  1. It's been a number of years since Dad and I have had a John Wayne marathon. We used to do that when I was a kid instead of watching cartoons on Saturday's and Sunday's. I'd venture to say I've seen just about every John Wayne movie made and quite a few more spaghetti westerns than most could handle. I'm looking for my next movie to download on the iPad to enlighten the younger guys I work with who's parents neglected to show them this genre of cinematography. I've already shown the The Green Berets and True Grit and tonight it's The Alamo. Looking for opinions on what The Duke's best movie is.
  2. I think everyone is forgetting the final gunfight in Way Of The Gun....realistic reloads, no hollywood infinite ammo guns. Equilibrium has some pretty sweet fight scenes in it too. If you haven't seen it you should, and if you haven't seen Way Of The Gun then shame on you.
  3. Used these for a while, the 500 series I believe and they work great. I've been able to use the radio feature just shy of a mile straight line distance and minimal structures between. The other nice thing is with both on the same channel you will get the grid location of the other gps when they transmit their radio traffic, makes it easy to help out hunting buddies. It's a little bulky though, I've also got a garmin etrex vista and foretrex 401, no radio feature on those though.
  4. Only if I can do one up just like it for your son. I just called up my dad because I saw a Winchester 1987 and a Stevens Crackshot for sale in his area...I hinted maybe he should get those for Christmas for me...can't beat both for $300.
  5. Very nice, lucky son you have there. I asked my 4-y-o daughter if she wanted a gun for Christmas and her reply was "No, I'm a princess and they don't have guns". I guess when I get back to the house I'll have to undo my wife's brainwashing.
  6. I've got the Oakley Juliets in grey/black, Oakley M Frame and M Frame 2.0 with numerous lenses, Oakley Half Jacket XJL, Oakley Flakjacket XJL...what you're likely to catch me wearing when shooting indoors or mountain biking are my Native Hardtops and out and about my pair of Oakley Gascans. Gotta love promotive.com and 3point5.com for their discounts.
  7. You didn't know? That's how they do it in Johnson City, I got some folks here at work from around that area...the call it "instinctive shooting" or something to that extent. It was hard to make out the words throught his moonshined stooper.
  8. Well as I stated in the first post, "I'm not 10% smarter than the peice of equipment I'm trying to operate". One of the guys here is smart on Apple products and he went into the general settings and I had somehow restricted the access to iTunes not allowing it to be seen. So it was me just not knowing how to work this thing. I'm more mechanically inclined, technology is my enemy. As for it crashing on me, I still have no idea why it did that. There was no new apps on there that hadn't been there for months, and I'm not sure which update I was working off of. I do not have 5 on here yet, I'm looking for a computer I can hijack long enough to put it on there. My next battle is downloading books on iBook, althought I think I already solved that issue. It wasn't allowing me to download after purchase. It would tell me that I already purchased it and I needed to click download not purchase...or something to that extent, so after I figured out how to shut it down completely it started to download the right way finally. Did I mention I hate technology? I can work on cars, I can work on guns, I can take most anything apart and get it back together, I can solve those stupid little mind puzzles at Cracker Barrel, but put a computer in front of me and I will screw it up...but I can take it apart.
  9. I'm looking forward to my daughter turning 4 in April, she's getting a Ruger 10/22 with some add-ons for her 4th birthday and I'll spend the next year working on safety and general fundamentals with her. Laser boresights are good for that, shows her what the barrels pointed at atleast. I figure she won't get a pistol until her 9th or 10th birthday. I'm looking forward to teaching her and maybe taking her to the range with my wife so she can be around them so she's not scared the first time I let her pull the trigger...that might be the 5th birthday outting. Here's her gift, picked it up from graycrait, a harris bipod to help her shoot: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/long-guns/55873-super-10-22-works-finally.html
  10. Much anticipated and what I figured it'd be. I don't talk the laws unless I can quote them, which in most cases I can't because there's too much useless stuff rattling around in my head. I've never had a good experience at any gun show. I've only ever bought 2 guns (XD45 - 500 OTD and a S&W M&P15OR - 1200 OTD (Obama scare AR, and must have for dad)). I don't go to them anymore unless I have something to sell. I'll rely on my local and trusted gun shops to have what I am looking for or to order it. The BS there is usually pretty accurate unless it's coming from some random patron. It's a shame that gun shows aren't what they used to be. I remember when I was younger going with dad and seeing all the "deals" and being able to find an AK for under $300 or a nice old eastern block gun still in the wax paper for under $100. Not so much anymore, people forget it's a gun show not a gun shop. I doubt I'll be attending the gunshows here in TN anymore, never was impressed by them. I may still go in OH when I'm visiting dad, mainly because the gun shops in OH are horrible and way over priced. I need to get the rest of the family down to TN.
  11. Looks like I'll be adjusting my wish list to include to either the 1911 Fastback Nightmare and the P938 Equinox or Extreme. I wish they were making a P938 like the P238 HD.
  12. I'm definantly down for something like that...that is if we can do it this coming spring, I'll be able to push quite a bit of money into that around that time, and my wife likes it when I can find a deal on guns since she knows I'm going to buy them anyways. I say we start looking into what we need to do to make it legal and doing something like that here around Nashville, that should appease this half of the state I would think...and it'd be a great meet and greet.
