  1. Wife had this done a few years back.  Was given anesthesia for the stint (spelling?), but not the lithotripsy.  She's had kidney stones since she was about 16 -- says it hurts worse than giving birth when those little buggers start moving.  So a procedure that breaks the stone up into smaller pieces (as I understand lithotripsy -- but I'm not a doc), she's all in.   As others noted --- sometimes we just hafta go with what the doc says.
  2. There's nothing to worry about until you have your hand on the bathroom doorknob and can't remember if you are going in or coming out!
  3. Got one -- goes with me pert near everywhere.   But I didn't like the folding grip (mine was kinda loose it seemed).  Also hard to hang onto with the little wood factory grips with the magnums. I like the oversized rubber grips (even if they are nearly as big as the rest of the revolver).   But, as others have said, it is well made and reliable.
  4. Prayers for both Lowbuster and musicman and families.  Keep us posted, please.
  5. All the above is good advice.  Some of the Registry questions are -- shall we say -- poorly phrased (I started to say "moronic").   Read all the options, then pick the "best" one -- and as noted by Red, don't second-guess your answers.   You got this -- but we'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers as an extra measure of assurance.
  6. Just saw the thread, Bersa.  Our prayers and thoughts are with you and yours, and we'll keep sending messages to the Great Physician until we hear otherwise.  God Bless !!
  7. Pretty nice shootin'.   What ??? I'm a grampaw with a 14-year-old grand-daughter -- I ain't allowed to notice anything else in the video ...
  8. Wife's had it.  My boy and his whole brood have had it.  And it does seem to be a really nasty bug.   So far ... I've missed it.  So far ...
  9. Thumbs up, Brother.  Will keep ya'll in our thoughts and prayers.
  10. My boy is all grown up, but I have a 14-year-old grand-daughter.  Done a number on me, too.  As others have noted, very happy, indeed, that she is safe and well.  Prayers for the family continue, as well as thanks to the Good Lord above for answered prayers.
  11. Just saw this.  Shared on FB.  Praying for her, you, and yours.
  12. We ran a few mags over the weekend.  Can't tell any diff in function or trigger.   Happy, happy, happy ...
  13. And NEXT month, we'll stick a tree up an angel's butt ...
  14. At the barn, tending some calves.  Got called to the house, and watched news until milking time. Back to the news after milking.   I well remember how it affected everyone, especially the folks of my parents' generation. It was a personal loss, a very deep grief for the older folks; I thought of JFK's death, and how it hit everyone during the 9/11 attacks, when I went through the emotions of that.  Maybe it's not a very good comparison for most, but it was for me.   Somehow, events like these two gets into the deepest parts of us, makes us aware of our own mortality, and causes us to question so many things ... and then there's this spark, this little ... something ... that just rips your heart out.  With JFK, it was John-John saluting his father's coffin.  With 9/11, for me, it was the faces of the firefighters, that "look" that seemed to say "we're not coming out of this one."
  15. No, Greg.  You did not do any wrong.  None.  Nary a bit.
  16. Pleased to hear that you found another dog who can bring a little joy into your life.  Also pleased to hear that you have already brought some joy into his ...
  17. True, true.  Sorry yours is "out of line," so to speak.  Maybe it's 'cause I'm such a good feller :x: .   Or maybe they are planning on giving yours some special treatment, taking a little longer ... at least that would make sense. Hope you get it back soon --- as for mine, my son swooped in, grabbed it and a box of ammo,  and said he'd give 'er a try tomorrow.  So I STILL don't have it ... :shake:
  18. It's back ... ... finally ... along with an extra mag and a sleeve and a cheap plastic case. But hey, it's back !!! Will be glad to get a chance to put a few rounds down the tube.   But -- but -- FedEx noted, at 7:06 AM today, that delivery would be made "by 8 PM." That's about as bad as the wait for the repairs !!! With it on the delivery truck at 7:06 AM, one would think that FedEx could narrow that delivery window from 13 hours to something a little easier to wait for ... ...   Even with it back, I can find a couple of things to "gripe" about, it seems ...
