  1. "Bird Hunting" generally infers upland birds. Lots of walking and dog work, not that much shooting, more carrying the shotgun. That would tend to make you lean towards a lighter gun. Also, in general, flushing birds which requires quickness, again lighter is better as is a shorter barrel...26" is plenty. So this is also a good place for your O/U shotguns. Dove hunting....heck anything will do, but I would tend to stay away from the lighter guns, or even recoil operated guns as a lot of shooting will make your shoulder sore, if not bruised up. Waterfowl tends to lean towards a heavier, longer gun capable of firing 3" shells. Not saying a gun won't handle every situation, but some work at some things better than others.
  2. If you are having trouble knocking 'em down, stick to 7 1/2. http://www.chuckhawks.com/squared_load.htm
  3. just out of curiosity, why an 1 1/4 oz. HV load in #9?
  4. I have fought this problem as well, especially in my .45ACP - Sig 1911 specifically. Seating the bullet a couple of thousands deeper generally solves the issue. I have actually 'pulled' the case away from the bullet trying to extract. Keep a wooden dowel handy for times like these.
  5. Loudon County, plenty of birds, limits, old dog got a good work out by the creek and shade trees, good BarBQ, homemade icecream..........I know I'm missing something.
  6. OH SH**.....Hope that's not DCS knockin' on the door....
  7. Fine by me......and I don't blame you one bit......but try and make sure I'm on the jury. Problem is anymore, the jury generally is not made up of your peers.
  8. WHAT?!?! This woman was only doing what VP Biden recommended.
  9. I think that was all Pincus was saying as well. No use drawing a 'red-line' now, because as the PREZ has shown, that line is subject to change.
  10. Simple question, someone or 'someones' are jiggling your front door, even pounding on it......you say, " go away or I will shoot'  and they comply.  OR  they do come in, when you said nothing, they all are armed, even have BP vests, and you die in the shootout, your family killed, or worse.  Which option had the better outcome.  I know, I know, stupid question, but the point is, there are some situations that verbal warnings can prevent tragic, unnecessary outcomes.
  11. I have trained with both and can recommend them both, as well as at least a half dozen others.  Each one has a similar theme but different presentations as well as unique tips and techniques.  There is no ONE way.  All have been very enjoyable.
  12. From my understanding, as long as you are on your own property, no endangering anyone, you can legally hunt/shoot within the TWRA regs.
  13. There are no guarantees in a gunfight.  As Batman said, shooting is a last resort.  If a simple verbal warning eliminates the threat, the family will be much safer with shouting rather than bullets bullets flying.  OTH, he sums it up with being prepared through training to respond with force if need be.
  14. anybody else had trouble like I posted with Bullseye?  I mean that stuff wasn't coming out unless scrubbed to the point of taking paint and all off.
  15. I have an old LC in 12ga.  It too made by Hunter.  I have used it several times on S. Dakota pheasant hunts.  I used typical trap loads, loaded with 'English 7's'.  Stay away from heavy loadings in these old guns; they have a history of cracking the wood in the wrist of the stock.
  16. Get your taper crimp down to 0.468. Be sure you are placing the bullet on the case mouth as close to perfectly straight as possible. If you feel there is wax and or lead around the case mouth, take some Hornady cleaner/lube on a cloth clean the area by twisting it in cloth several times. This can cause some chamber build up and tightness, especially if you first few rounds are cycling well then it starts getting erratic.
  17. Well.....IF...... it breaks off, it is not a very tight fit and I assume the bad guy will have one extra hole in him with a 'little yellow thingy' sticking in him too.
  18. skeet and trap have different requirements.  While both can be shot with 7 1/2  shot or smaller, some skeet fields require #9 shot, which works just fine and preferred by many. No need for heavy loads.  Skeet can also be shot with any gauge, hence smaller shot will give better pattern density.   Trap on the other hand is a 12ga game.  Not that you can't use others, but serious trap is a 12 game.  Generally 7 1/2 or 8 is a personal choice until you start backing up beyond the 20 yd. line, then the nod goes to the 7.1/2.
  19. I would bet most who post negatively about the Vesa Carry have not tried it.  I use one routinely.  Very easy to put on and take off.  Routinely it is comfortable, and very good concealment.  Releases the gun easily.  Oh yeah, haven't shot myself either and I carry with one in the pipe.

  21. Anybody want to get rid of their 9mm, I be glad to re-cycle it for them.
