Anyone ever seen this? Largest Street Gang

TMMT is my hero. The police need to police themselves. How many of you watched the whole video? Did you get to the part where ex-cops were harrassed and threatened with deadly force for trying to file a compliant on officers? The code of silence must be broken. It is truely sad when civilians are afraid to call the POLICE for help.

How many of you LEs who are crying cop basher do not know of a fellow officer who routinely crosses the line and is not disciplined?

I'm very pro police. Even have family that are LEO's and I was briefly. That being said I do think some of the issue is arising from the militaristic mentality of the newest generation. We get this because it is easier and more cost effective to take military trained folks (returning from war) and use military training to get more feet on the pavement more quickly and with greater ease. IMO this is great for SWAT, large scale operations, intel ect. The problem arises in low key, low profile encounters. Some tend to fall back on their military style as opposed to the traditional police style of public servant.

I don't see it as some tinfoil takeover, just a residual effect of the war and other money factors. I do think we would be better served without this mentality on American soil, but it is what it is.

The only ones who rush to defend these cops are either blind to the facts, are part of the problem or just really have little clue as to what they are actually supporting.

I don’t see anyone rushing to defend bad cops. We all know they exist; especially those of us that are, or have been a Police officer.

You refer to your job and the wealth of information you have. I would be curious to know exactly what that job is. You started on this forum leading is to believe you are a cop. I now doubt that. You have called yourself an “Investigatorâ€; for who?

I’m curious as to your agenda and what you ideas are on fixing the problem.

How is lumping all cops into one group any different that lumping all people with guns into one group?

Giving opinions on specific Police incidents is one thing. Making general statements about cops is as ignorant as lumping permit holders and criminals together or making general statements about a minority.

I would love to hold an adult discussion about the facts, be it here or in another forum we could all participate in.

If you want to go on a cop bashing tirade there are forums for that. I’ve seen links posted here. Maybe you can go there and have lengthy discussions with your cop hating buddies and feel better about yourself.

Jesus christ this is ridiculous, someone posts a video and all of a sudden we are all "cop bashing." It's the same :D here with the racial issue. Someone brings a video or story to the table to discuss and the PC police get their panties in a wad and all of a sudden we are racist. Some of you people need to grow some balls, or just grow up.

It wasn’t posted as a question it was posted to elicit a response; it has done that.

Now you want to whine a cry about the responses it got? Grow up.

Don’t take aim at a group of good people like cops and expect us all to get on the bandwagon; it won’t happen.

I served in both the military and as a cop. I’m as proud of one as I am the other. I wouldn’t stand around silently while you rip on the military and I won’t do it while you rip on cops.

This thread is going exactly the way it was intended. Take one side or the other, but don’t stand on the sidelines and cry.

How about your former brethren whom you claimed were "out to get" you when you were arrested for carrying illegally in Illinois? Are you just as proud of them? I'm not taking a side--just curious...and maybe :D a little, as well...

He was a criminal. He was later arrested and fired. Does that make all cops bad? I don’t blame cops in general for what happened to me; I blame that cop.

EDIT:

Oh yea, I almost forget. I was guilty as hell. :D

I thought I understood the 2nd amendment…. I was wrong. And by making that decision to break the law I gave him the opportunity to screw me over. I knew I was facing a bad cop and still couldn’t keep my mouth shut.

I think that's the point, Dave. I don't know of anyone on this board who thinks that ALL cops are bad. I think some folks are just concerned that there seems to be a disproportionately high number of LEOs who do bad things and are never really held accountable. I'm glad to hear that your guy was, but many, many more are not.

When questions ARE raised and folks like you and Muttling immediately jump on those who raise them, it just further reinforces the notion that the LE community will do anything and everything to protect their own, regardless of whether or not a given individual deserves protection. This attitude only serves to further widen the chasm between LEOs and those who are skeptical of them, which in turn leads to even more distrust and animosity. This cycle will only be broken when the "good cops" (the majority) finally stand up and expel the "bad apples", rather than being complicit and turning a blind eye.

I know several good cops and I am glad that's what they do.

I think a lot of these instances in the video as scary as it was, is a result of some terrible training and some officers having to deal with situations that they are not prepared to deal with but have to. Such as the mentally ill.

I'm sure there was more to some of the stories than we were shown.

The part where they were asking for a compalint form was very scary in my opinion, but at he same time it made me laugh because it reminded me of a fake hand grenade a local building supply place use to have with "complaint department please take a number" written on the base and a "Number 1" written on a tag attached to the pin of the grenade.

I do think the current attitude of most departments is to stong arm situations as quickly as possible and talk about it later. I don't know that might be what they have found is the safest way to go about resolving situations.

I know I wouldn't want thier job.

I didn't "take aim" at anybody or expect you to jump on some "band wagon" and I didn't "rip" on any cops. OP posted a video that offended your delicate sensibilities and now you are pitching a b@tch fit about it. I would think being in the military and a former LEO as you claim you would have a thicker skin, but I guess political correctness and sensitivity training is what they are teaching you guys now-a-days. There is no reason people can't post videos showing another perspective (one which I have seen a lot in my life) Furthermore, If you want me to take a "stand" then here you go son: I have known a lot of cops. Some were good guys, some were alcoholic, abusive, self righteous megalomaniacs. I can't speak for any other LEO community, but corruption is prevalent in the LEO community around here. Some are good, some are bad. If this is me "ripping" on cops then I guess you are just going to have to get over it.

