  1. No he was arrested for being both ignorant and stupid, although the vice president is even worse. What a tool.
  2. They make great products, and I am glad to have supported them in the past, as well as more recently. We need more people with large snarkly amounts of fortitude like this. Gun owners are all too often conservative, which I think often equates to trying to keep to themselves instead of being active in the discussion. The time for that is past. I am actually considering leaving TN for one reason only - gun laws forbidding me from availing myself of the tool I deem necessary for my defense. Stop trying to tell me what I can do for myself and ignoring facts like rape happens once every 2 seconds in America and that active shooters shoot nearly 14 folks when law enforcement stops them, 2.7 when citizens confront them (often shooting themselves). This is about control, and I will not be controlled.   Sorry... Rant off. I will just lecture the cat for awhile now. She was staunchly anti gun when we moved in together. I think she is coming around now.
  3. Why was LAPD operating there anyway? That area has a great SWAT (San Bernadino which I probably spelled wrong).
  4. Wonderful policy. Putting their money where their mouth is, I approve.
  5. Dave I disagree on one point. Some of them fear him - or they wouldn't have blindly fired on two seperate cars matching the description of his vehicle.
  6. Awesome. Thanks Bert for the other thread too. I'll take a gander.
  7. Anyone have a good emergency radio they want to put out there to a fellow who is looking for one? I know very little about them, but want something that can be plugged in and works on batteries. I want to get one that can be around the house to get weather alerts and such.   Recommendations?
  8. Howdy all,   I have had Camelbaks for years but recently found something called Platypus. I was wondering does anyone have any input on bladders other than Camelbaks?
  9. Not only no but hell no. Not only do I find it insulting to have insurance to exercise my right, but I know it would simply be used to eliminate the right. Premiums would be above what I could pay. Just look at part of Justice Thomas' writing about gun control being about disarming minorities with fees and taxes, and I think the same thing with this one.
  10. So no one is willing to go try to push our side of things? To at least have a discussion?
  11. Not something I would suggest, but I have been through it a few times and still tested out as having no hearing loss (and it was still just as far above the norm as when I went into the military). You don't need to practice it, and you shouldn't.   Funny on me - after a few days of really hectic exercises and gunnery I parked next to a tank on the screen line thinking I would leave before they screened. Well everyone forgot I was there (I fell asleep for the first time in three days) and when I woke up I had paper all over the inside of the HMMWV from my binder, the overpressure of two rounds of main gun ammo having opened it up for me. Slept through that and 200 rounds of 7.62 fired from the coax inside the turret. My ears did not ring and I was fine.   Wow was I tired.
  12. Excellent, but I am appalled by his using the uniform at a political forum. That is, unless they changed it with the bestiality clause, against UCMJ and for bloody good reason.   Of course, soldiers never wear dress uniforms out anymore either which is nonsense. Its a COMBAT uniform so why should it be at a football field?   /rantoff.
  13. Which then gives power to the government (which will not always be friendly to 2A - See President Obama for clairification) and is why I am against such comments. It is for the people to decide if they even want to carry, and then for society to eventually codify clear reasons one cannot carry. Just because someone is a little "off" - well most of us here would be locked into a padded cell if some current governmental folks had their way.   Careful what you impose on yourselves.
  14. We started preparing months ago. In other words we already had extra food on hand, plenty of blanets, clothes, etc if the power goes off and such. The only thing I did special was take a quick once over through my bob to check on perishables and such because I did not know if I would have to take the hour and half drive to work the next morning, or if I would be stuck there for a day or so.   Preparation is a 100% commitment effort that takes place 100% of the time an inch at a time. Little things eventually add up to hey its going to snow, cool instead of OMG we are all going to die!   Might have something to do with being raised in the hills of West Virginia though...
  15. Well its a step. I am dissappointed to see they still do not have premption laws for college campuses though.
  16. Ok, I was not going to say anything because I will be shouted down, but late last year I made a promise to myself that I would no longer ignore a conversation because I thought I would lose. To do so give us the situation we find ourselves in now, with an uninformed population that uses the police as a weapon because they are scared by the sight of something.   A folk, no law was broken in the instances I have seen. If we do not stand up and come out of the closet we are going to become criminalized. Crime is a construct of society and does not necessarily follow intelligent or reasonable processes. I point you to the law in California where you cannot whistle at a whale as an example (maybe I am a dumb hick but I would not have thought that illegal until seeing the news story this week about it).   While I am not one to go out and open carry, many folks advocate doing so when I do something for recreation - hiking and backpacking. It is something I have considered. Perhaps instead of acting like those we criticize (think about the comments above that go on the feelings of the situation not the facts) we should structure our responses to say well that was unwise and I believe that it makes our lives harder as gun owners. It bothers me that we as a group are so divided – we have allowed anti-gunners to do that to us and it weakens us. Of course some outliers are going to be out there flapping, but hunters are unconcerned because they do not think their rights are at risk (and they are on the horizon too folks) and OC vs CC and on and on. We have compromised to much already. Let us compromise a little bit more down to a 10 round magazine then 8, then 5, then 1. It is a moral argument and one which must be challenged, stopped, and in some cases rolled back.   Now as to my feelings on this thread topic: if they were not breaking the law, then why not? Would it be that bad to have an organized gathering of gun owners who have their weapons with them?   No? Then consider what are USPCA and other shooting sports? What about when we gather for breakfast as a pro-gun club?   No it may have been unwise, but only because we have allowed our countrymen to become scared sheep. As gun owners we are supposed to be sheepdogs. Sheepdogs do not ridicule the sheep for being sheep - it is their nature.
  17. That was well worth the twenty some minutes. No stats, no yelling, but common sense.   Lord we need more.
  18. The Constitution really only protects you with the 4A against government actors, not citizens. I agree though, a tool.
  19. Welcome! I have not been up to shoot at ORSA lately in three gun, need to get my butt out there!
  20. Thanks for the heads up. I take it the 5.56 was 20 round boxes?
