#1 is a 1974 6 dot 6380 Pattern Whittler that has never been carried or sharpened $350 #2 is a 1940-64 Baby Copperhead. The copperhead has never been carried or sharpened but it looks like someone left oil on it for to long and it ghosted one side of both blades. It would make a dandy little carry knife and user since the blade has been ghosted. $150 for the baby copperhead $450 if you buy them both together. This one has too much old age carry wear to be gradeable, or at least I’d speculate so never bothered with acquiring an NGC cert etc. Tried to get two different lighting angles - backside was more shaded and shows up better.. annnnyway; $500 (can take different pics if you’d like)

A carry pistol should be your first choice. Find one that fits you, comfortable in the hand. I agree you should try and shoot a few different models before making your choice. The OP said "budget" renting pistols at the ranges around here doesn't qualify as "LOW budget". With that said, it might be cheaper than the wrong pistol. But it IS your choice, no one except you will know if you are comfortable with it, Practice is a high priority. Therefore, if one is on a budget I would agree with the lower priced gun and more ammo. I've never owned a Glock so I won't malign them other than to say they are the Camry of pistols, ugly, basic, working machines. And just like the Camry, they have risen to overpriced for the machine due to reputation. Also remember that Glock also fails, breaks, and have issues. I'll put my Taurus pistols round for round against any other brand. LAKELINE, M-CARBO, and GALLOWAY PRECISION all carry replacement/upgrade parts for Taurus G2/G3 pistols. There are also multiple videos on installing these parts as well as how to's on fixing perceived issues. As an example, a Glock 21 is twice what I paid for a Taurus PT845. And for a poly framed pistol I prefer the Taurus.

Don’t worry about holding anybody back. Be safe and accurate and the rest will come. The tactical-bro types will tell you competitive shooting will teach you bad tactics and will just get you killed. Ignore them - half those guys went to a match to teach everybody how it’s done and got their asses handed to them, primarily because they’re just not nearly as good as they thought. USPSA, IDPA, etc are not defensive training, but they will quickly make you immensely more competent with a gun. I think Massad Ayoob said shooting matches are not gunfights, but gunfights are shooting matches.

I just checked out that Taurus. It looks pretty cool. Take the plunge! Taurus is known for their innovation. They have come a long way in the last 20 years, and I will not talk trash about them. You should also look at a Ruger. LPC Max, Security 380, Security 9mm, or the new RMX.
