  1. Well didn't thourghly read every post since I last checked in on this thread....but it appears the summer study committee debate has already began.
  2. Welcome
  3. According to the state's website Handgun Carry Permit Application Requirements Georgia residents applying for a TN HCP do have to take the safety course and fill out the application. But do not have to be fingerprinted again and only have to pay a $50 renewal fee instead of $115
  4. Yep...short and sweet. Guess Sparky's is moving to the top of the list of places to go....
  5. Well there are definitely a few pro carry folks on the Jackson city council. Not sure if any remembers the deal at North Branch of the library or not. So not sure if the resolution will even pass and whichever way it goes I think most restaurant owners will do their own thing. I think this is mainly just one politician trying to make his view known and if can get it through the official position of the Jackson council.
  6. Welcome
  7. Welcome
  8. I saw the news segment....I think the resolution is to encourage local restaurants to ban carry, just like the governor is encouraging local governments to ban carry in some parks. I will be watching again at 6. +1 on knowing where to go or not go....
  9. See here The new 39-17-1305©(3)(A) exempts those with a HCP if they are not consuming and are within the confines of a restaurant. The new 39-17-1305©(3)( defines a restaurant for the purposes of 39-17-1305©(3)
  10. That is not entirely correct. It is true that there is no legal definition of a bar in TN. However the new law only allows carry with restaurants as defined in the new law. So if a place does not meet the requirements of that definition you still won't be able to carry in there.
  11. Also I wonder if the signs being provided by the Tennessee Hospitality Association are in compliance with 39-17-1359 and/or instructions on where/how to post them. I can see some places posting them up high, almost out of site, inside and think that is a legal posting.
  12. I agree Pat. One reform that really needs to be addressed at some point is limiting or eliminating any liability for business owners for the actions of HCP holders on their property. However if the above happens....I think some liability should attach to a property owner of they do still choose to post and something happens.
  13. No. The park carry bill amended 39-17-1314 to expressly give local governments the power, by resolution, to ban carry in parks under their control.
  14. Yes, except for maybe the zoo as redbarron06 pointed out. Also I'm not sure if it is Feb 1 or a date later in the month on National Park carry. I'm sure we'll know the exact date by then, if it doesn't get enacted sooner.
  15. Oh yes, there was that talk, best I remember. But to be honest in my neck of the woods I didn't hear that much. Also don't remember hearing anything about 39-17-1359 till I took my class a few months later. The "announce" thing is one reason I try to keep up with the laws so closely now. Some thought that Wal-Mart simply making an announcement on the speakers at 1:00am would cover it. Others thought that it would have to be a direct communication. It is one reason I didn't carry more when I first got my HCP, because how could you ever know if a placed had "announced" that carry was prohibited there. But anyway....back to your question.....
  16. Good deal. Of course not sure how or if park rangers have been made aware of the change in the law.
  17. When the state first starting issue HCP's a business didn't have to "post" they could simply "announce" that carry was prohibited in their business. AFAIK what "announce" meant was never legally defined. However after that was removed, I don't recall a rash of people asking business owner's, but I was not part of any statewide group where I could have read what others were doing. A point to make though, the removal of the "announce" from 39-17-1359 or the fact that 39-17-1359 even existed when HCPs started being issued was not in the news daily for months, like restaurant carry has been.
  18. I'm not familiar with either place, but if they are state parks or recreational areas, Yes.
  19. Welcome and thanks for your support.
