Mosin Nagant Question

Recommended Posts

My brother traded for a M44 today. This evening he took the bolt apart and now can't get it back together and back in the rifle. I sent him a link to the complete bolt disassembly and reassembly.

So here is the question. Do you have to have the "tool" that measures the firing pin protrusion to be safe, or can you just make sure the fp is flush on the rear knob?

Where can I get him a MN tool?

Thanks,

Mike

The tool usually comes with the Mosin. I have heard that you need the tool, or at least the measurement of the tool. I can try to put some calipers on mine in the next day or so if you're not in too big of a hurry to shoot it, or you are welcome to zip up I-24 and borrow my Mosin firing pin measurement deal. :-)

Thanks for the offer Fenris. He doesn't have a set of calipers so the measurement wouldn't help him. And he is in Crossville, so can't just zip up there. If I can't come up with one, he'll just have to order one.

Thanks,

Mike

Well I ain't gonna tell you to go do it, but I had my mosin for years before I got the tool. I put it back together flush, and never had an issue.

If in doubt, less is more! It would be better to have a weak strike than a pierced primer.

Mike. PM me but I am pretty sure I have one of those that came with my M38. If I can find it I can either loan it to you or make you a copy sometime this next week.
