  1. Or carry a loaded handgun in her auto without a permit(must be visible).
  2. Please go back and read every post. I did not invent 9-11. I did not approve of the state security apparatus called Homeland Security. I do not condone militarization of our local police and takeover by the Feds. I do not approve of the police state, my personal political leanings are between liberterian and anarchist. I didn't invent the patriot act nor do I approve it. It was the first step toward a national police, which is coming by the back door. The patriot act that your congressman and senators voted for has now created a de facto national ID card by mandating uniform regulations for driver's licenses in all 50 states. I didn't do this or ask for it or condone or approve it, it was the congressmen that you elected. I have been self employed for the past 30 years because I don't play well with others and have a problem with rules that other people make. A great deal of my time and effort has been spent to "learn the system". If you don't know the system you can't beat it. I have bent and broken enough laws, codes, and regulations to fill a small city's jail. But you can't beat a system that you don't understand. If you go out on the street and act stupid, expect to go to jail. The kid in this tale might be able to make something of it if he had ten or fifteen thousand to give to a lawyer, in cash, up front. Justice is not cheap. Again, this is not my system, it is the one that has been in place for long, long timel. I am not a jack booted gestapo for observing how the system works. Please don't put words in my mouth or impute things that I did not say or feel. I am past being a patriot. I look out for myself and my family, the hell with the rest of you idiots that keep electing idiots that pass all these idiot laws that eat away at our freedoms.
  3. An officer is responding to a call, "man with a gun". He arrives at the scene, he is under no obligation to observe "your rights". His obligation is to protect himself and the public from harm, which is presumptive by that type of call. He is bound by protocols that his department has promulgated, not your "rights". In most jurisdictions, the LEOs would come in with drawn guns at low ready. If you tried this stunt in ANY state, if your refused to identify yourself to an officer answering a call for man with a gun, you are going down on the ground and get handcuffed. I have never maintained "right" and "wrong". I am telling what will happen in such an encounter. If this riles you , start writing letters to your legislature and judges. Don't beat your chest about your "rights". You don't have any until the officer determines that there is no threat, or the threat has ended. Please observe that I have not offered any personal views on the case reported. I have spend a lot of money on publications, memberships and lawyers to preserve gun rights. I also understand how that plays out on the street and in courts, and how acting stupid in public will get you a free trip to jail. I was a LEO for many years and never lost a case in court to a latrine lawyer. I am carrying the message, if you don't like the message, go after the folks who write the messages. An ad hominum attack on me does not correct the situation. If you don't like the way things are, get involved in the system. But post-1911, our liberties vanish more and more every day. Not from me, from the folks you elected to office. ANY STATE
  4. Again, spare me the rhetoric or your take on "liberty and freedom", if you pull that stunt here in TN, that is refuse to identify yourself in such a situation, you are going down and hard. Right and wrong, is like truth and beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder. Courts are always sympathetic to law enforcement and will always give them the benefit of doubt when confronted by such a case. I have not commented on the actions of the LEOs beyond the take down, and will not do so until I see some harder facts than presented on an internet forum. If what was reported was in fact true, a determined plaintiff could possibly get some redress if they had some big bucks to give to an attorney. Whether right or wrong, these days, officer safety trumps any soap box oration.
  5. I hear a lot of chest thumping here. If a LEO responds to a complaint of a person with a gun, there is already a flag raised. If the person carrying the gun in a place where you do not commonly carry guns openly, what ever the state law, refuses to provide ID, you get a second flag. At that point, a LEO schooled in officer safety would have cuffed the individual, taken them outside, relieved them of the gun, patted them down and stuffed them in the back of a scout car. How many lives do you have to give to your city or county? Exactly NONE! Again, I would like to see one of you latrine lawyers pull this stunt in a large city in TN. No one gives you green stamps for being a soldier. In fact, you are expected to observe a higher standard. All the kid had to do was give some ID.
  6. When you are in a public place and confronted by a LEO, you have no right to or expectation of "privacy". Refusing to provide ID raises the suspicion of any cop. In some states it is required,in some it is not, but refusal makes a reasonable person question the reason for refusal. Who is this this guy and what is he trying to hide? What is he wanted for? A little common sense and co-operation would have defused this situation. If you think the North Carolina Deputies over reacted, I dare you to pull the same stunt in Nashville/Memphis/knoxville. I guarantee you will get a gun pointed at you and get to lie on the ground or get tasered and get to lie on the ground.
