I'll be honest: I don't think I'll carry every day or even very often. That said, I would like the option.

The thing holding me back is the class. I've heard that they are incredibly boring and so forth so I am dreading the eight hour day. Anyone know a decent class in the Knoxville area?

its actually REALLY informative. Yes, some stuff is repetitive and boring, but I guarantee, you'll learn atleast 1 thing :D the last 4 hours is at the range anyways :) it goes by pretty quickly, and before you know it, you're headed home with cert in hand.

man up and take it :)

I am taking the course at CCA Saturday. I have a couple of co-workers that took their's there, and they didn't have any negative things to say. I went in this morning and reserved my spot, took me ten minutes.

Another co-worker took his in Oak Ridge, I forget where he said, but he enjoyed his too.

The benefit I see from CCA is that they have an indoor range, which means I won't get rained on or be cold regardless of the weather. I don't get many weekends off.

Come take it with me, that way I will at least semi know someone there.

crap man, I would love to go with another tgoer. But this weekend is taken by family obligations. Specifically camping. I hate camping. Let me know how the class goes, CCA is close to my house.

I took mine from the Knox County Sheriff's office. It was not really boring and we got to shoot at their indoor range. Cost a little more but I think it was worth it if for no other reason than to use their range. what a showplace, and you get taught with a LEO point of view.

Boring? Not really. Have to watch poorly produced videos made in the 80's? Yep.

Worth every second? Yep.

It's all in the instructor. A good one can make it entertaining and informative. If the class seems boring to you, ask some questions. Generate some discussion. It will help everyone relax and you'll enjoy it more.

The wife and I had our class at Hickory Creek Practical Shooters (Watt Road area) instructed byCarl "Red" Smith. The class was very entertaining as well as interesting......not boring at all. I encouraged a brother and his wife to get their HCP's and I went along to sit thru Red's class again. His classroom is at his range and any of his former students are welcome to use the range free when he is on site. You can google 'Hickory Creek Practical Shooters' for contact info.

I took my class at Hickory Creek as well. Red was very entertaining, great instructor and very knowledgeable. The range is hard to get to but its one of the least expensive courses which always helps. Highly recommended!!

I took mine at gunnys " which seems to be getting a little negative feedback on here lately" I took mine a couple years ago and enjoyed it. Really nice and helpful people at the time. I was willing to go with my wife and sit thru it again if she would get hers.

Just got back.

Perfect written. Perfect shooting.

I did have two fliers in the 8 ring. Two in the 7. I was sad.

All in all the class was good. The instructor was personable and approachable. The class was varied as well with students. It was small and pretty painless compared to what I expected.

I posted on the first page I was going to CCA.

After being a patron there for a year for the range, I am almost willing to admit that my first visit and rude treatment was a fluke. Of the dozen times or more I have been in there since, I have been treated very well.

Took mine at PSTCC with Knox Co. Sheriff's instructor teaching and went to the Volunteer Rifle Range to shoot.

I enjoyed it and was very informative.

CCA....ehhh....I'm not gonna say anything further about that but most knows my opinion about it.

Took mine at Gunny's a couple years ago. Instructor was entertaining but was not up to par with his knowledge on current laws or general firearm nomenclature. Austin's TN Firearms in Oak Ridge seems to be highly rated. They're a bunch of good guys there and from what I hear the training is well worth the extra money. CCA is well... CCA. Some have had positive and some have had negative experiences there. Your mileage may vary.
