Welcome

John I am out of town till Monday, but if this is still going next week I'll try to get with you.

I know Hardaway from Shelby county will be one..... ...and unfourtunately he would have a good argument. If you can do it for one park in Nashville, why not one in Memphis.....
-
Well giving up control of some state parks isn't good I agree. Sort of the same the same thing as changing 39-17-1314, other counties could ask for state parks in their counties to be exempted. Seems like the population centers of TN are going to screw up the whole state just like the population centers of the country try to ruin it for the rest of us...

Surely they aren't giving up any control over state parks. AFAIK most state parks are entirely within one county. I agree to some point, however people in Metro Nashville, Anderson County, Chatanooga and others that have been posted about that were already in the works to ban carry in their parks won't really notice any difference. I would rather come back later with local parks on their own bill and there not be any opt out clause.

It has already been recalled.... After thinking on it a bit and after getting over my intial reaction of being upset...I have to say since it seems so many local parks were going to opt out anyway....cutting local parks from the bill, to get state parks and other bills doesn't seem so bad. I also sort of hated making an exception in 39-17-1314 for local parks, I was worried it could open the door for some larger local goverments to start asking for exemptions on other areas. Maybe with carry in state parks legal and there are no incidents, the legislator will come back and make local park carry legal as well with no opt out part.....maybe.... http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/tennessee-politics-legislation/22583-urgent-possible-veto-parks-bill.html

Let's try to keep comments about debate to the issues and not individuals. Thanks....

I believe that is because of a recent AG Opion. AG opinon 09-106 says that a renewal applicant is not required to submit anything but the renweal application, $50 and certify they are still elligible for a HCP. However I'm still pretty sure new applicants will have to show proof of citizenship or lawful permanent residency.

URGENT - Park Carry in Anderson County to be Decided!
Fallguy replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
My point wasn't about whether anything has passed or not. But it has passed the legislator, just waiting on the governor. One point was you quoted a part of the bill that is no longer what was voted on. Also the point of the whole thread was about a local goverment attempting to ban carry within the parks under it's control. To me it looked like your point was that local goverments couldn't do that. My point is they very much can do that!! -

Ummm...re read your post and the bill. The section you posted only covers state parks, however it is from the orginal bill. That is not what passed. What passed was were Seneate amendments 2 (makes the bill) and 3 (removing WMAs) See dates of 5/18/09 & 5/26/09 on the bill's status page Under the Seneate amendment 2 see Section 2 which specifically allows local goverments to ban carry in local parks. Also Section 3 that amended the state's preemption law to allow local goverments to ban carry in parks. -
I went roughly at the same time and don't have mine either. I meant to call a couple of weeks ago and just haven't Going to NC this weekend and just hope I don't have to try and explain to a NC officer that permit is still valid with the reciept even though the expiration date was over a month ago.

WMA's were removed from HB0716 and are on their own now under this bill.

An open letter to the folks on this board....

6" x 14" is only required for park and school signs...AFAIK there is no measurment requirement for 39-17-1359 sign other than it "shall be of a size that is plainly visible to the average person entering" -

I believe someone has posted a pic of "legal sign" although I can't find it at the moment. The trouble is, the law doesn't give exact guidelines to follow, it just says the sign has to be "substantially similar" as to what is in the law. You can see a bit more in these two threads.. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/firearms-law-faq/21580-tca-39-17-1359-tennessee-prohibition-carry-notice.html http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/tennessee-politics-legislation/22338-language-substantially-similar.html -
I agree Very possible Yep

OS is correct. They must post a specific sign as listed in 39-17-1311©. It has minimal measurement requirements and contains exact wording that must be used. If they have more than one park under their control they can ban carry in some parks but not others. But either way it is the whole park. They can not allow carry in some parts and not in others within the same park. It's either all or nothing. ...and just a reminder, the state park carry goes into effect immediately, but local park carry doesn't go into effect until Sept 1.