  7. You made a couple of serious mistakes that amount to "contempt of cop" and guarantee you a free ride to jail. Refusal to provide ID and "am I being detained" will raise the hackles of any cop and make it difficult to get any sympathy. You could have easily talked your way out of the situation by being a little more co-operative.
  8. I got off the interstate for gas and saw the building for the Great Outdoors Store. I parked in the lot and opened the front door. There was a large sign "check all guns at front". I left. Is the store any good?
  9. Good heavens, Usselton once told me to my face, that his slides and frames were custom made just for him and no others, and that he owned "the moulds" the they were made in. He also told me that the Glock 23 that he carried while a deputy sheriff for Sumner Co. had over 40,000 rounds (certified) through it and never had a part replaced. Usselton, you should start writing articles for gun magazines. I wish you well in your new business venture in Williamson County, but watch your mouth, sometimes you are your own worst enemy.
  10. The psyche test is a requirement for being issued a concealed carry permit in Costa Rica. Judging from some of the folks carrying with permits there, it is not too rigorous a test.

    1911 .45

I think that Armscor(Rock Island Armory and others) makes a very good gun and very good for the money. The STI Spartan has a frame and slide from Armscor and STI small parts all assembled in the Phillipines. At around $600, it is an outstanding value for someone who wants a tight and reliable 1911, albeit with adjustable sights. The adjustable sights are a turn-off for some folks who carry every day. I carry a different brand 1911 on a daily basis that has adjustable sights and I am comfortable with it. However, STI guns made in this country(ALL but the Spartan) have 100% USA made components whether they be slides, barrels, frames or springs.
  12. I would protect it with some sort of foam wrapping to prevent damage to rounds from constant vibration. Temp and moisture should not be a problem.
  13. Two to the chest and one to the head transcends any internet chatter about caliber, construction, bullet weight or made up statistics.
  14. McAlisters' management should be jailed until they start serving deli food or quit calling themselves a deli. Real deli's serve corned beef, pastrami, smoked fish, bagels, and matzoh balls. Try ordering those items in mcalisters. They don't even have a deep fryer to fry up sweet potatoe french fries.
  15. I am trying to figure out what liability a business has if all applicable laws are being followed? The handwringing soccer moms and some restaurant owners are concerned about the "liability" that they will have if someone legally carries on their premises. Someone please explain what liability they are exposed to if they do not post or do post. If a legal carrier leaves their piece at home and enters a posted premise and is injured because they could not defend themselves, a good lawyer could convince a jury that the cause of the injury was posting of 'no firearms' and that the owner who posted the premises is responsible for remedy.
  16. Thirty or forty years ago, had utilities had problems with problem customers, they would have armed the clerks(male in those days), or hired muscle and been done with it. After one trouble maker got shot or an asswhipping, word would quickly spread, solving the problem. Our culture has become so femminized that we feel good about posting a sign and believing that bad guys will run away when they see the sign. Current day clerks (mostly female, mostly minority) and their supervisors (mostly female, mostly minority) actually think that the sign will make a difference.
  17. It's really not a lawyer question. The Tennessee legislature reduced it to a simple written requirement. Until the recent publicity about the so called "guns in bars" media event, the only compliant sign I ever encountered was at Jared Jewelers in Rivergate. There are dozens of establishments that post non-conmpliant signs to make their sheeple customers feel warm and fuzzy. Most utility companies and cable companies display non conpliant signs. Seems to me that these companies are paranoid about disgruntled customers going "postal".
  18. New point about traversing the LBL on existing hard surface roads: Does the rule about "federally funded through-ways" apply here. That is the rule applied to legalize carry in a vehicle on the Natchez Trace. In LBL, since the property is federally owned, all the through-ways are federally funded. Or is that too hasty an application of common sense to fed regulations?
  19. All the state taxing authorities started licking their chops at the thought of collecting sales tax from all purchases delivered to that particular state. The internet was going to bring them billions in newfound manna. The problem is that so many cities, towns and special taxing jurisdictions have their own sales tax on top of the state tax. There is no way that anyone can look at a particular street address and figure what the sales tax is on an item going to that address. The solution was a simple one, every state adopt a uniform sales tax percentage. That was not so simple, the uniform amount would be lower, in some cases, much lower that a state was now getting. So high tax states like TN, said "no way Jose". Back to squabbling. The longer they squabble and duck and weave to tax every single transaction, there will never be a uniform amount and there will not be an efficient means of collecting use tax from out of state sales. So, the next time you order a new Les Baer, email me so I can send you the proper forms for the use tax.