  19. Thanks for posting this, and reminding us -- once again -- of the things that are important in life. Great video.
  20. Ladyhay, security systems aren't all the same; recommendations would depend on where you live (you can PM me if you wish, and care to share your city or town), and what, exactly, you are looking for -- a PM to Dralarms might be in order, too, if he doesn't weigh in ... but a good system needs to be designed after an on-site evaluation; you can get a pretty decent idea of what you will need from a phone call, though.   And as far as your "freezing," I'm with joe45 -- mothers -- good mothers -- will do pert near ANYTHING to take care of their children.  I have no doubt that you will respond appropriately (especially with training).  Another option to the taser is a good 'ol can of wasp and hornet spray.  You don't have to be as close (some of those hornet sprays will reach 15 to 20 feet), and a shot to the eyes will *temporarily* disable/blind someone.  You may have to hit your local Farmers Co-op or a similar type store for some of that stuff.   Again, good luck -- and the suggestions for motion-sensor lighting, etc., is spot-on, along with dead-bolt locks, etc.
  21. Delivered to factory 9  September; got an e-mail yesterday indicating return delivery to residence tomorrow (22 Nov) -- 75 days, if it makes it here by tomorrow ... and if I didn't miscount.
  22. As MacGyver noted (and stated quite well), firearm/ammo selection is only part of your concerns.  I know time is limited here, but one-on-one professional guidance would seem to be helpful -- from someone who deals with this from a professional point -- and yes, there is ammunition that is *designed* for your scenario (entering but not exiting).  And while "more is (usually) better," a 5-shot revolver that you are comfortable with -- and proficient with -- trumps most anything else that you are NOT comfortable or proficient with.  So again, professional guidance -- someone on the forum who has more knowledge than I do can probably help out with that.   Another consideration -- security system for the home; NOT an "alarm," but a security system.  Dralarms can weigh in on that issue much better than I can, but I wouldn't do without mine.  A good system won't keep someone out (and neither will deadbolts, etc.) but it WILL alert you that an attempt is/has been made to enter your home.  Provides my family with a good deal of piece of mind, both while we are at home and while we are away.   Other questions you asked: Recoil: yes, there is ammo on the market with reduced recoil -- but in my experience, it helps to practice with what you are going to use; Stopping power: 'Pert near any ammo or caliber will stop someone if shot is properly placed (including the lowly .22 -- but I wouldn't recommend it for a defensive round) Accuracy: The old adage that "practice makes perfect" applies here -- I once had a Walther that I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with, even with practice; so try that .38 before you bet your life on it, although it's a good platform and a good round. Concealment: Depends on how you wear it -- but don't scrimp on a good holster, however you choose to carry it. Laser: My wife loves hers (also on a .38 snubbie -- S&W J-frame 637).  I wouldn't give a quarter for one, on the other hand.   Best wishes, and good luck.  Hopefully others will weigh in with more and better info than I have.   J.
  23. Sorry -- truly hate that you were involved in any kind of accident.  Been there myself a couple times.   But if you walked away, it was a GOOD day ...
  24. Would like to say "thanks" to each and every one who has served or is serving.   Had our Veteran's Day Parade on Sunday.  Was very disappointed at the low turnout, especially considering that we had two WW II vets in attendance; based on their age, this just might be the last one that they are able to attend.  Noticed a Korean vet was missing this time -- but others, all the way up through the current Middle-East Wars, were there and honored.   I did take the grands, just so that they could meet these heroes and hear a little of their experiences.  Might just be the most important thing I've ever taken them to !!
  25. Cross-draw holster?  Have one that works well that I wear while driving ... ... assume it would work well while seated in the office.  'Course, that would mean a suit or jacket if it needed to be covered.  I also wear a shoulder-holster occasionally.  It does take practice and discipline, but is a viable option (again, assuming a suit or jacket is worn).   Baton or other suitable close-quarters weapon also seems viable, again, with training and practice.   As others have noted, I do not envy your position ...
