And yet another thing to add to that Midway order. Dolomite -
And this is why you need a holster, even with a pocket gun, that covers the trigger. I don't care if it has a safety or is a DAO gun. Too bad he is a HCP holder. It could have been a lot worse. Had the gun severed the guys femoral artery then he would have been taken to the morgue rather than jail. Or if he had killed the child. Now the fun begins and I bet his defense will be " I thought I was being shot at like Aurora" and that is why I ran. Dolomite

There is a thought process behind that. I can't recall exactly what it is but something to do with the rifling causes the gun to twist in a way to counteract the torque when a right handed shooter shoots the pistol. Supposedly keeps the gun more stabile during fast follow up shots by a right handed shooter. Dolomite

Just to expound on what TMF is saying. In modern times the rounds will either fire immediately or they will not fire at all. I shoot a LOT and I have never had a hangfire from modern ammunition, ever. Only misfires. And yes some will go off if tried again but for shooting that should never be immediately. You need to clear the malfunction and continue oterhwise you will find yourself trying that misfire a second time during a firefight. And the odds of having two bad cartridges in a row are astronomical, as in buy a lottery ticket astronomical. Modern ammunition is a lot more resilient than in the past. They are able to endure harsh enviroments and still work great. Just to give you an idea of how resilient ammunition can be. Almost every time the clothes are washed my wife brings in a few rounds that have went through the washer and the dryer. Now most of the are rimfire but even with that they almost always fire, 9 out of 10 will. And with centerfire they ALWAYS fire even after a wash and dry cycle. If you are at a range and want to get rid of unwanted rounds then drop them in the dud box. I have never seen a commercial range that didn't have one. Dolomite

If I have a misfire I almost always clear it immediately, especially if it is with my EDC gun. Anything you do builds muscle memory and it is that memory you revert to in times of stress. So I train as I fight. I may go back and inspect the round when I get a chance but not AR the time of the malfunction. On my personal range at home I generally just leave them on the ground. Because I mostly shoot rimfires they will deactivate in a few days of wet. Dolomite

I had a bunch from my subsonic Tokarev projects. I would say a 30 Carbine bullet would work just as well. Dolomite -

Same as 7.62x39. I actually built a bolt gun in x39 and never really shot it for accuracy. I decided to dump the x39 and go with BLK because I am able to find load data for using HEAVY bullets. But as far as hunting deer I can see it being very effective as long as you think of it like a 30-30. The ballistics are nearly identical between the BLK and the 30-30 except the BLK can use pointy bullets. For me I am using it for a cheap and easy way to shoot 30 caliber bullets. I also like the fact it has very little recoil because I do not tolerate it well since a helicopter accident. Dolomite -
Got any Lyman slugs that were fired into the sand? I have a bunch cast from your mold. I would like to see how well they work. Dolomite

L-R: 86 grain FMJ, 100 grain cast, 168 grain cast, 175 grain FP cast, 180 grain cast, 208 A-Max, 230 grain BT cast The 86 grain bullets are pulls from the 7.62x25 Tokarev. I read some where where the 86 grain bullets were being pushed to close to 3k. They are .308" also without doing anything to them. Not sure which ones I will actually load but I think the 86 grainers and the 230 grainers will be on the top of the list. If I am going to load something to super velocities then I am going SUPER. And then this happened. I was sitting here staring off into space then something came into focus. My 55 grain .31 caliber balls I cast for my slingshot. I decided to size one down and wouldn't you know it looks mighty nice in the 300 blk case. About 1/2 the ball sticks out and the sizing process gave me about a 1/4" of bearing surface. Now it would never work for a AR you wanted to cycle but for a bolt gun or an AR that you wanted to shoot single shot it would. I would not push it too fast but it would make a great little squirrel bullet. Get the velocity to around 1,000 fps and it should not tear a squirrel up too bad. And on top of that it would be miserly with the powder and probably pretty quiet as well if you used some very fast powders. Dolomite

I actually made a die that folds the open end of the cut 12 gauge shells in at a 45 degree angle. With it being "tapered" it makes it cycle better in my Saiga even though it runs great anyways. I have also found that Federal bulk is better than anything else. It is because the cups do not have ribs and the slugs just drop right in. I know Winchester uses cups with a internal rib so you have to swap the cups out when using slugs. Dolomite

Should have take a picture, but I was too busy bandaging him up!

