burning buildings while everyone else is running out ... (but FWIW, I'm there with you, brothers ...) I've been dumber 'a rock for a loooooong time now ... but it's all good ...

I've had two of the micros. Still have the first one ... got it in '07 ... love it. NEVER (so far) had a FTF. And for what it's worth, it's more accurate than I am. (I'd still have the other one, but money talks, so it took a walk.) I am no expert, but my Springfield has digested everything I've fed it so far --- probably a dozen or more different brands of self-defense and FMJ. I've not kept count of the rounds down the tube, but it would have to be easily over a thousand, and again, no problems --- not one. Not a problem with the first mag, not a problem with the last mag, and no problems in between. The next time out, it may have a problem, but if so, it will be the first. Like I said, I'm no expert with a handgun, but I can wear out the bullseye at 15 yards, and beyond that, out to 30, I can still keep it on the paper. Honestly, it is more accurate than my full-size Colt. And I LIKE Colts. I also like full-size 1911's, but the Colt stays in the safe. The Springer, I carry. Hope this helps.

The missus tells me that whats mine is hers, and whats hers is hers. So she'd keep the .357, and I'd buy a 9 mm. Seriously, if you want to keep the .357, keep it. I am "sentimentally" attached to a couple of things, as well, so I understand. There are a lot of good, inexpensive 9's out there.

Bump / Update on the Pleasant Shade Restaurant ... Great food, reasonable prices, really good folks running the place, and outstanding service. They are now open Sundays from 11 to 2 (I think). I've tried everything on the menu (pretty sure that's true), and so far, it's ALL good. Favorites, though, are the ribs and the fish. The missus favors the steaks. Again, not affiliated with this spot, but I like to share when I find something I like. Only drawback is that I may have to buy bigger britches. Friday and Saturday nights, you might have to wait a while. They are BUSY ... but usually, somebody's pickin' and grinnin' ... so free entertainment. If somebody's NOT providing the entertainment, it appears that the floor is open to anybody waiting for a table. And yeah, they are carry-friendly ...

Peanut butter and hot dogs in the same post ???????????? Now all we need is a little side of boiled cabbage with chocolate sauce ... and maybe a glass of butter milk to go with all that ... ...

Got the missus one of these a little while back. So far, so good. No failures of any shape, sort, or size. Ain't the most accurate thing I've shot, though. Might be the pull, or it might be the small grip ... ... or it just might be me. But so far, about 300 rounds in, it's gone "bang" each and every time. We've tried 4 different brands of ammo so far with no problems (except accuracy). The missus loves it. Her "groupings" aren't groupings --- they're spread all over the place. But so far, again, every round has at least hit the target.

So ... ... personal, private sales, or garage sales ... ... ... Well, maybe I'll just "give" you something you want, and then, maybe, you'll just "give" me something. You know, like a cash gift? I didn't sell a cotton-pickin' thing. You didn't buy a pea-pickin' thing. Just two good fellers, tryin' to "hep a brother out." No sale, no tax ??? I'm just thinkin' out loud -- I'd NEVER do such a thing, of course. Why, that'd be sort of ... sort of ... I don't know -- -- the RIGHT thing, since sales tax has ALREADY been paid?

Story about a positive experience: 16, fast car, stupid ... sober ... but STUPID. I was doing about 112 in a 45-mph zone, and a THP Trooper pulled out in front of me with lights flashing, going after my buddy (who was in front of me). Double-yellow lines, 2-lane road, on-coming traffic, and roads were wet. I passed him. Swear. It was either pass him or rear-end him. (I said I was stupid.) Took me about a mile to get stopped (because I had to speed up to get around the THP before I met the oncoming car head-on). He actually turned off his emergency lights and pulled in behind me. I got out, walked back to his driver's side window, and watched him scrub his face with both hands. Took about a minute before he rolled his window down and told me to "GET IN!" Took him about 3 more minutes to speak after that. Figured I'd be put under the jail, or just shot right there on the spot. But after he calmed down, I got a good tongue lashing, a warning ticket (for doing 55 in a 45), and he followed me home. Made me get my Pa out of bed, then backed out of our drive, leaving me to "explain" the situation. I'da ruther been carried to jail ... ... Fast forward 10 years almost to the month. Stopped me again, about 10 over the limit. I reminded him of the episode from 10 years before (and yeah, I already SAID I was stupid). He let me go again! Told me if I could go 10 more years without him stopping me, he'd probably let me off again. He was a really good guy. He was killed in a traffic accident before the next 10 years passed, and to this day, because of him, I try really hard to obey the traffic laws ... ... I've only had 2 "unpleasant" experiences with LEOs. But this one was the best ...

First ... I agree that leaving her your weapon was more than acceptable ... But, just for the sake of discussion, how about this: You let her and the kids take YOUR vehicle; you and your client stay with HER vehicle while SHE gets the gas and returns to you? Just thinkin' out loud ... ...

Springfield UltraCompact ... so far, mine has never failed to go "bang." And it ain't particular about what ammo I feed it, from cheap ball to the best defense round I've tried. (It has had a little custom work, though. JMR Gunsmith, Brush Creek) And although I don't claim to be a great shot ... ... I hit what I aim at, out to about 15 yards. I don't practice a lot at longer distances. Figure that's plenty far enough for my purposes. I need something for a threat further away, I'll take a long gun. 'Course, if I can't get to a rifle, guess I'll just have to hunker down and wait 'til the threat gets closer. FWIW, I ain't any better with my 5" SA than I am with my shorter version. Just my

Done ... I asked her to read your posts on purse carry, and that pretty much nixed it for her. We tried a couple of IWB holsters, but she just wasn't comfortable there. Soooo .... .... we ended up with an OWB (G&G Belt Slide) and a belly band, thanks to your encouragement. She's been pretty faithful to have one or the other in use ever since -- mainly the belly band, since the weather's warmed up. She claims it's comfortable, and it does a really good job of concealment, even in her more fitted tops. Thanks again, Mama

Similar with my wife. She decided on a Taurus 709 Slim, and, thanks to PackinMama, a belly band for concealed carry. Days or times when the Slim is too large, she still is toting a Beretta 21A in .22LR. The Beretta pop-up eliminates the need to rack the slide to chamber a round, and with the Taurus, she is able to chamber a round; it was about the only thing she tried where she could do that. She's still a better shot with the .22, but I'm pleased and proud to say that we've been spending time weekly on gun handling and target practice. She's gettin' better every trip. And I'll agree that a .22 that's with you is better than anything else that's left behind.

Mentioned pig brains and eggs when I was a youngster in college. My buddy couldn't believe I'd tried it. Told him I had tried it, and I liked it. He said, "I'd NEVER eat something that came out of a pig's head." I asked him if he knew where eggs came from. Think he swore off them, too.

Understand, Jason. But as we grow older (and I'm double your age), we learn that we must do what we must do as good men and providers. I gave up a couple of old Colts a year or so back when the need for cash exceeded the "want." So I do understand. Just remember that the sun still rises in the East, and Brothers are still faithful friends. God first, family next. Keep that in mind, and things take on a better perspective. Got two shoulders if you need another.
