Roy Jinks' book is the bible of Smith and Wesson. I think a copy should be mandatory study in high school American History class. Everyone should own a copy.

Although I know who he is; I’ve never seen the book. Is it better than the SCSW?

Anyone remember what years the S&W M10-5 was made?
I've got an old 10-5, wondered when it was made. Ser# D 310

If the serial is D310 it is 1968

If it is D310xxx its 1970.

Heavy barrel 10-5’s were only made one year, 1962 (they changed to 10-6 in 62). Standard barrel 10-5’s were from 62 to possibly as late as 1977

So yours must be a standard barrel.

Yep, a nice little 10-5 "skinny" barrel. D310xxx, finish about 85%, I put factory target grips on it in 79. Light little gun, very well balanced. Forgot the round count years ago. Funny, I oiled the hexx out of it , put it in oily rags and locked it in a 50cal. ammo can, left it in my mom's attic( I had just separated from "x" ) from 84 to 95 after she moved down to Maryville, my step-dad gave it to me. I had forgot about it. He didn't even know there was a gun in the box. The little 38 was still in great shape. !!! I was amazed.! I still shoot it a couple of times a year, just so I can say, I don't own any safe-queens.
