Motorcycle mechanics chime in

$563!! :P I knew there was a reason why I do my own wrenching.

I had the Haynes manual for my GS500... between it and gstwins.com, that's all the info you'll need.

Yep, been doing quite a bit of reading on the GStwins site this week.

I would like to make a project of stiffening up my front forks as the model is notorious for sloppy shocks/dampeners.

Other than that, I'm very happy with it's performance (60 mpg when I stay off the throttle) and when its not puking fuel.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll either start to learn and not be afraid to tear into this thing in the future or check out some of the smaller shops that might be a little more economical looking for a long term relationship with a bike owner.

So who's gonna buy my pistol so I can get this thing out next week?

Oh yeah, one other tidbit....he did inform me that I got the discounted labor rate! !

I should go to school as a motorcycle mechanic I reckon.

There are two drain tubes that come down in the same spot, one is the tank overflow, this is the carb one. This one allowed the entire tank of gas to drain and in sub freezing weather, not much chance of expansion there. I will be seeking to increase my mechanical prowess with this but I am NOT a mechanic. Changing oil, lubing the chain, I even swapped out the upper aero of the fairing with no difficulty. Getting into the guts of a dual carb system though when you have no training could keep it on the sidelines and cost me close to this in mistakes.

So, just because I never looked, which gas companies still market ethanol free fuel?

As far as I know, there are very few places to get elthanol-free fuel. As far as I know, Wal-Mart/Sams Club is one of the few. That's where I get a majority of mine.

There is also a station (Not sure of the name) at the corner of Spence Lane and Elm Hill Pike that sells elthanol-free fuel.

$563? Wow! I had my carb re-jetted and the bike dynoed at TNT Performance Dyno (Nashville) for less than that. I don't recall the number of dyno runs, but IIRC, it was somewhere around 10.

Either way, I hope the issue is resolved fairly soon. A TGO ride will be along before we know it.
