There is no doubt in my mind Obama is going to be the next president but could he really get an assault weapons ban passed? I dont see it getting through the republican controlled senate or possibly even the house due to some democrats voting against it. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on this matter.

IMO, the economy, Iraq/Afghanistan/Iran, Energy, health care, are going to be the priorities of the next POTUS. 2nd amendment is a good instrument to use during elections, and much if it left to the states and I think it will stay that way.

The economy is not going to get better, it might improve a little but the problem we are in is here to stay for the foreseeable future. I am in commercial real estate and I am by far not an expert, however I do have friends, coworkers, financial industry professionals that are very knowledgeable and they all seem to agree that this problem is going to take awhile, 1-3 years to clean up. Our economy should be better because of it, but it is going to be very very hard the next couple of years.

So in my opinion, the 2nd amendment issues, won't be that big of an issue.

Just my .02.

You're assuming that we will have a Republican controlled House or Senate, and furthermore assuming that an Obama Administration wouldn't get the chance to appoint a few more Left-leaning Justices to the Supreme Court. Any of those things would potentially jeopardize the interpretation of individual rights under the 2nd Amendment.

And I agree with that. But what better smoke-screen to get something "less important to the American people" express-lined through legislation? The American people are so preoccupied with the economy that it might be all too easy to slip some anti-2nd Amendment changes in under the radar.

Good point. First thing I though of was pork barrel spending projects.

With the large number of anti-gunners already in the House and Senate it won't take long for a bill to be pushed through and signed by Obama while they get the face time deploring the state of economy etc.

The state of the economy is the main issue of this election. The state of the Economy and the very likely possibility of Palin becoming president have pushed me into the undecided category leaning more towards Obama.

See the post by Orson Scott Card that I made regarding Obama and the Economy. Why is there a likely possibility that Palin would become President? IF she did it would only be after 4 to 8 years of McCain.

It is more likely that Biden would serve as President quicker then Palin could ascend if Obama wins.

McCain is In his 70's odds are pretty good he will die during his term. Palin seems so stupid it worries the hell out of me. I have my doubts that Obama will have the power to pass an assault weapons ban and feel like I need to vote on the economy.

Im will not accept it until nov 5. I dont trust the polls. They poll 900 likley voters. Who choses the polsters. I can go to one part of town and get 900 obama votes. But if I go to another part I can get 800-900 Mccain votes. Also what part of the country do they call?

I have never been ask by the polling people about my choice. I think they are BS.

This battle is not over folks. The Democrat ALWAYS is up in the polls prior to the election. Heck in 2004 at about 4pm EST we were being told it was all over for Bush and Kerry was about to win. Jimmy Carter was up double didgets over Ron Maximus!!!

Do not be fooled, it is not over.

Odds are that McCain will live to be 77+. We only need him for a little while LOL. Have you looked at the life expectancy of past presidents and compared their ages to the life expectancies of their time?

What makes you think that Obama wont have the power to but a ban in place?

So your vote for the economy is to raise taxes and spending to fix a failed economy?

 overdose?

I have listened to the debates and he said he is only raising taxes on those making more than 250,000 and I just feel like McCain will be the same as Bush on the economy, Military, spending, and he will likely support the patriot act. I feel like Obama will be more concerned with the economy, Iraq, and ending the patriot act than passing the AWB.

With the two sorry choices we have in candidates it looks like a toss up on who can do the most for the economy, but the next President will appoint one and maybe two Supreme Court Justices and I will not chance my vote or gun rights on a Democratic pick. I will hold my nose and vote McCain.----MP

Well, guys, you are mostly voting a one-issue ticket.

Most here are going McCain for one reason only.

Here's an irony...I don't know of many more conservative groups than FedEx contractors, and most of the ones I knew are well into firearms also. But as things fall apart for FedEx due to the federal class actions and the employee division being buried compared to UPS, FedEx contractors and employees are going overwhelmingly for Obama, as there is a MUCH better chance that Dem controlled Washington will repeal Railroad Labor Act and etc.

So they are mostly one-issue voters also.

My mom can't stand the idea of Palin becoming president, so is likely voting Democrat for the first time in her life.

A couple of her friends are voting for McCain because of abortion issue (they say). But they have voted Demo in the past, and the Demo platform hasn't changed in that regard in many elections, so they real reason is that they won't vote for a black. And of course, this is the biggest (unspoken) single issue in the entire election.

no doubt there will be a opportune time to strike.....just when we arn't looking it will slip by and it will be tooooooooooo late. Anyone who thinks this will not or can not happen is living in a closet. USA is coming closer and closer to "china" every year.

DOWN with BIG Government!! Can Tennessee please break off soon and become independant?

Maybe the real answer would be for California and the Northeast to break off and form The Peoples Republic of America

Again I say, what is wrong with Palin? The media has said she is stupid and "extreme" but what position does she hold that is extreme and what has she done to show she is so stupid? I have yet to see a SINGLE shred of evidence other than the constant drum of the media and entertainment industry.

Both of the choices scare me due to their lack of experience. Palin reminds me of some hot clueless cheerleaders i knew in high school and I dont believe a woman should ever be put in a position where they could be commander of the armed forces but then again this will only be an issue if McCain croaks.

separator.gifI'm still not convinced eh'll be elected. Kids my age are a large part of his support base. I know more than a few Cbamaites who aren't even registered to vote....they don't even realize it's too late. I think that'll cut his lead for sure.

I disagree with most on this one. A weapons ban (more likely an ammo ban, or individual bullet ID program) will be a top priority.

Obama is a socialist with a socialist agenda (at best).

Name one socialist country that enjoys the weapons freedoms that we do, BEFORE they devolved into chaos and open warfare.

Obama is going to cut the nuts out of the military, he's said so and he will have to fund his civilian service corps, so all the rebuilding that has happened with intelligence, the military, and weapons systems production and planning will be undone.
