I saw a Brendel P-10 (.380) today. Does that fit the category?

This is idiotic. Sounds like RangeUSA is trying to add to their bottom line.

I can cock the hammer on two of my carry guns. The P7M8 makes a little noise when you cock it and a big noise when you de-cock it (there are ways around that). Alas my little Kel-Tec BUG is DAO. Quiet unless you pull the trigger fully.

People keep saying it in forums. It was mentioned in this thread. Do you mean a micrometer? Don't need the hacksaw. I have one of these: You can set it up to read bottleneck brass thicknesses too. Actually I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find that the 357 sig brass is thicker than the 40 S&W. It would help with the unsupported chamber thingy. I'm just curious about official specifications. It seems like there should be some minimum wall thickness. Maybe you have to join SAAMI to see it?

In '68, I had a summer job as an Intel liaison. Long story.... I went to Vietnam in '69. Came home bandaged a bit. -
Tower, I was looking for a High Power when I bought my 92SB. My brother had a High Power and I thought it was a neat handgun. I still think so.

I have a friend with two cannons in his yard. Homeland Security occasionally comes by to see if they are still there. I think he hid them once just to irritate them. -
Which does he like? I like the other one.

Finishing high school. That was the year before the Gun Control Act. That was my reference. All this paperwork crap didn't exist then. You could order a gun by mail or at the hardware store without government interference. -

I wish this was 1967 and we wouldn't be having this conversation. -
I'm curious. I keep seeing that the 357 sig has a thicker case wall in the web than the 40 S&W. But I can't find any specification to that effect. Reloaders know that brass wall thickness can vary significantly from one brass manufacturer to another in the same caliber. A rule of thumb is that military brass is thicker than commercial brass. This thicker/thinner wall is of sufficient importance that it must be compensated for in the powder load for greatest accuracy from a given firearm. That's why I always use IMI brass in my 308s if I'm loading for accuracy, rather than mix the IMIs with Winchesters and just whatever else I have lying around. So far, I haven't been able to come up with specifications from SAAMI or anyone else that tells the minimum wall thickness. I know it has to exist, but I haven't found it. If anyone can point me to that information, I will be appreciative.

One reason to do personal buys is avoid traceability. -
I'm not of the view that there are any category killers. Yeah, there are guns that have been used for a long time and those that were innovative and an improvement when they came out. But those guns have been incrementally improved over time, often by other manufacturers. There is almost always something better available or just over the horizon. Would I go hunting with a 30-30 lever action? Well, yes I would. But I like to think of myself as a sportsman rather than a shooter. I think there are better deer rifles out there if all you want to do is kill a buck or doe. To be a sportsman, you have to give the animal a "sporting" chance. That means no attractants, stands, or super-rifles. But that's just me. If I was hungry, I'd take every advantage I could get.

These all sound like good reasons to not use this gadget. With most gun safeties, you can disengage them while the handgun is still in the holster if you like. With this, you have to draw the weapon first and then push the safety to firing condition. I'm not sure that's a good idea. But, like you Rabbi, I d rather not have a manual safety on my carry gun to even be concerned with.

I still like the dog idea.

They make those plugs with a couple of pins that allow you to take the handgun apart. I had one of those for the G23. Actually quite handy. But I don't know how many people feel comfortable disassembling their handgun past field stripping. Isn't that cavity in the Glock to attach a rifle stock?

Anyone want to start talking about this one? Are we going to keep going during the cold weather, or should we recess until spring? -
http://siderlock.com/eng/siderlock.html Anyone know anything about these? I know a guy on another forum that has tricked out his G20, including one of these safeties. He hasn't had it long, but he likes it so far.

A lot of sites for trainers hurt them. They come off looking like bloviaters. They think they are selling their skills, but instead they just end up looking pompous.

I think it is a good defense round, but I have a caveat. Over penetration is potentially a problem. I'd probably want a 40 S&W for normal urban carry, or a 9mm. I'm comfortable with both of those calibers. The 357 sig comes into its own when you want more penetration than the 9mm or 40 S&W and less bullet drop and more power at greater distances. Many Highway Patrols carry them because they are better penetrators of car glass than a 40 S&W and they are less likely to have collateral damage because they are less likely to fire in a crowd of people.

Good grief. I just don't understand instructors who can't instruct their students properly. You know, we might do well to put together a little TGO FAQ about Tennessee gun law. Have to include a disclaimer about not offering legal advice of course (that we actually would be doing). Anyway, it would be a really good idea to read the law yourself. Just about all of it is in TCA 39-17-xxxx. The exception I think of is about packing in a Wildlife Management Area. To get to the code: Go to http://www.michie.com/. Click on "TENNESSEE CODE" Click on "Title 39 Criminal Offenses" Click on "Chapter 17 Offenses Against Public Health, Safety and Welfare" Click on "Part 13 —Weapons" Click on each part, read them until you understand them.

I'm sometimes amused that folks who damn the high price of premium modern handguns gladly pay big bucks for a 1911. I like 1911s. I like to see what can be done with an old design and I like to tweak them myself. I've sometimes said that the 1911 is the quintessential American handgun and every American should own one at some time in his life. But I'm not going to use one for carry purposes.
-
I don't own one yet, but I'm planning on buying one as soon as I find a pistol in the caliber that I REALLY like. I may just end up buying a barrel for my USP 40.
-
Well, I really like the Rock Island too. But probably not as much as this guy. As far as the reliability of the military M1911s, I haven't witnessed that. They earned the name jam-o-matic. Pretty much all of the more modern 1911s are more reliable in my experience. That's not to say that the military pistols could not be made to function well. But you did have to be a bit more vigilant in getting the lubrication right.
