Show me your .308 AR builds!

I agree with the above. Shoot/build what you enjoy. The SCAR is a great gun, but I think of it as more of a battle rifle. If your going for long range precision the weight and gas system of the AR are going to lend themselves to better accuracy. I built my AR-308's for that purpose. That being said I would love to own a SCAR too.

I got a Mega MATEN with the modular handgaurds before LMT sued them. A really nice item. Unfortunately I have not been home to start work and build it up. Still trying to find a propper lower parts kit for it. For barrel, I am thinking of copying the M110 or even go abit longer.

Any standard AR lower parts kit will work the only thing specific to the large frame AR's is the bolt catch and takedown pins and the Mega set comes with the takedown pins. You can even use the bolt catch from a standard AR kit but it will be a little loose. I used a standard DPMS .308 LPK with mine, replaced all the controls with Troy ambi controls and the standard trigger with a Wilson combat TTU.

Love it!

I'm ordering the Mega Maten upper & lower on the 30th. :)

Who makes a good tack driving barrel?

Since I have been reading about these I actually see a lot of praise for the DPMS SASS barrel.

My first .308 was the DPMS LR-308. I quickly found that a lot of AR10 parts are not interchangeable like the AR15 platform. A lot do work with the DPMS lower. I believe Mega, JP, and maybe Hogan. Armalite isn't interchangeable with anything. If you get a FF tube, you have to get the specific barrel nut for the upper.

I recently picked up the Sig 716. It's a great rifle and economically priced for a piston .308. Not really much I changed on it. Used a PWS brake, worked the trigger to sweeten it up, anti-walk pins, and a houge grip. It came with an ambi mag catch. That's it.
It came with gas rings for some reason. Can run with or without. There's no spring on the firing pin like the manual shows. Sig says the manual was made before production of the rifle.

Overall I love the AR10s. It actually has an impact and can reach out there. I won't be going back to the .223/5.56 and everyone that shoots my .308 has a big big grin.

Ordering my MEGA MATEN upper and lower set from D&T today.

They're back ordered, so estimated delivery is 4 months out.

That won't matter to me because it'll probably take me that long to learn all I need to know and source the parts.

Do you guys think a Krieger barrel with JP compensator will shoot any tighter than the DPMS SASS barrel?

I'm increasingly tempted to build a "heavy" AR chambered in .308 for some longer range shooting. The Mega Arms MATEN upper/lower receiver combo looks like a nice way to get into it and Ranier Arms has a polygonal-rifled barrel that would mate up to it nicely.

So show me what you guys have built or bought for your 308 AR platform. Give me some ideas. :)

Just got back from D&T Arms. Got my MEGA MATEN upper and lower set ordered. :)

Anyone looking to build a MEGA MATEN, you should get ahold of D&T to order it for you since their pricing is good on it.

Now for the 4 month wait! :)
