Thanks to Eric (TGO member) for giving me a heads up on a .308 bolt gun that was for sale.

I wanted to get something with a heavy barrel to set up for a MOA/Sub-MOA rifle.

I dont have pics of the rifle yet. I will post some after work today.

Remington 700 PSS (Police Sniper Special) built 8/1989

came from the factory with:

Parkerized finish

24-inch Barrel

Super nice trigger

H.S. Precision kevlar and fiberglass-reinforced synthetic stock with a full-length, aluminum bedding block.

It had on it:

Leupold 16x scope, Redfield base, Rings ??

I had a harris bipod in the truck for my M1A so I put it on the 700 at the range.

I bought this Sat and was able to fire 10 shots with Federal 168 Match ammo.

Last 5-shot group @ 100-yards after a few clicks on the scope. .532 group

Crappy cell phone pic

Nice, just play with different grains of ammo to see what the gun likes. with the right ammo you'd see one hole :)

I did have some Winchester 147 and they did not "work" as well. I may look into some 175 Match ammo. I am not sure what the twist is on this barrel since most PSS or 700P's have 26 inch barrels. For now I will stick witht eh 168 MatchKing until I can get some handloads.

Hurry up with the pics! :)

The scope is a 1977 16x AO Benchrest scope per the Leupold Tech Line.

I still have not found out why the crown looks different than other PSS's that I have seen....

It is/was raining outside so inside pics is all I could grab:

now that you have measured the group from outside to outside.. take that measurement and subtract .308 from it and it will give you the real group size.. second trip out (first group pic) is very nice shooting.

Oh.. by the way.. see if you can do the same at 200 yards.. then come out and shoot with us at ORSA..

We have practice shoots on mondays.. about 430 pm.. You can come shoot a couple as a guest.. then they will want you to join.. but for the price.. it is the best bang for the buck.. where else can you go and shoot at a 1000yards on any day of the week when there isn't anything going on that is scheduled.

Nice shooting.

I have an R5 Mil Spec I need to get out and practice more with.

Do you mean a Remington 700 5R? I have one of those in .308 as well with a Leupold MarkIII.. I have had it almost 3 years and havent put a round thru it yet. I just got the scope a couple months ago though so I have alittle excuse.

I should be able to make it out saturday. Nothing on the schedule yet. I'll see if I can't drag some more people along too.

Nice meeting you at the range Nathan... get the 5R out more often. It is a really nice rifle.

Yeah that's the one.

I Have been getting it out every weekend, or every other weekend depending on what I have going on. I need to get a lot more trigger time in on that one. I think I'm going back to the HS stock next time though to see if that was what was throwing it off, or if it was just me that was throwing it off last time.

It was nice meeting you too mike.

You missed a good time up at G&L last night though. Daniel busted out the MP5 and we got to burn up some 9mm.

Hey Pin, do you reload? I'm not sure about your .308, but my Remmy 700 .308 (1 - 12 twist) loves 150gr Hornady Interlock's over 40.5gr of 2230. Consistent 3 shot groups at .2", and 5 shot groups at .25" at 100 yards. I had posted some of the pics on one of Eric's threads a while back.
