RA45B vs. RA45TP

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to decide which ammo to use for personal defense. I've got a case of Winchester RA45TP 230 gn. Talon plus P rounds, and a case of the RA45B 230 gn. Bonded. I believe the projectile is similar in construction, with the exception of flux in the bonded. Which round would be better for personal defense in a home?

I would guess (note: guess) that the unbonded +p bullets would be more likely to separate and penetrate fewer walls... but being +p they might be more deafening or have more blinding flash (which could be either a blessing or a curse, or a non-issue). Either one would be plenty effective.

Drywall penetration/overpenetration are my main concerns with either bullet. That being said, I also keep my sidearm with me when deer hunt in an area with a substantial wild boar population, so I have to carry ammo that will make it through the shoulder blade of good size boar in case of an encounter.

FBI(fwiw) tests prove that over-penetration is an over-agonized issue with almost no real world bearing....that being said if your really worried you should probably use a shotshell round, but they have been proven to be horribly unreliable on humans for killing purposes.