Glad we have another "caster" on the board. It is a great thing to be able to shoot slugs for .25 each. I cut the tops out of bulk 12 gauge then dump out the shot. Melt it into slugs and drop them back in. Another great thing about doing it this way is they do not pound you like regular slug loads. Caster has helped me out immensely as well. With his encouragement I now cast everything I shoot. Nothing like loaded 45 acp for .05 each. Dolomite

Until you have been faced with a situation like this you have ZERO clue how you are going to act or react. We all have grand illussions about how we are going to be the great hero but in reality most of us won't. The majority of us are going to stunned by the violence of action and then do what we need to in order to survive, including run. Now there are things that can help you cope and hopefully act during a situation like this. Training is one but no amount of training will prepare you for the feeling you get when it is a life and death situation. Another is life experiences. If a person is a gangbanger that has been shot several times they are going to react very differently than a housewife to an active shooter. And to go a bit farther your physical condition can also affect that. If you are sick it can have a negative impact or if you are physically fit you can deal with the adrenaline better. We can all sit here and play things out in our head but in reality it is only our imagination. And our imagination is not going to kill us. I HAVE been in several situations in which I could have lost my life. I will say the first time I was scared ####less but because of training it helped me cope and eventually react. After going through similar situaitons over and over again I guess you could say I became accustomed to dealing with it. And even today I cannot guarantee I would act, I would hope I would but you never know it that moment in time. Dolomite

I take it you worked for them. If you did then you are part of the problem. If not then it is speculation and rumor. Dolomite -

Well if he did do a face to face on a pistol out of state it is pretty stupid on his part as well as the dealer's part. Not sure how the dealer got around the background unless it wasn't in inventory which it doesn't sound like it because it was on GB. Or maybe the dealer let one of the cousins buy it then the OP took possession of it. Or maybe the dealer had no clue the OP was from out of state but I don't think that is the case because they haggled the deal. But unless it was transferred into his state of residence the OP broke the law. And if he is taking a trip every month or two to purchase firearms out of state he is in for some serious problems if caught. That is unless he is transferring every one of them and if that is the case the deals are not that great of a deal. Definitely time to think about how to stay out of the FPMITAP. Dolomite

Have her handle a Sig 938 or maybe a EMP. They are a little more than the Solo but they are also a much better gun. I too have heard of issues with the Solo early on. I would make sure it is in fact a current production gun and not somethng that has been sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Dolomite

I believe he was saying the dealer had his pistol listed on GB and was from VA. Not that he went up there and bought it. Dealers down here belly ache all the time about how they don't make any money but they do or at least the hundreds of deals I have watched they do. Most of their money is made on used guns but they do make a fair amount on new guns as well. I have seen it hundreds of times where a deaker will buy a used gun then double that for an asking price. I have seen them take a $300 pistol in on trade and give the seller $100 trade in value then sell it 3 minutes later for $250. I have seen the same dealer asking $579 for the Keltec a PMR-30. I know he is getting them for 1/2 that because CDNN sells them all the time for $299. So the dealers are making money on people who are either too trusting or don't know the value of their gun. Another thing, as a seller you need to know the value of your gun. All to often people don't know the value of their guns and let them go way to cheap. I watched a guy sell a very nice Colt SAA first generation for nearlty nothing. The dealer belly ached about how it was an old gun and notbody wanted those. In the end, if I remember correctly, the Colt sold for under $300 to the dealer. I walked by a few minutes later and the dealer had $2,500 on the gun and would likely get close to that. I have threatened to do gun appraisals at the shows. Every dealer I mentioned that to looked at me like I had killed their first born. I even had one dealer say I might not make it out of the parking lot if I did. I know if someone did that they could make a lot of money doing it. Even if you only charged 1% of the apprasal price you could really clean up. There are local dealers that BEAT online sellers. It is the dealers that do not have a fancy store or realize they do not need to make $100 on every sale. One in particular is responsible for nearly all my new gun purchases in the last 2 years.
