CCing when posting is not as TN says it should be.

Didn't the posting thing at BOT start with some permitted customer going ass-hole on them? -
Difference in National Park Rules?
Marswolf replied to waynesan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The Virginia Citizen's Defense League http://www.vcdl.org/ has been working to get the rules changed in National Parks to allow carry. Last news I saw on this goes back to March and isn't good. Go down to about the bottom of the VCDL page for info. I'll have to check this more, but I would think you could have a properly packed gun in your car under the "safe passage" provision of 18 USC 926A of the 1986 Firearms Owners' Protection Act. However, you could not stop to camp or lodge in the park. The Park Service may not nullify federal law. -

Some businesses have started changing the no gun "slash" signs out for one with proper wording. Bank of Tennessee did this. The Bristol Avoca Branch library has a legal sign these days. Someone may be going through educating the businesses and selling them legal posting signs. I think we need to loudly protest these signs and quit doing business with posting locations. -
Thanks for the listing, but I haven't figured out how to play the music yet. Looks like a massive copyright violation site to me. I do see a few selections I don't have in my collection.

I think this has pretty much been covered. Some advice is good, some not so good. I'll just reinforce the idea that you need to go out and actually shoot some handguns before deciding which to carry. My personal choice would be something small enough to fit in a pocket that is inherently safe, but you have to decide that. But go ahead and get your carry permit. You will have to have it to legally carry the gun while walking your dog. Most places will loan you a gun for the class. Just ask before you sign up. If they won't give you a loaner, just ask another instructor until you find one who will loan you a gun for the class.

East Tn TGO Members DECEMBER 2007 Meet
Marswolf replied to Marswolf's topic in Events and Gatherings
NOAA is predicting 14 inches of snow in the area around K-25 for December 15. Rest of the area will be T-shirt weather. -
Didn't Tennessee originally give you a permit to carry only the gun you qualified with (and only concealed)? That was back when you had to either be bonded or have insurance to pack. Can't remember which it was. I'll let you guys argue the courtroom contingencies. It sounds like opinions are pretty much split down the middle whether the "qualification" would be a plus or minus in a civil suit. But as far as becoming familiar with another handgun and showing you are competent with it, the carry permit qualifying standards are so lax as to be next to worthless.

This rumor goes around about once a month. Unless things have changed, some stores have, or will, quit selling guns and maybe ammo but others will continue sales. It seems to be a matter of profitability.

Could be. I hope so. I'd just want clarification.

I think that is great that Mt. Juliet does that class. But it says, "Students are issued certificates after successfully completing the course, which fulfills one of the requirements for receiving a handgun permit in the State of Tennessee." I take this to mean it does not fulfill all of the handgun carry permit requirements.

Time to decommission (un-sticky) this topic. As always, it will stay open for further comments. -
Flag symbolism Green: The riches of the soil Black: The African continent Yellow: The mineral riches White: The peace Red: The country’s struggle for independence The Emblem: Yellow star: The solidarity of the people and the socialistic beliefs of the country Book: Education Hoe: Peasants and agriculture AK-47: The nation’s determination to protect its freedom Just socialist chest thumping. Hey, what model is that hoe. Must be the best in the world to be on a flag!

The problem I see with this "qualification" of another handgun is that it is a joke. Getting a passing score to the level required to get a carry permit is so easy that it is unusual to have someone fail to qualify who has never shot a handgun prior to the class. Now, if someone want to take a real shooting class to fine tune their shooting skills, I'd go for that. But this add a gun thing to show you are good enough to get a permit with another gun is just a scam. Do you think any competent civil lawyer is going to let you get away with claiming that this sham qualification shows that you really know how to use that particular handgun?

I probably still have an old leftie adapter for the original M16s around here somewhere.

"B" - "G". Whichever fits. One of George Kelgren's handguns.

Yep, happy Thanksgiving to all of you. We used to gave a couple of dozen people in at our place to celebrate. Tomorrow we are just taking my mother-in-law out to lunch somewhere in Johnson City. I think Ryans has been mentioned. Oh yum, lots of cardboard tasting food.

All this assumes that Phantom6 can do it. He has control of the range. $10 range fee as I recall. -
trading handguns without a transfer
Marswolf replied to Mike.357's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This sounds like an excellent reason to not ask these questions. Don't ask - don't tell. As long as you do not know that the person you are selling to isn't prohibited, then you are within the law per ATF. Apart from that, if you want to sell me a gun, you better not ask me to sign something. Personal preference. -
The way I put it is that men are not like deer. Men generally give up before they need to. Absolutely correct. Glad to see you write that.

I think the term "scam" is quite appropriate. $30 extra? Hell, my class wasn't but $50. Maybe not in a league with some of the good trainers here on the board, but a hell of a lot more than I actually needed.
