As the title states, I am looking for a good pair of winter mountaineering boots. The terrain is pretty rugged where I am and if it's anything like last winter I'll be looking at upwards of 3 feet of snow. I already have a few pairs of boots picked out, but I always like hearing peoples suggestions. Here is what I'm looking for; I need to be able to walk upwards of 10 miles comfortably in them, must be water proof, have a sole strong enough to handle rocky terrain, be cramp-on compatable (I'll be snow shoeing in these as well), they must come in a 13/13.5 (47/47.5), they must be a leather boot (I've never liked the plastic ones) and above all not be brightly colored (prefered earth tones or greys and blacks). Here are the boots I'm currently looking at: La Sportiva Men's Glacier Boot - Free Shipping on La Sportiva orders over $49 at Moosejaw_ La Sportiva Makalu Boot - Free Shipping on La Sportiva orders over $49 at Moosejaw_ Scarpa Men's Liskamm GTX Boot - Free Shipping on Scarpa orders over $49 at Moosejaw_ These will unfortunantly be an internet purchase and I'm not partial to one vendor over another. Thanks in advance for the suggestions and advice.

I snatched one up from D&T a few months ago while I was in there picking up a few other impractical guns (according to my wife). I was in there to pick up a Puma 92 in .454 and a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 and saw the Ranchhand in .45lc on the shelf so I had Dave throw that one in the pile as well. It is a blast to shoot, to me it doesn't matter how practical it is as long at it's a joy to shoot. I didn't grow up watching Steve McQueen, Dad grew me up on John Wayne more than anything. I've got my revolvers in all different calibers and a few lever actions but I still prefer to shoot my Ranchhand. It's an attention grabber and the .45lc had little to no kick out of it, atleast for me. One little thing though, I took it to MCSC and I was told that I can't shoot it on the pistol range because it was a carbine that fired a round bigger than a .22. I told the RSO that it was a pistol and he didn't believe me and asked what it was and who made it. Since he didn't know what it was he asked me to take it to the rifle range. I did as I was asked and proceeded to pull out the Super Redhawk and let that little guy breathe some fire. I say get one, you'll enjoy it.

Well it worked in WWI so why wouldn't it work in WWZ?

Good job GunTroll, if I was home still I'd keep my ear out for you. Sorry I never made it down before I left, the projects I had lined up before leaving kept me busy, painting, building a book shelf from scratch and putting up new stair rails. I think it's good to see that you are willing to do this. I know it will turn out great from seeing your other projects. Good luck and I hope the project pans out well for you.

I got this little guy and it's works great on everything from Sig, Springfield XDs, 1911s and Glocks (at $155): Kaiser Shooting Uni-Tool Universal Front and Rear Pistol Sight Installation Tool - MidwayUSA used your idea and it works good, I like a brass hammer on brass punches though.

Glad to see she's coming together. If your slide was cut for a Colt extreme duty sights you would already have sights on her. I've been sitting on the set I've got for to long. I like the grips though, I can't wait to see it complete.

Aside from the coach gun and the revolvers pictured from left to right is a Puma 92 in .454 casull/.45 lc, next lever is a Ithica M49 in .22lr and last is a Rossi Ranch Hand in .45 lc. I love shooting revolvers and lever actions. The Ranch Hand shoots a little high but is consistent, the 92 is dead on and so is the Ithica. The Ithica was my dad's first gun.

He has had tennis elbow (I think that's what it's called) and my 45lc kicks to much so he can't shoot it as long. The heritage, he can shoot all day with little problem.

I went through the SERE in NC, one thing I can say is you can't war-game it. I had friends go through the course before and after me and each class had it's differences. I second Mr.Brooks, get some comfortable boots. Take what they teach you and remember it, there won't be a time where you won't be "playing the game" so to speak. Good luck with it.

I just got one for my dad since he has elbow problems and had difficulties shooting my other SA revolvers. We went to the range last night and he loves it, good shooting little pistol and well worth the 165$ I paid for it.

Check the price of the calibers you're looking at. That would be my biggest piece of advice. I have 2 .22lr SA revolvers, cheaper than dirt to shoot...obviously. A .30 cal carbine SA revolver, only shoots brass cased ammo and hard to find. Also a .45lc, great gun and I get my ammo from the TN cartridge company for .46 cents a round. I like the .357 but I only have it in a double action, along with a .38...again double action. If you want some real powder behind your round, I have a .454 casull in double action that is a real noise maker...ammo is expensive and hard to find. Just price how much it will cost you a year to shoot. My revolvers range from Rugers to Uberti to Rossi to Heritage to FIE and I would gladly buy Ruger and Uberti over and over again.

I've ran the magpul miad on my ARs for a couple years now, I love the bowed trigger guard and the adjustable grip.
-
By far the most fun, Rossi Ranch Hand in .45LC By far my best shooter, Sig P226 in 9mm (minus the extra slide and 1 mag, those are gone.) I couldn't decide so you all get 2

Well all baked goods aside, the guys at D&T Arms are great guys. Great conversation and very knowledgable. Any of the guys there can be of help, and despite the promise I made to my wife (the promise was that I wouldn't buy any more guns this year) they always have something I'm tempted to break that promise for.

Well I've never indulged in a cup of coffee, but you had cake and were keeping it from me. You should know I have a fat man inside of me who needs food too.

I just looked that one up, it's about 90 miles away. If I didn't have other things to today I would head down there, but I have meetings I have to hit.

Well looks like guns and leather it is. Maybe if I wasn't an hour and a half from CHMR I would become a member, gas is just too damned expensive.

So I have tomorrow off of work. Im looking to go shooting, early is better. From the look on the Montgomery county shooting complex calander it looks like they won't be open. I haven't seen anything lately from the TN custom gunsmithing range, that and his hours were shotty at best when I knew he was open. I looking for a good 50-100 yard (meter) range to shoot some AR15s and 10/22s, and a 25 yard (meter) range to shoot some revolvers and shotguns. I'm willing to drive about an hour and a half for an outdoor range, I'll be coming from the south side of Clarksville. So my question to the forum, where can I go shooting at, where I don't need to be a member and can get some good quality shooting in? Does anyone knows if owl hollow allows walk ons, I've only been there for the tgo shoots last year? Help is appreciated, I really don't want to be bored tomorrow because my wife will talk me into painting the stairwells in the house, and I really don't want to do that.

How long is the training after the selection? I already fell for that trick once, I won't be fooled again.
-
Another one...how long is this one going to be?

I'd be interested in joining the Clarksville chapter. Where do I sign up at?