  13. I tried to get an iCloud account, I guess I fall just shy of the "be 10% smarter than the piece of equipment you're trying to operate". I'd love to hit up an Apple store, I need an HDMI hook up for it so I can watch movies on a projector....just don't have any in the country I'm in at the moment. I'll try to iCloud thing again and see if it will work. If not I may just end up "acquiring" a computer to do this, just not sure where I'll get it from yet, I figured I'd need a computer for it...stupid Apple products anyways....I hate technology.
  14. Well here's the story, about a month ago my iPad crashed deleting everything off it. At the time I had a computer to perform a backup, which for the most part atleast got the screen back on. I no longer have access to a computer with iTunes on it and after exploring my iPad I noticed that I no longer have iTunes on it. Extreme inconvience for me. I do have access to a wireless network, but no computer to connect to. Does anyone know how I can put iTunes back on my iPad without a computer connection? I've exausted my options on the Apple website. Thanks in advance for any help on this issue.
  15. My first AR was a S&W M&P15 OR, this was a nice start and with my background in firearms I immediately logged onto Brownells, MidwayUSA, BCM and a few others and started looking for items to "trick" it out. My second was a "custom" piston assembly of all the parts that I wanted to see, but couldn't find at the time. My third was another assembly of the parts that I was torn between on the first "custom" assembly and didn't already have on the S&W. The S&W cost me $1200 at the time thanks to the Obama scare during his election, my second was only a few months after that and it totaled up to be around $3k without all the extras I though I needed at the time and my third was just shy of $1k. I've since assembled and assisted in the assembly of about a dozen or so other AR's and worked on countless other AR styled rifles. I would say to do your homework on the parts and if you are looking for something particular or something tacticool then assemble it yourself with the parts that you want...if a similar product isn't already being producted at a cheaper price than you can assemble it for. I always start out with an excel document listing all the parts I want and how much they cost from various vendors...I know I've had a lot of time on my hands. From there I see if anything is being made that fills that shoe. If you are thinking about how you can "trick" out the rifle that you are only looking at then I say save up more and either assemble it or buy a model that may cost more but has what you want on it. Like many others here who have assembled their own, I've got bins of parts laying around. The last one that I assembled for a friend of mine all he had to provide was a barrel, upper and stripped lower, I had all the other parts laying around. I had those parts because there was always some other "shiny spoon" that caught my eye during the builds. Good luck with your choices and good luck with staying "done" once you get it. And for GunTroll since he has started to convert me, it's an assembly and not a build because it's like putting together Lego's, just gotta make sure you're putting the right pins in the right spot.
  16. Well I tried to edit this to put the link in instead of the picture, but it won't let me for some reason, I'm going to blame the computer. Here's the link: Surviving the Undead: Zombie Guns | Outdoor Life Survival
  17. I think this may be the ultimate add-on for any zombie gun with a rail system. Lauer Weaponry makes it apparently and it works off of .22 blanks. I think I might have to do some more looking into on this one.
  18. Well my computer had been a POS lately and it finally loaded the pics this time I looked at it. That looks painful. I did something similar about 2 months ago to my big toe on my right foot. I was moving 55 gal drums of fuel around and one of them fell off the forks and caught my big toe. I thought I broke it, the toe split and my shoe was all bloody. I've got half a new toe nail and one less pair of shoes. Good luck with the recovery, it took me about 2 weeks before I stopped hobbling around.
  19. Looks interesting, I may have to see if MidwayUSA is going to carry this and I'll throw it in the mix with some Zombie ammo.
  20. I've seen him shoot....he still might need a short ruler. I can't wait to get back and see this finished, unfortunantly for me a gun safe is holding up my gun buying/building for a little while. Good luck with the build B, I see the reason behind the PM now. I'm down for helping out how I can.
  21. Tell him it's time to man up and get him a Ruger Super Redhawk in the .454 Casull/.45 Colt combo...the .45 Colt is for those days he wants to just plink around...I'm kidding, I have one and it's a bear to shoot a lot, not to mention the cost and availability of .454 Casull. I would go with the SP101 in the .38 it seems like it would fit the bill. although I'm pretty partial to Single Actions myself, and have you looked at any of the Heritage Big Bore SAA Revolvers or anything from Uberti?
  22. Well you're a little far from D&T Arms after looking it up, but check out a Cimmaron 1878 Coach Gun, Shotguns - Cimarron Firearms - Old West Guns and Cowboy Action Shooting Firearms,. If that's not exactly what you're looking for at least the model number will point you in the direction of another manufacturer. Good luck with the search.
  23. I've always just wrapped the parts with surface rust on them in an oil rag and let it sit for a day or 2 reoiling the rag anytime I passed by then with a coarse nylon brush and oil I'd give it a good scrubbing.
  24. I have almost the same 2 weapons, my Uberti is the 5.5" barreled with standard SAA grips and my Heritage doesn't have the magnum cylinder. Both of mine are excellent shooters, I haven't noticed any color variations in the Heritage, I'll have to pull it out for a closer examination (but for the $150 new that I paid for it I wouldn't care). I am looking to get the Uberti 1873 Cattleman with the birds head grip. I have a FIE Little Ranger (.22lr) with the birds head grip and it is by far one of the most comfortable grips on a revolver I've had. I'll have to agree with you when it comes to Uberti's being a little rough out of the box, they could use a little smoothing out. Too bad that the Heritage isn't living up the the expectations you had for it, I guess there can always be a lemon out there.