I’m not pitching a bitch fit about anything; we are discussing the issue.

You poke a dog with a stick and they get all teary eyed and “Jesus christ this is ridiculous” when you get the response you were looking for.

This isn’t posting about a few bad cops this is 6.8AR posting a “Largest Street Gang” video. I doubt he did it for any intelligent discussion; he did it to stir crap and it worked.

Then you have TMMT who claims to the resident bad cop expert and claims that the state of Tennessee has a disproportionate number of bad cops. He then seems stunned that a local forum cop would take offense at his ramblings; and is whining because he thinks he was threatened. WTF did he expect?

I feel sorry for you that you live in an area where you have to put up with Police corruption. (If that is the case)

I was not a cop in Tennessee but I have trouble believing that they are a bunch of redneck thugs as TMMT is suggesting.

He claims a high number of POST certifications being revoked. Educate me as to what this means. In Illinois you can’t be certified as a Police Officer unless you have a job as a Police Officer, working for a Police Department. You also can’t go to the Police Academy unless you are a Police Officer. It is my understanding that is not the case in Tennessee. Apparently you can attended the academy and be POST certified without having a job as a cop, and possibly never getting a job as a cop, which I assume would cause the certification to expire or be revoked. Could that be the reason for Tennessee having a higher rate of revocations than other states?

I have offered explanations several times before on how to deal with a bad cop when you encounter one. What to do both on the street and later. The most popular option around here seems to be to do nothing except get on the forum, make up a bunch of crap that can’t be verified and start a cop bashing thread until it is locked.

Now maybe someone would like to discuss some ways to fix the problem. I have a few ideas. But I have a feeling this will be reduced to name calling before we get to them. ;)

Oh, is that what I was supposed to do.....give an intelligent response? You have nothing valid to say other than repeating yourself, so why would I need to respond intelligently. I now you have to be intelligent though, you were a cop and in the military and I know they have strict IQ tests for you guys. What is the metric weight of a doughnut by the way? Oh yeah, feel free to drive your happy @ss over here and set me on the sidelines.:D

Wow this thread has become entertaining.

Whether for or against LEO's, I still stick to my previous statements that you're better off to comply with what the officer asks or demands, and then let a judge sort it out in court whether the situation was handled properly or not. The video posted was made with the intention of making LEO's look like street thugs, so they chose isolated incidents accordingly to fit their purpose. Even with the ones they did choose, I would still bet there was some kind of provocation in several of those situations. Simple fact is some officers handle provocation better than others.

On a side note, I have never claimed to be intelligent, but I also don't see any point in having intelligent arguments in a thread such as this. No matter which side you're on trying to lable all LEO's as nothing more than street thugs isn't very intelligent.

You're not helping your own cause, Dave. You stated that you have potential solutions, and yet you've offered none. I made a suggestion way back before you even asked that the problem will be solved when police begin policing themselves and forget about all this "thin blue line" BS, and you had no comment. All you've done to this point is continue to overreact and antagonize, and as a result, perpetuate the stereotype that you're railing against. Just my $0.03...

Are you kidding me? I don’t have a cause; I’m not a cop anymore, I just take offense at it. Cops have to be careful what they say on a forum; I don’t. I’m just having some fun with some haters; these guys are no different than redneck Klansmen.

The “Thin Blue Line†is TV drama. How do you think bad cops get caught?

All you've done to this point is continue to overreact and antagonize, and as a result, perpetuate the stereotype that you're railing against. Just my $0.03...

Again….. I’m not overreacting or antagonizing I’m just commenting on the ignorance I’m reading.

Okay… maybe I’m antagonizing a little bit, but how can you help it when it’s so easy to reduce some of these guys to grade school level babble?

You're right, DaveTN. I posted it for everything you said. I love your assumptions about why I posted this video. I did post it to see what kind of response it would get, but I had no intention cop bashing. Your version

of an intellectual discussion tells me there is no room for anyone else's

point of view. Of course, that's the case with 2nd amendment issues, also.

Observation is one thing. Omnipotence is another.

I don't have to prove my respect for LEO's to you. I do it when I meet one,

every time.

I also suggested a way to fix the problem. Policing their own is always a good start. A good cop doesn't want this kind of thing to cloud his or her

public perception, so why not do that? Or, is that 'ratting out your brother or sister'? Better training and hiring practices would possibly be in order.

That video suggested scenes that might be viewed as a 'police state'. I don't ever want to be near that.

Is that acceptable to you?

Sorry I didn’t know I needed to add a disclaimer. I do not mean to imply that I speak for anyone other than myself, only that when you start making dumb azz statements about cops it is usually going to be a mostly one way street, as they can’t say too much.

It’s a freakin cop bashing thread man; how do you expect it to go? :D

If some mental midget proclaimed that the marine Corp was the largest gang; how do you think that thread would go?
