Bob Pope Gun Shows Ending

Recommended Posts

Got this email today.

BELOW IS AN EMAIL MESSAGE FROM BOB POPE WHO IS RETIRING FROM THE MODERN GUN SHOW BUSINESS!!!

Most of you know I have been doing gun shows in Tennessee for more than 24 years. I have enjoyed working with you for many years. However all good things must come to an end. This letter is to inform you I have sold my gun shows. All TGCA members need not be concerned. Your membership for 2008 will be honored at the October and December shows in Franklin.

To stop the rumor mill I am going to tell each of you exactly what happened. The Tuesday after my last show I received a call and the gentleman ask if my shows were for sale and I said I would be open to that suggestion. I priced the shows and my offer was accepted. I will not be doing any more modern type gun shows.

There are several options that have been discussed with me regarding the gun subject. One of those options is the hosting of a 2 hr radio show. As of today I do not know what I am going to do. As things progress I shall keep all of you informed.

Now I need to chat with the dealers that are TGCA members. If you have paid for your tables in advance for the October show in Franklin your tables are secure. For all dealers that reserved, but did not pay for your tables you need to contact Rex at RK shows. RK shows can be reached by going to Google and typing RK Shows.

In closing I would like to thank each and every one of you for supporting me and Bob Pope gun shows over the last 24 years. And to you old boys out there that also supported gun world in La Vergne from 1975-1983 I really want to especially thank you. I have made many friends over the years at the shop and shows. I shall never forget each and every one of you. It has been my honor to meet and call you my friend.

May God Bless and Keep You from Harm

Your Friend

Bob

You can count out the Better part of the gun shows. They run the ones in Memphis and it is more Tin Foil Hat than it is Gun Show.

But you can get some good jerky.

That most likely has to do with the lack of local dealers to set up at the show. The RK shows in Chattanooga and Knoxville are pretty good IMO.

The Pope show in Franklin really only had one thing going for it that drew me down there: I could go down and buy a bunch of ammo from the Georgia Arms table. Neither the RK (Smyrna) nor the Goodman (Nashville) shows have a decent bulk ammo dealer. If RK takes it over I hope they can keep GA showing up.

I met Bob Pope MANY many years ago outside of one of his gun shows.

I had just left the building with my friend (both of us about 14 years old) and his mother. I was kinda sad that I didn't get to buy a knife that day because I didn't have enough money.

A guy came up to me and asked me if I enjoyed the show. I told him I did but didn't buy what I wanted because it cost too much. He asked what I was after, I told him I wanted a 3 blade Case knife. He pulled a knife out of his pocket that was almost exactly what I wanted (but probably cost much more!). He asked if I wanted something like this, I said yes, and he said "It's yours." I couldn't have been happier!!

My friends' mom told me after we walked away that the man was Bob Pope, and he was the one that runs that show.

So, that's my Bob Pope story of the day. Who's next?

If you want to see Bob Pope, stop by TFA meeting at Shoney's tonight @6:30. Bob attends each month.

Probably the safest place to eat in Nashville. :dirty:

(Tennessee Firearms Association meets third Tuesday each month,

lately at the Shoney's close to football stadium, Nashville)
