Bought my carry piece

I asked yo about Glocks, didn't like the grip. eapking let me shoot his M&P 9mm at the Memphis call to arms and I thought I found the one I wanted. Then I tried out an XP9. I'ts the one .

It feels as good, handles as well and shoots as straight as the Smith does for me but it has one feature that sold me on it.....the grip safety.

Like I said in my Glock thread, I'm old school and never liked the idea of a hammmerless auto. I want to see the hammer down or a safety engaged (1911 cocked & locked} when holstering my gun. My fear was that one slip of trigger finger discipline could make my day go bad real quick.

I know the XD is available with a thumb safety, I'm sure someone will point this out but they are not so easy to find in the Memphis area unless I special order one. With the grip safety all I need to do is remove my thumb from the grip as I holster and the grip safety will disengage. Excellent safety feature IMO. Thumb discipline with this pistol along with trigger finger disciple makes me feel much better.

Thanks to all of you . TGO Is the shiznit.

I have an XD40 Tactical and ended up trading for a Glock 22 last year. Personally, I don't think there's enough difference between the two to fuss over. Both shoot very well. Both are comfortable in my hand and I have a most agreeably low cost in each. The only thing I really can say is that I prefer the grip safety on the XD now that I've shot both enough to break them in.

But to confuse the issue, I prefer my Glock 30 to the XD45.

Congrats and enjoy! I perfer the XD to the Glock. As I said in the Glock thread, I like the "DAO" no thumb safety guns for SD. That safey is one extra step to remember in a stressful situation. Cocked and locked is alright, but I perfer:

1) draw

2) aim

3) shoot

instead of:

1) draw

2) disengage safety (saw a video of a jewelry store owner who forgot this step)

3) aim

4) shoot
