  1.   And I think this sums up what the carry class is about.  It is not a self-defense course, it is an explanation/instruction on the laws of carrying and using a handgun in TN.  It is also a test for the basic understanding of the law in this regard and a test to be sure you possess a minimum of knowledge to load, shoot and handle a handgun safely.  What concerns me the most is that a lot of people consider this self defense training, and now are 'trained' to handle such a situation.  To me, the HCP is analogous to a Hunter's Safety course or your Driver's Learning Permit......it should be just the start.
  2.   Yep, same here.  Will do my first class next month.
  3. They would have needed to call Service Master to clean up the mess I would have made with my self-defense method.
  4. As far as the Wilson mags, I heard from a reliable source that the mag springs in the 7 and 8 round mags are the same.  I also have been experiencing problems with my Wilson mags.  I just ordered some new Wolfe springs for replacement.  Will see if this solves the problem of not locking back on empty mag.
  5. I have had several things done by their shop and all results have been excellent.  Same experience with several of my friends.  I know for a fact that the gunsmithing service is simply overwhelmed at times by the work they have.  Several times they stopped taking in new work to try and catch up.  I have seen several changes over the past year and expect it only to keep getting better.
  6. I have several 1911s as well as a good supply of other handguns.....nothing shoots better/accurately than my Sig Nitron.
  7. I agree to a point with Leroy......like most things, it depends. You won't go wrong with a relatively high-end O/U. The Browning 325,425 series and up to the new 725 series are very good. As are the Berettas. Don't get caught up in the European high end thinking you are getting a better product necessarily. My dream gun is the Perazzi, but I would hate to part with my European cut Browning 425. But, I have worn out the locking bolts in a couple of Brownings. Other guns will have some problems too, but only after 100,000 rounds and up. FWIW, I have completely worn out an 1100, as well as a Benelli. Nothing lasts forever, YMMV.
  8. The HS hulls are the 'new' AA hull and are the same regardless of color.  They are not the same hull as the 'old' AA hull which use to be the gold standard of quality hulls.  I guess it has been about 10 yrs or so ago that Winchester had to replace their shell making machines.  Most reloaders didn't like the new hull as much as the old.  IMO, the old shells made a better reload.  You can tell the difference by looking at the inside.....and by the swirls in the plastic of the old style hulls.  Don't buy hulls from Ballistic Products.  You can find them on line from private stock much cheaper; maybe even the old style.   My preference is the Remington hull, either the gold colored Nitro 27 or the green STS hull.
  9. If your gun is not a 3" gun, then the receiver will not eject them as the port is not cut big enough. If you are talking about the chamber in a new gun, stick to 3". If you have a special hunt and need more fire power, you can always use hevi shot. In fact, I use it in 2 3/4" for my Canada trips.
  10. Yep, know exactly what you mean. It is a great way to relax with a side benefit of saving a little money and shooting more.
  11. Battleop, do you have a shotshell reloader?  Reloading shotshells now not the big savings it once was with the price of lead being what it is.  Should be able to find a good deal on a MEC progressive.  Highly recommend the 9000G.  Once set up properly, it is possible to load a box of shells in less than one minute.
  12.   You are always with her?  Also racking the slide is a necessity for clearing malfunctions.........Murphy's Law.
  13. I am all about technique, but today an older friend of mine simply could not operate the slide of a 709 Slim. Arthritis and age have a way of sapping your abilities. I would imagine a lot of folks, for various reasons simply can't make it work. A revolver may wind up being the best choice for some folks.
  14. Buddy of mine bought a Taurus 1911....came with only one mag. I think Academy routinely does this to have lower prices. Not unusual for BIG BOX stores. Home Depot has done it for years with appliances and mowers.
  15. I usually follow Consumer Reports testing.  Last time I checked, Cooper unseated Michelin as #1 in Truck tires.
  16. Well in this case God let a stupid person handle a gun.  Too bad he didn't look down the barrel to see what was wrong with it......
  17. The only hull that makes a quality reload by Federal is the Gold Medal hull, or the paper hulls (love the smell). Look on line for a good deal on buying hulls of your desired brand if you can't find them locally at a range.
  18. Nickel is used because it is generally regarded as 'slicker' for more positive feeding. It is still a brass case, just nickel plated. It is used quite a bit in some shotshell loads to help protect lead shot and to make it relatively smoother and harder to maintain more consistent and tighter patterns. Also, there is a new ammo maker in East Tennessee. They are supply ammo to Coal Creek Armory routinely.
  19. Load unibody shells (Win.AA, Rem Nito27,or STS, even Gun Club) with identical data for the most part. I routinely have used for years 19gr of Clays, Win. Primer and Win AA wad with 1oz shot. Has worked my SBE faithfully, although I generally use it in my Target gun. Velocity will be around 1250FPS. Not much recoil. FWIW, IMO, Benelli and super-lite loads rarely function unless the gun is well-worn, clean, and oiled. Also if recoil is an issue for your wife, she will be much happier with a gas-operated gun such as the Beretta 391.
  20. This in a 12ga.  Best O/U for the money.  Built like a tank.  I've hunted snipe to turkey, waterfowl, and you can shoot skeet and trap as well.  Like Robert said, everything is somewhat a compromise, but this one will work.  The hard part will be finding one.  FWIW, every Ruger Red Label I have shot kicks like a mule.
  21. So when does the Avatar change take place?

Not all spurs are created equally, therefore, no one solution. Also, not all spurs cause problems. At least 25% of the population have heel spurs; most don't hurt. Those that do can be treated successfully with proper shoe wear, routine and proper stretching exercises, nite splints and anti-inflammatories. These didn't develop overnite and will not improve overnite as well. It takes time and patience. If you have had pain for several weeks probably time to seek professional help.

If it were that simple with a 100% success rate..you would be right, but unfortunately that is not the case.

Bone spurs are in their own way normal.  That spur just didn't pop up, it has been developing for years.  Surgery is not the answer, nor is searching for a cure over the internet, especially from people that tend to shoot first and ask questions later . I treat these things for a living.  If you want, you can PM me for a little free advice.
  25. WHAT?!?!? Geraldo says no one hunts with an AR.
