  10. A backstory. I found this knife at an estate sale for what I thought was an excellent price for a new in box Spyderco. I snapped it immediately off a table of a knife collection amongst about a dozen other searchers. When I got home, I started to research this knife. I quickly noticed something was off, so I emailed photos and the backstory to the knife designer, Peter Carey. To my surprise, he responded within hours. Not to my surprise, he confirmed it's a fake. The Rubicon is one of my knife designs I licensed to Spyderco, but what you have there is a Chinese copy of the Spyderco Rubicon. You could find them on EBay at one time, maybe you still can. So yes it is a fake! Best, Pete Now, to the knife itself, it's a beast of a knife. Had I never researched it, I probably would have always assumed it was a "real" Spyderco. It seems like it has G-10 handles on it, a really strong linear lock, and a really beefy blade. The blade is stamped "CRREY" when it should be stamped "CAREY", which in the heat of the moment paired with the fact it's impossible to know every knife designer ever, was easily overlooked. It is also stamped "CPM S30V" which would be a premium steel, I just have no way of verifying whether that's the actual steel used or not. I will say, it's a beast of a knife with strong lockup, a blade with a decent edge (may have the potential to be sharpened even greater), a cool design overall, and a neat overall look. I figure even being a fake, it's worth $35.00. If nothing else, it's an awesome conversation piece and example as to just how "close" counterfeits knives can be. It could be a good EDC knife that you don't worry about loosing. I've personally wondered if it's made at the Spyderco factory in China but sold by the Chinese at a cheaper price that nets them more money than Spyderco pays. Open to best offer and trades.
