On older pencil barrel models, much positive has been written on this and other struts.

Really dunno if you get much from it on the newer barrel design in the latter 580 and 581 series.

MikeGideon has somebody's model on one of his, I believe. He'll probably check in.

I have an Accustrut. I think it improved things, but didn't do a lot of testing. I was also using plain old ammo.

Have you had any trigger work performed? I actually have a mini 30 with a 17" barrel and the Mo-reaper muzzle brake/front sight. I have been considering a new barrel from accuracy systems inc but if I could decent groups with a strut, trigger job and the muzzle brake it might not be worth it, unless of course I did a 6.5 Grendel conversion. Life would be so much easier if I didn't love the mini, I could just join the AR crowd!!

I have not used a Mo-Rod, but I have used a homemade barrel strut. It stopped the vertical stringing.

My barrel was very bad. It would string several MOA both vertically and horizontally. The barrel strut definitely reduced the vertical stringing.

I also had the barrel cryo'd, cut to 16.25", threaded and added a flash suppressor. After cryo, the barrel stopped stringing horizontally. I didn't put the strut back on after that. I haven't tried to shoot groups since the shortening. I'm hoping the shortening and adding the muzzle attachment, along with the cryo treatment, will cure the stringing problem.

I also had the idea to add a light under the barrel at two attachment points in place of a barrel strut. Serves two purposes. But I haven't gotten to test that yet either.

Good luck,

Will

Gun Doc did my trigger. He's the best...

Welcome to Great West Gunsmithing

Thanks for the link, I spent an hour watching his videos. I will be sending my trigger to him shortly! I saw another gunsmith who puts a screw in front of the trigger to decrease the take-up and it looked very sketchy. I definitely feel confident having Gun Doc perform the work.