  20. Did I say Tennessee? Sorry, I meant California! Speaking of taxes, Arkansas has a tax called " I don't pay enough tax". Anyone who feels guilty about not paying enough taxes can request the form, fill it out in any amount and attach a check. No one working in the revenue department can remember anyone filing one. Gotta love them arkies:p Speaking of TN, they have a compact with all contiguous states to report big ticket items purchased by anyone in TN. I don't know know how well it works. If you go to NC and buy a house full of furniture, TN may get wind of it and want it's 9.25%. A large purchase of carpet in Dalton, GA will often get reported. I have gotten to the point where I buy small items like toothpaste and lightbulbs off the internet at a 9.25% discount.
  21. Is everyone paying their Tennessee use tax? Shame on you!! The use tax is levied upon all items received by you from out of state and upon which no sales tax was paid. The tax is collected when all honest citizens fill out a use tax return at the end of the year and declare the value of all items subject to the tax. Most of those mail order and internet order items from out of state cannot have sales tax levied because most out of state merchants are not registered with the state. However, you must declare the value of all these items and send the state a check. When I last checked with the TN tax authorities, compliance with use tax was "awful". I can't imagine why red blooded honest Tennesseans would not comply with the spirit and letter of this law. Order bullets and primers from Graf? you pay use tax Order supplies from Dillon? you pay use tax Order ammo from Black hills? you pay use tax etc, etc, etc. ARE YOU PAYING YOUR FAIR SHARE? If you need the proper forms, email me and I will send them to you:D
  22. You contradict yourself: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/294428-post7.html Why is it OK for a theater but not a restaurant?
  23. Please go back and read the initial opening post. You seem to have missed something. I would hate to think that you are that callous or indifferent to the "rights" of the owner of an establishment that has to please everyone. One way to attempt this balance is to post a noncompliant sign to make the handwringers feel warm and fuzzy. Please do not appeal to facts or logic in this subject, neither apply to the thinking processes of anti gunners or hysterial media idiots. Please remember that your ability to carry a firearm is not a right, it is a priviledige granted by the TN legislature. The more you scare the sheeple and soccermoms, the more likely your "right" will be rescinded.
  24. Here is the email that I sent to all the members: From: jwsoutherland@comcast.net To: Metro Council Sent: Friday, June 05, 2009 8:06 AM Subject: banning 'guns in bars' via beer board regulations Find something useful to do. You could start by: Making high school seniors be able to read or write Figuring out how to keep our middle class from moving to Wilson Co. Locate and patch potholes. Those of you who are concerned about the actions of the legislature in overturning the gov's. veto should get a life and move on. You lost, get over it, and find something productive to besides posture on this issue or cramming more white elephants(convention center) down the throats of taxpayers. Review my list above again. Park Toler and Duane dominy emailed back and thanked me for my support. charlie tygard responded: Let's see - you want to influence people to vote your position and you mock and deride the people who vote? My advise - start your discourse over and rationally explain your position You do more harm to your position than you can ever imagine Charlie Tygard tygard is still pissed at me. I demanded that he and the other members personally guarantee the debt of the future convention center is it was "such a sure fire thing"
  25. Interesting question because I spent most of my life in the restaurant business in a state that forbids CCW in establishments that serve alcohol but allows open carry in the same establishments. It was always a challenge on the rare occasion when someone entered with OC. I usually talked them out of the gun or into covering it up. Should that fail, I would ask them to not reurn and scare my soccermom customers. I have had customers walk out because "someone had a gun". I have had customers express discomfort over seeing police officers in plain clothes carrying openly. "How do I know they are real cops" Not a rational ideation on their part, but there are fewer and fewer rational people with common sense any more. Open carry is a very bad idea. It scares the sheeple/soccermoms and handwringers. Those people do not like you(us), they are morally superior and smarter. The more you get in their face, the more they will support someone who panders to their bad judgement(how did obama win an election, pandering). It takes away the tactical advantage of having the means to defend yourself. I know a couple of teenagers who would bash in your head with a brick, take your gun, wallet and gold teeth, all in about 3 seconds. Simply because you marked yourself as a worthwhile victim by displaying an asset that they could readily sell on the street. How many people have been murdered for pocket change? Open carry is a very bad idea and will not win you any friends whether they be supporters or detractors of our carry privilidges(your right to carry is not a right, it is a privilidge bestowed upon you by the state, it can be taken away). You certainlly will not be welcome in a restaurant or even WalMart. Smile, we won.
