What model of Winchester is this???

Recommended Posts

I would imagine its similar to how S&W amd others did their guns. Some guns that old were made before they had model numbers, such as a S&W pre-29 .44 Magnum. When you went to buy or order one, you just said, a S&W .44 magnum, because they only made one kind, then later, companies gave their guns model numbers or names.

But that is just a guess

Thanks for your reply.  After posting this I did some more research and found this:

From 1879 to 1884 Winchester bought breech loading double barrel hammer shotguns from a number of English Gun makers. These shotguns were imported, marked and sold by Winchester through a store maintained by Winchester in New York City. These shotguns were chambered in 10 and 12 gauge, and advertised and marked as "Match Gun", "Class A", "B", "C" and "D". The total of all types sold was approximately 10,000. The English Gun makers were W.C. Scott & Sons, Richard Rodman, C.G. Bonehill and W.C. McEntree.
