  1. Planning on a trip to Front Sight in May to take their Advanced Tactical Handgun Class.  Will take some family and friends for other classes at that time.  As I have posted before, this is a great facility and excellent training.  Many LEO, especially in that area have attended multiple classes there.  Also the 4 Day Defensive HG class is their main and busiest course.  Especially good for the new shooter to get started right.  If you have and interest would be glad to answer your questions.
  2.   I have a low mounted 2x7 scope that makes it difficult to reach with my right hand.  In a rush in certain positions would be much more efficient to be able to use my right hand rather than have to come completely out of the gun.
  3. Any suggestions for the AR
  4. yeah, and there is one owned by Frank Nicely in the Historical Museum here in Knoxville.  It is made by Russel Bean who holds the title of the 1st white child born in TN.  I also have an article somewhere showing a Judge from upper ETN holding one.  All the Beans were regarded as gunsmiths back in their day.  I can tell you that they used up all that talent because I never got any of it.
  5. I use a Taurus PT709 routinely and have recommended it to several others.  Good carry piece.  While it is not the M&P shield, especially the trigger, it is a clone.
  6. Just came upon this old, old thread.  I am a Bean decendent as well.  Any recent reports of Bean rifles or reproductions?
  7. It all looks good, based on your numbers.  IMO it does vary a little with the hopper level, and vibration being the biggest influence.  I would accept what you are getting, especially with that size of charge.
  8. I will try and post a picture later.  Use 2pieces of 15"  1.5" in. dia. PVC  connected in the middle with a 'T'.  Use two of these for the base.  In the "T" that points up, put in another 15" ppe with a T glued to the top end.  The open, top part of the T will hold furring strip, the cross, open T runs over to the other base.  The cross pipe is also 15".  These can be glued or simply pressed fitted so they come apart for transportation.  I carry mine in a laundry bag.  Much lighter and convenient than 2x4s.  I simply staple cardboard to the upright furring strips and then attach my targets to the cardboard.  They are big enough to use standard IDPA targets or smaller.       http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac282/sbbean/Targetstand.jpg
  9. NO, really, we are friendly and here to help.  All you have to do is knock on anyone's door......probably best between 1am - 3am.  Be sure and have the camera ready.  Pretty sure you will see plenty of guns to take a picture of. :usa:   PS.   I bet my flash is bigger than your flash..........
  10. Try the J hook on a fury holster. It is very slim and can go OWB.
  11.   Why wait.........you can shoot without a permit
  12. Thanks for keeping the economy going..... :usa:
  13. OK, maybe time to eat a little crow?  I bashed my Sig 1911 pretty good.  On the advice of some on this forum sent my barrel to Tim Calhoun.  What a great guy!  Helped with getting my reloads more to spec.  But he also did a little throat work on the barrel.  This morning (yes, it was cold)  went through about 150 rounds of mixed brass, LRN,LSWC, JFP, and JRN without any problems.  So hopefully things stay this way, and am a big fan of Tim's.
  14.   And essentially a false report and no consequences for it according to the Child and Family Service.   Geez......that's OK, it's OK for the cops to lie and try an unlawful search.
  15. This lady is a threat to this country.       http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/03/08/sen-feinstein-makes-bizarre-claim-to-push-gun-control-at-hearing-its-legal-to-hunt-humans-with-high-capacity-magazines/
  16. I've posted previously about my Sig 1911 issues.  My gun works fine with FMJ bullets, factory or reloaded.  But a PIA with lead of any sort.  Great shooter and I really like it.........when it works.  I've shot hundreds if not a thousand rounds or more through it.  But, it seems this may be a throating issue.  Tim Calhoun has it, and from I understand is one of the best around.  I'm hoping it works, because I really like the gun as much as I hate it at times.  However, unless you are really a 1911 guy, which means they do have to be fiddled with some, clean, etc.  The MP or XD is a great choice.
  17. I have taken about a dozen people to Front Sight, near Las Vegas, for the 4 Day Defensive Handgun Course.  It is an excellent course whether a beginner or a seasoned shooter.  It is 4 full days, very structured.  You will shoot about 600 rounds.  I have taken the course 3 times, as well as other courses offered.  If you want to go, contact me for a course certificate or membership....don't pay the list price noted on the web site.  I have had classes with other trainers, some which  have been mentioned, and they are good as well, but IMO, for where you are in your shooting, you won't be sorry about the Front Sight course.
  18. Yes , failure to go into battery.  This happens much more frequently with Lead, RN or SWC,.  OAL is 1.260, and fit in case gauge...  These are my reloads and I have a some issues in my R1, and Colt CC, but less frequent.  But I have had it happen with FMJ FN 200 gr as well, but only in the Sig.  Shot in a match Sat. with no FTB, just didn't do to slidelock a few times.  But this was with FMJ RN, 4.7gr Bullseye.  It was cold, don't know if it was the mag(s), Wilsons, or maybe low temps and lighter load?  Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.
  19. I have the 1911 Sig Nitron. Yes it works with factory rounds, except for the times it won't go to slide lock with various mags, including Wilson. Like a previous poster, the chamber was reamed and polished on the first return to Sig. But some of my reloads with flat points FTB. Don't even try SWC or LRN, even though they ALL go through a chamber gauge. Sent it back again. Test fire was OK, sent it back with no additional work done. Now with close inspection with the slide open, the barrel, when pushed back meets flush with the feed ramp. From what I have read, all 1911 should have at least a 1/32 shelf at this junction. My guess is that this is the issue. I'm going to call Sig again, but to be honest, I've about had it for a gun that costs this much to have to break it in, send it back, etc. etc. MY Remington R1 performs circles around the Sig 1911.
  20. Well nothing like the voice of experience. I would use Them as my 2nd choice. Still got to say they are different for a reason though.
  21. Interesting. Looks like light strikes could be an issue. Also doesn't answer the "sealing" question . But desperate times . .......if that was all that was available I'd use them.
  22. Evan Todd has submitted a letter of petition to President BHO.  This was discussed on the Hannity radio show this evening.  If enough signitures are collected, it is my understanding he will need to answer the questions Mr. Todd has presented.  This is the link to participate:  https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/answer-point-point-columbine-survivor-evan-todds-open-letter-president-regarding-gun-control/SthSyKt8
  23. It is not the pressure at seating, it is the flattening at ignition which seals the pocket.  Simply do a little google search.  It isn't that you can't use them, but maybe they are different for a purpose.
