  1. Also just let me say....it has been years since I have had any interactions with a LEO on a traffic stop or simillar incident. And of the few times I have, I was not armed.....so I admit I am speaking more of feelings and views on the matter as opposed to actual situations I've been in or choices I have had to make.
  2. I thought LEOs weren't out to just arrest everybody for anything, like because you might forget something by being nervious etc... I agree that "what ifs" where taken into consideration as far as "carry" opposed to "concealed carry" as well as "must present upon demand" opposed to "must notify" I also agree that it is better to inform than let then be surprised you are armed. If I was asked to step out of the car, etc... I would inform them before it was seen or found by a pat down. But I still feel that handing over your HCP with your DL or bringing up right off the bat has to potential to create an issue where there might not otherwise be one. But I have no problems with anyone if that is what they choose to do. But I feel they shouldn't have a problem with those that choose not to. As far as officer "preference" I'm sure there are some officers that would prefer that no one except them carry...that way they would know everone with a gun had it illegaly. So an officer's preference is not always my top concern as long as I am within the law. I guess my biggest thing is that simply volunteering the information somehow implies that being armed is something dirty or to be ashamed of or that you need some sort of defense for being legally armed. Sort of why I don't like HCP badges...not because I think you are imperonating a LEO, but because it's like simply having the HCP is somehow not good enough to be able to carry...that you need some other type of authority. I just don't feel like I should have to inform him I am doing something legal. I don't hunt or fish so I don't know, but for those that do hunt and fish....if the game warden comes upon you, do just show him your hunting or fishing license as soon as he walks up or do you wait to see if he asks to see it?
  3. Yep, just like statistics.....
  4. I bet you less than 10% of that group carry on "regular" basis.

  7. It is fairly simple...if they have the posting in the parking lot are legal per 39-17-1359, then you are breaking the law even if you leave your weapon in the car. If they do not have a legal posting, then you are only breaking their policy the results of which you would know better than us. What you choose to do is up to you. I am not directly familiar with any cases dealing with a handgun left in a vehicle in a posted parking lot, but not saying there aren't any.
  8. So wouldn't the easiest and best thing be simply for the LEO lobby to introduce a bill that requires immediate notification? If it was the law I would follow it and in all honesty not really bitch about it that much. But LEOs already have enough authority over you without giving them any they don't have. I really don't see it as being cute if you choose not to inform at least no more cute than saying no if they knock on your front door and want to come in and just look around no reason.
  9. But the fact that some do...is another reason why those that are legally permitted choose to be upfront.
  10. True, they may ask once they know you have a HCP and that is enough reason for some to volunteer it up front. But it being their business you are armed is your opinion, not mine or the law. The law says if they demand to see your permit, you must present it to them. However that is not the same that is not the same thing as it being their business you are armed only that you are legally permitted if you are armed.
  11. That is fair enough, but Some, including me, would rather not bring up something that is non-issue as related to a traffic stop. (Sometimes a LEO just looks at your DL and then decides after some conversation to give you a warning and never runs your DL.) But it is like OC v CC doesn't really matter to me, there are valid points both ways, so each person must simply decided what they feel is the best for them and/or the current situation.
  12. True, but just because you have a HCP doesn't mean you are armed. I know most of us are, but there are many that HCPs that do not carry on regular basis. As far as that goes....just because one doesn't have a HCP doesn't mean they aren't armed....

  14. Actually on 1, an employer can post their entire property (including the parking lot) with a 39-17-1359 sign and make it illegal to even have your weapon locked up in your own car. The bill GhostHuneter posted would eliminate that. I don't think the bill could help much with 2 A bill that might help the OP more is HB0798/SB1261 As introduced, authorizes full-time faculty and staff at public schools, colleges, and universities in Tennessee to carry handguns if not otherwise prohibited by law.
  15. What everyone is saying is correct...but to answer your question, No, the law has not changed. It has always been like that in TN. Also you do not have to carry concealed in TN. It is a Handgun Carry Permit and allows you to carry Open or Concealed.
