No I don't have a problem with a LEO disarming someone if he truly feels it is needed for his protection. I guess it was your "you may be disarmed and you may not like the way it goes down. Don't be stupid" line that made me think you meant more than simple, "Can you put that up (or can I hold on to that) while we talk?" from the officer. LOL...Dave you and I agree more than we disagree I think....we just have to go the long way to get there sometimes.

So let me get this straight. In your opinion the rights (any rights or just the the right to self-defense) of Law Enforcement trump the rights and other citizen? Even the rights of a property owner on their own property? I do not argue the point that the officer has a right to be secure and safe. Also in TN an officer can legally disarm a permit holder if he deems it necessary (not sure how that applies in a home where no permit is needed) But why would you think an officer would feel the need to slam a homeowner to the ground and hold him at gun point for simply answering his own door armed....and if an officer did do that, how could you defend it? In the above I am assuming that property owner is simply answering the door without his hand anywhere near his handgun and is answering questions and cooperating.

I wouldn't have taken it off. What do you do with your pistol while playing the xbox/watching tv/or whatever? Nothing wrong with carry in your home.

I actually meant that I think "assited" open knives are legal to carry. Where as "automatic" open knives are not.

It is of course you chose as to carry or not at chuch. But I'm not really sure what liabilty the church would have just because you are on staff. It's sort of like the bill in the legislature that would allow teachers and full time staff to carry at schools...there is no liabilty for the school. Now if the church designated you to carry and or the school did to the teachers, that could be different. Of course you know your situation better than any of us.

I think some are missing the OP's point (or at least the point as I see it). The church is apparenlty not completely anti otherwise why have a "wild game dinner" that would mean the game was shot most likely with a firearm, they were giving away firearms as prizes....but why then, post against carry? I don't think any letter he may write was intended to correct them on the language of their sign, but to ask why a sign at all? Not sure where chruch sponsored carry for protection came from......

There is. 39-17-1302((8) it also inculdes Military personnel I think assisted opening knives are legal.

Just a note though, a "butterfly" knife is not considered a switch blade. I have a link to the court case for that, but I am not at home right now.

It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this section that the person must prove by a preponderance of the evidence that: The person's conduct was relative to dealing with the weapon solely as a curio, ornament or keepsake , and if the weapon is a type described in subdivisions (a)(1)-(5), that it was in a nonfunctioning condition and could not readily be made operable;

Yep...one reason I went ahead with my 100+mile ride, even after the rough start...lol One good thing is, I talked with a friend of mine that is friends with an officer in Milan. Told him I haven't had a ticket in 15-20 years. He said I should come to court and it would probably be dismissed...I hope so at least.

Well I thought about posting this yesterday, but decided this thread had been quite but since it has become active again. I decided to get out and ride the motorcycle yesterday afternoon. Didn't really have any route in mind...so I just turned south to start. Well I hadn't even gone a mile and a half and I guess I was thinking too much about what route I wanted to take instead of how fast I was going. Met a LEO saw go into the center lane...so I knew what was next. Pulled over just a bit up the road. Got off the bike. Asked me where I was headed, told him just out. Just normal conversation. He asked me for me license and insurance. Now..I was armed, had my Glock 32 in my right front pocket. If you were a sheep, you'd probably never know, but it wasn't invisible either. I moved a few months ago and I did the change of address online but my actual license still has my old address on it, so I gave him the printout from the state's website with the new address on it. On that printout it says to the officer he may want to check the DL to make sure the information is correct. So he takes my DL and Insurance paper to the car. Now we have already interacted a 2-3 minutes at this point. I thought for a quick second as whether to tell him I was armed or not, but I didn't see any reason to, even though I knew he was about to run my DL and I had just posted that even though this was my choice I hadn't had to make the choice lately, so I figured I would stick by my position on the mater. Well after a few more minutes he comes back, gives me my DL and insurance card back. Tells me he has cited me for speeding, gives me the info on how to take care of it or the court date. I sign it and we both go on our way. Now...let me give a little bit more info (I know too long already) I was riding a motorcycle, I had a non-DOT beanie helmet on, I have a corrective lenses restriction on my DL but I was not wearing my prescription glasses, I had to have paper backup of change of address for my DL. All possible "red flags" And after running my license.........nothing adverse happened. He didn't get out the patrol car and order me to the ground at gun point, He didn't stick his gun in my ear, He didn't asked if I was armed...so naturally he didn't ask why I didn't inform him. Now...also just to be clear...in Milan, TN you are going to get a ticket if you are stopped...so there was no chance of showing my HCP and hoping that would get me any favors. Now whether to inform or not is still a choice I think each person has to make for themselves based on the situation at hand, but....if you don't, it's not a guarantee that bad things will happen despite what some may think.

This bill doesn't do anything to fix how easy it is to get an Order of Protection. It simply establishes a procedure for surrendering your firearms once someone is served with an Order of Protection. Something that you are already supposed to do. I believe if I had to, I'd be turning them into my local gun dealer instead of the police though.
