  2. Over a fire-code violation, of all things...
  3. Not really sure how practical such a thing would be, especially considering the holster problem... but I don't see anything which would preclude the use of a 9mm AR Pistol in the Open catagory of USPSA. I could certainly see at least a slight speed advantage on longer distance targets if the stockless buffer tube was used as a cheek-rest, of sorts, and ran like a short carbine. Anybody know?
  4. Welcome to TGO! My maternal Grandparents were Polish, Grandfather fought in WWII.
  5. When I get a 1911, I have decided that it will become a comp gun...
  6. Grab a plate and some chop-sticks, it's going fast...
  7. veery interesting... I must have done my renewal before they did that, because mine was back in just a few weeks earlier this year. Every actual bg check I've ever been subjected to took alot longer than that... I'm surprised that my initial permit only took 6 weeks, back when I first got it.
  8. The 24th/25th is Memorial Day weekend. We could turn this into a cookout & shoot event if we put some leg work into it, maybe even advertise and have some competitions and/or drawings for TGO hats/shirts...? Split the proceeds with the sponsoring range/club... Depends on how many people could actually come that weekend, but this general idea might be worth considering for a joint TGO meet somewhere around Nashville later this summer perhaps, and hold a 'First Annual TGO State Eat & Shoot'...
  9. That was what I figured... but that was the issue in Murfreesboro too. Cracker Barrel would be fine with me, I'd be driving an hour and a half or better to get there as it is, what's an extra ten minutes? Problem is, I'd get so full that I'll have to sit down to shoot.
  10. WHEN: Saturday, May 17th 2008. 11:30am - ?? WHAT: Middle Tennessee TGO Meet & Shoot WHERE: Spring Hill, TN (Owl Hollow Gun Club) We will all meet for lunch at 11:30, at Snappy Tomato in Spring Hill. (click here for map) After lunch we will adjourn to the Owl Hollow Gun Club for an afternoon of shooting fun. (click here for map) Cost to shoot is $5.00 per person. You must supply your own eye and ear protection, paper targets and target hanging materials. Handgun pits require clothes pins or tape to hang targets from a wire stretched across the pits. Rifle lanes require a heavy duty staple gun to fix your targets to the backer boards. Recommend that you bring insect repellent. Weather dependent, also bring sunscreen and/or shoes that you don't mind getting muddy and dirty. This is an OUTDOOR range. Directions To Owl Hollow Gun Club Range is located approximately 10 miles south of downtown Franklin, Tennessee in Williamson county. From I-65 South/North take the Peytonsville Road exit, #61; go West about .7 mile to the red light at South US 431 (Lewisburg Pike); turn South (towards Lewisburg) onto US 431 and go approximately 6.5 miles to Owl Hollow Road; turn west onto Owl Hollow Road; the range is located approximately 1.1 miles on the left side of the road. Approximate GPS Coordinates for those with GPS devices: Latitude 35.7606 N ; Longitude -86.8571 W
  11. Exactly... one would have to be totally in condition-white to be unaware of being approached like that. I'm sure the amount of reaction time one would be given is low, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the presentation of a weapon would make them think twice about what they were about to do (...right before a Gold-Dot cuts that thought short).
  12. Most data that I have seen indicates that the higher velocity .357sig cartridge actually penetrates slightly less gelatin than 9mm with similar bullet designs, because it expands so violently, but it penetrates hard barriers better because of the velocity.... which is consistent with the superior performance reported by agencies who use .357sig over 9mm or .40s&w.
  13. Lots of tricked out STIs and other double stack 1911s, like this: There were 2 XDs (one was mine), both performed well and I was told that the XD was becoming very popular as factory and aftermarket parts were becoming common... I think I saw somebody shooting with a Witness or or CZ (also tricked out). There was a stock Glock there, but nobody was using it. Actually, the only comment I heard regarding Glocks from anybody was that they "couldn't even use them as a hammer to nail the target stands together because they would miss the nails"... I thought that was a bit harsh, but their 1911s were having no problems (well, I did see one ftf due to a mangled reload). And there were alot of rounds put downrange that day, compared to the other games I've seen.
  14. I'd consider deep concealment to be a manner of carrying which is not likely to be discovered except by a metal detector or a very thorough frisking.
  15. Critical Incident Strategies in Smyrna offers a Shotgun Defense Course... I don't see one on their schedule in the very near future, but Todd@CIS could probably provide more info.
  16. I don't mind cleaning my wife's gun, she cleans nearly everything else.
  17. You can click on any member's username and the dropdown will contain an option to add them to your contact list.
  18. I've fired guns recently with Tru Glo sights, and with XS sights... I liked the XS Big Dot better (easier to pick up, and seemed more durable). I'll be getting XS sights for my XD-9, for gaming.
  19. This is one reason why I will only carry or keep for HD guns which I purchased from an FFL, preferably new.
  20. I 'played' USPSA yesterday... which means that this month I have played both games, in order to make a comparison. USPSA was far more fast-paced, challenging and fun. I liked it because the stages were set up to require problem solving in order to succeed, it wasn't simply some repetetive sequence which everyone had to do. It was obvious right away that the skill required to excel at USPSA is an order of magnitude higher than for IDPA. In IDPA and 3-gun I came in green and placed in the middle of the pack first time, in USPSA yesterday I was happy to be 3rd from the bottom out of 18 or so... and I feel really good about how I shot (plenty of points, just a slower time). It rained nearly the whole time, we were all soaking wet... but I've never had more fun shooting than I did yesterday. Marty and Rick got me set up and made sure I knew what was going on, they deserve my public thanks for making it an awesome experience for me. I got to see some excellent shooters and some sweet pistols (I want an Open gun now), can't wait for next month. I found my game.
  21. I think you're right. But even at that, in many movies the good guy still smokes (though not nearly as often as in the past), but they almost always have a gun (unless they're some kind of ******* superhero or something).
  22. This thread has run its course, it seems.
  23. Joe for President!
