It makes it easier to insure the magazine is fully seated in the gun. Especially in situations where speed is of the essence. It also helps protect the bottom of the magazine when empties are dumped form the gun for quick reloads. Some guns have magazine wells which extend the grip by a quarter inch or so, regular length mags can be a pain to seat.

So when you release the mag and it drops to the ground in a combat situation it is not damaged.

Still doesn't make sense to me. :biglol: Then again I don't use high dollar magazines that feed bullets the same way that GI or the $15-20 ones do. :P

And what Vero said.

CMC, Wilson...both good. Like the small bumper CMC better than the flush factory mags I have. A little "drop protection".

IMO....the magazine is the most underappreciated, yet vital piece on the 1911. Good mags make for better feeding, especially JHPs. Don't go cheap on mags. And especially if you are going to carry.

You've got that right. My Kimber Tactical II HD has an extended mag well. You can almost forget about putting in mags without a bumper in any reasonable time.
