They were LE only when they were first released and I handled one and thought it was kind of neat, but the cost (of weapon and ammo) and limited practicality didn't sell me.

Definitely not for a grand! I think they were $700-800 in 2001.

I noticed a lot of people complaining about the price of the gun. Yes, it is expensive, but you can always get used and save some cash.

The second complaint is the price of ammo. There is no getting around the fact that it is expensive. But, you can buy reloaded armor piercing ammo, but it costs about $.75 per cartridge when you a 1000 at a time. The manufacturer says it penetrates better than the ss190 too. link

2250 fps is pretty good from a handgun.

If you are a cop you can get I think the ss198 at scotsville gun for around $16/50... So, it really isn't all that expensive.

Add all that to the fact you can buy a ps90 which can be modified to hold 50 rounds and you are good to go.
