Military Rules?

Are there rules about an Enlisted ( male ) marring an Reserve ( female officer ) ?  My brother in law tells me they cant marry because of rules - Can anyone explain or reference documents for this?

I don't know what the current rules are, but I know plenty of Army enlisted guys that are married to female Army officers. There are fraternization regs, but I don't know how they apply outside of unit and branch. Surely it can't be too restrictive considering the vast number of enlisted/officer marriages.

In the day it had a lot to do with they can't be in the same unit. That said in my unit I have quit a few the one is on active duty and the other is enlisted. But being married is the key. I have still seen a lot get in trouble over fraternization..

Here is the policy for the Army as of 2006. It appears to be okay if it was from a civilian relationship outside the Army.
But like anything, even if it’s legal; it could kill a military career.

I don't know alot about it but I can tell you that one of my buddies is a Marine and he married a female Marine both active I believe.

A lot of currently married enlisted/officers got married as enlisted/enlisted, enlisted/civilian, And then one went the officer route. I don't know that I have ever heard of an officer marrying an enlisted person.

Most fraternization policies are issued at a branch level, so not sure.

 

They need to speak with JAG and get an answer, cause just as they give a commission, they can taketh away, and that may result in having to finish out the rest of her contract as enlisted (depending on their policies)

Haha, may I submit to you Army Reserve Major Paula Broadwell... despite breaking about two dozen laws I'm betting she gets to walk away with her commission and retirement.

As long as they are not in the same chain of command, then there would be no conflict of interest or violation of AR 600-200.  (SSG, U.S. Army, Retired)

I have known 2 married couples like that I. The same unit in could end up in a crew where one was in charge. It's the Air National Guard so things are a little lax here. I don't see why your situation would be a problem.

When I was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska I had a Platoon Sgt (E7) who was married to an Air Force Captain stationed at Elmendorf AFB.  They lived in base housing at Elmendorf.  Never heard of any issues and I did ask him about it occasionally.  He did say that if they attended an Air Force dining in, or some other function, that they asked him to not wear his uniform.

Well she is not an officer yet, but wants to become one so they had to get married before she is - so they wouldnt brake  " the rules"
