Anyone ever had this problem with a boresnake?

Recommended Posts

I bought a savage .17hmr today and also bought a 17hmr bore snake. The weight was having some trouble dropping down the barrel. Whenever I got it through and got a hold of it the boresnake snapped into.

I'm contacting hoppes tomorrow to see what they say, but has this happened to anyone else?

The string snapped off? I've read of this happening to others. Mine has always worked fine. Perhaps a quality control issue? I mean, these thing are made in a communist country... Maybe they don't know about Six Sigma over there.... Sent from somewhere in the cosmos using magic...and bacon. Edited by Ted S.

I must admit I worry about them a bit, since that's about all I use anymore.

I assume you mean the string broke out of the main body of the snake, I hope you can still grab the other end? I've heard they can be damn tough to get out of there, and not real sure how I'd get one out myself if not.

Keep us informed.

The string that broke was the initial string, before it gets to the thick cleaning part. I was able to grab the other end and pull it back out of the muzzle. I was pulling it with my hand, I've heard stories of people stepping on it and pull in the rifle up instead, and they never had one break.

I've used one quite frequently with my .22's and .223 and never had an issue. Having bought it a couple hours ago I'm quite displeased at the moment, hopefully they'll reimburse me or send a new one.
