New to me double rifle

Just picked it up tonight. I hope it is not storming tomorrow after work so I can go shoot it.

It is a 45-70 Baikal. I did not like the sling so I took it off tonight. It has 23.5" barrels. The triggers have quite a lot of take up but actual pull weight is good. At least compared to some of the reviews online. I have always wanted a double rifle and now have one

I read the barrels can be regulated with set screws. How does it work and can you take close up pictures of the muzzle where they are?

 

I have been intrigued by these for a while but was curious about how to regulate the barrels.

I have two standing invites to Texas for hog hunting. Also I am praying that my dad's cancer treatments go well and he can go with me next spring. This rifle should be good for deer as well. Will update later today with a target picture.

Sure will take them for you. It is a jack screw between the barrels. The left barrel is fixed you are supposed to sight it in then adjust the jack screw to bring the right into regulation. I will be laying with it today. The gentleman I bought it from said it shot good for him. We shall see.

Doubling=bad just as bad as a semi auto that goes uncontrollable full auto. Neither is reliable. To do it on purpose is not what I would choose to do.

Do you have pet loads? After I build up a supply of brass will be loading it.

I was back in my younger days was given a chance to shoot a SBS rifle by a buddy of mine that owned a large ranch in Cheatham County. Horse ranch, 2500 acres. me not knowing any better took him up on it. Sometimes I do stupid things and that was one of them. Gun had three triggers and while you were putting your target in sight you pulled the first one releasing the lock to the right barrel. then upon getting your target in sight you pulled the second trigger. Stupid is as stupid does!!! Failure to remember the first rule in shooting guns that recoil is to tuck it into your shoulder tight before discharging it. That was the 1st and only time I ever wanted to shoot that gun again. It was a Holland & Holland 454 and had a steel butt plate with gold inlay of engraving of a Bengal tiger head in it and I had a bruise or that head in my shoulder for about a week. First and last and only time I will ever pull the trigger on a SBS Heavy caliber rifle again. Glad you got eh gun of your dreams and hope you enjoy it and all I can tell you that is positive it make sure you tuck it into your shoulder before pulling the trigger............... :up:  :up:  :up:

It is close to regulation with the 405 grain Remington factory ammo. Didn't really try to do any adjusting tonight just blasting for fun. At 25 and 50 yards kept all hits within the 5 1/2 Orange center of an International 100 yard Schuetzen target. They are crossing slightly but within adjustment I think.

They guy I bought it from included a Limb Saver slip on recoil pad. With the pad recoil was similar in feel too a 28 gauge shotgun. Here are some pictures:

I do not reload.  I mainly use mine for hunting, not target shooting.  So I just use the 325gr Hornady Leverolution loads.
