Prescription glasses

Recommended Posts

I did do a search, and saw there were posts on this already, but I didn't see any recent ones.

I'd like to get a pair of prescription glasses specifically for shooting.  This way, the frame and lenses would be rated "safe" for shooting.

I'd like them to be photochomatic and not polarized.

I've seen a couple of sites:

I'm sure there are hundreds of others.

I wanted to see what others have had good luck with.

Thanks!

Prescription glasses for shooting can be challenging. I wear progressives as my daily pair, and they don’t help much for shooting. Where I end up looking through the lens when shooting is at the long distance focus which makes it impossible to focus well on the front sight.

For shooting at the range, I ended up getting a pair of single vision safety glasses with a modified prescription for the right eye that lets me focus on the front sight. I ordered these through Zenni. They have very reasonable prices on basic Z87.1 frames and lenses.

My need was for range glasses where I can manage without having the full progressives. I don’t hunt, but if I did, I would just need to do my best with the progressives since that would require being able to see close, mid, and far at any given time.

SportRX is another I have used in the past for cycling goggles. https://www.sportrx.com/

My solution was single focal sunglasses in polycarbonate, non polarized

Had an pair of Oakley frames from a prior 'script.

Became a progressive user when I turned 50; do not have an issue with front sight or red dot focus comparing both pair of glasses.

I definitely struggle with my progressive ‘script, especially with pistols. Not quite as bad with rifles, but the modified single vision is much better.

Same with me... I use a single vision prescription.  Talk to the optometrist about what ya want ta do.

Another vote here for Zenni. They're about the cheapest online and I think they're punching slightly above their weight class on quality for the price.

My favorite thing about them is they let you enter your own Rx. This lets me play around with the script, like adjusting the PD based for readers vs distance or cutting the +add amount in half from readers to make computer glasses. My sphere is a negative number and once I accidentally added the +add for readers wrong and they still replaced them w/in 30 days. You can't beat that. In fact, I kind of felt guilty taking them up on that offer since it was my fault.

For shooting I tried using my computer glasses because the script is for focusing at arm's length, so that sounded perfect for seeing the front sight. However, it didn't work past 10 yds because the target was too blurry for me to see. So, I just use my normal distance glasses for shooting, driving, the movie theater, etc.
