  1. I have some of the store bought Permethrin and noticed ( after spraying it) that it isn't good for being around cats. If you have cats around the house, keep them indoors and or away from the area you are spraying at and do not let them near it until your sprayed articles are dry.

I have one cat and noticed she was acting funny ( even just being around a small ammount of it).

Wear light colored clothing when youre outside if possible. Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors and the carbondioxide we breathe out.

Permethrin is highly toxic to cats.  I get my permethrin from work.  I typically make up a fairly strong emulsion @ around 5%, and I spray it all over my clothes, exposed skin, and hair whenever I work in the woods.

I do not own any cats, so I use the same emulsion to spray around my house to kill all the insects that wanna come in my house.

  2. I used to run more than I do now. Started doing a little more lately. I much prefer cycling. You get much more exhilaration when you catch some downhills but still get a good burn if you're doing it right. I need to be more balanced I think. Run some, cycle some, yoga some...yes yoga, it's great for post surgery disc herniation!

Nothing wrong with yoga.  I don't care about the meditation aspect, but it is fantastic for improving flexibility.

The only constant I have is weight training.  I will never stop doing that until I am physically unable to do so.  I also mix in some martial arts, mountain biking, golf, and now, running.  I would absolutely love to add in some rock climbing to that list.

  3. The time this evening for 3 miles was 25:56.  Almost a minute better than last night.  :)

I've been using New Balance for the past decade. The ones I have are really good for low arches. I used to use Asics, but would get blisters all the time on the inside of my foot. I work out but get into a habit of not running for weeks at a time. It can be difficult with traveling a lot and also having small kids. It isn't as easy as just strapping shoes on and going. I inherited high blood pressure, so I have to run or do some kind of cardio to keep it in check. Even with regular work outs, my blood pressure will climb if I'm not doing cardio. The only sneaker my brother can wear is New Balance.  He has been wearing the same style USA New Balance since the 80s.  New Balance is a great shoe, but not for me.  I have very narrow feet and very high arches.

  4. good time for someone that is starting back.  i ran for years. started in 75 and ran five days a week. running can get into your system and you just have to do it, no matter what. most days i did two miles, some day more.  i got up every morning by 6 a.m., and was out the door by 630.  like clock work, rain or shine.  no matter how cold or hot.  then in 98 i got plantar fascia in both feet.  it stopped me in my tracks for about one year.   the doctors stopped my running.  it took lots of work and pain to get over plantar fascia.  but with the correct running shoe and hard work i got back into running. but my times were slower.  so i did longer runs, 2 to 10 miles long runs.  then i mess up my knee on the job.  that stopped my running.  i tried but was never able to get back into it.  something was off.  then i jack up the other knee on the job.  after that the running stopped.  now it is treadmill, elliptical, and exercise bike in front of the tv.  get a good running shoe.  get a running shoe that fit the way you run.  use the shoe for running only.  i went to virginia runner in fredburgs virgina for shoes.  they put me on a treadmill and video me running to find the correct shoe.  it came down to two brands and i got to try them on their tract before buying.  the correct running shoe up my running game and empty my pocket.  new shoe every three months.

I hear you on the shoe.  I will only run in two shoes, Asics Nimbus or Mizuno Wave Runner.

  5. A couple of weeks ago I decided to start running again.  Less than a mile from my house we have a nice park with a slightly hilly 0.6 mile (GPS confirmed) running track on the grounds.  My first three mile run was 28:20.  The next day I ran 27:17.  That last run was on 5-7-14.  I did my third run this evening, and I ran it in 26:52.

I will be 40 in less than 3 months.  Tonight was just my third run in over a year and I have already busted the 27 minute mark.  I am feeling pretty good about that.  I am hoping that I will be able to break the 25 minute mark after a couple more runs.  To be fair, I am not going from a couch potato to running three miles.  I do go to the gym everyday M-F, but I never do cardio, so I feel this is still a pretty good accomplishment. :)

Anyone else run or thinking about getting into running?

  6. For me it is nothing to do with how fast they deploy, I have always been fascinated by Switchblades and automatic knives, the good ones out there just have a mystique to them that I just love

Deployment speed doesn't concern me either.  Several years back when I got my Combat Troodon DE dagger I thought it was really cool.  After a week or so it lost its lustre, and I haven't bought another automatic since then (minus the ProTech).

I am very hard on knives and do things with them that one probably shouldn't do.  I have done stuff with my XM-24 that would make a lot of people cringe.  That said, I want a knife that will withstand that kind of use and abuse.  The Combat Troodon doesn't fall in that category.  It has a very specific function, and that is stabbing (not cutting) soft tissue, which is probably gonna be the last thing I do with a knife.

I still have the knife, and I doubt I will get rid of it.  I carry it from time to time at work and show it off to people because it is cool.  However, when I get beyond the coolness of it, there is just so much more out there I would rather have and/or carry.

  7. It is funny this thread was created as I was thinking about getting a safety razor the other day and giving it a try. I currently use a Mach III and each blade lasts me about a month. Anyone recommend a site to get everything you need to start as well as what to buy?
  8. I think your wife made a great choice.  The Accords are fantastic cars.  I just sold mine a month or so ago to a fellow at work only because he has been bugging the crap out of me to sell it to him so he can give it to his son.  I put 250k miles on it without the first problem.  I was so impressed with my Accord that I bought a new Honda Crosstour to replace my Accord.  I was looking for something 4x4 with decent gas mileage (~26 mpg).

  9. I would find the Chris Reeve you want before getting the ADO. The thing about the CR knife is that it will hold its value considering they are no longer made and are still in demand. I have about 10 or so CR one-piece knives, and they are incredibly nice.
  10. Oh and if we're airing our dirty laundry, I've got no shame. I listened to about 6 ABBA songs last night before transitioning to Iron Maiden () which brought me around to the beach boys. The Beach Boys took me to the Everly Bros, and from their I was on a Marty Robbins kick. From there I got side tracked listening to Zapp and Roger, which transitioned to listening to a few EazyE tunes.

"His name EazyE, he's got ******* galore you may think you have lots of ******* but he's got much more..."

I feel bad sometimes because people look at me and instantly think "metal head" and while I like me some thrash, there's a lot more going on. Hell, I'll even listen to Narco Cultare. I don't like the message or what it's about, but I love the melodies. Won't spent a dime on an album though. I could listen to regular mariachi, but the beat is different.

I never got into Abba, but I love the Bee Gees.  Same thing with the Beach Boys.  I would say my favorite Beach Boy's song is Sloop John B.

Eazy E was always a little rough for my taste.  However, I can listen to some of the old school Grandmaster Flash, etc... stuff.  I still love The Message.

  11. Outside of country and rap, I have always had a fairly diverse taste in music.  I could go from Megadeth one day to Sinatra the next, or Pink Floyd to Rimsky-Korsakov.  One would never be able to guess what I would have on the radio from one day to the other, and since I spend roughly two hours a day in my car, I listen to a decent amount of music considering talk radio has become boring.

About a month or so ago I was surfing through XM looking for something new to listen to.  I found what I was looking for, and I love it.  I have been listening to this station a lot the last month. It is Kidz Bop Radio http://kidzbop.com/.  While I really like the songs by the original artists, I like to hear the kids singing them as well.  It is sort of cheery and lifts the spirit, which I think is something that all of us need at times.  The other nice thing is that you get to hear all the hits bundled together instead of getting a bunch fluff to take up time between each hit song.

Perhaps I am just weird. Let the flaying begin. :)
