  1. Hi folks, just thought I'd try to get a sense of how you all deal with your home defense weapon in the overnight hours-    I know some people who use a handgun will keep the firearm and a loaded magazine near them while sleeping, and they can just put the mag in and be good to go if something happens.   What if your home defense weapon of choice is a shotgun?  Can't really keep it in the safe overnight-  won't help if someone suddenly barges in the house.  By the same token, keeping the shotgun sitting out somewhere with a handful of shells next to it really seems like a hindrance as well-  you'd still have to load it with someone coming into (or already into) the house.   So would you keep it loaded overnight, then unload and stow it during the day?  I'm trying to figure out the happy balance between safety and accessability in a home defense situation...   Thanks for your thoughts-
  2. Sounds like something I would be interested in. Franklin would be very do-able for me-  Please let me know.
  3. Quoted from somewhere else:   'I think a lot of what was done was purely political in the same sense that has marked Obama's entire time in office. He put most of the responsibility on Congress. He will take credit if he gets his way, or beat Republicans with the failure stick if he doesn't. If you were Obama, would you rather have wins on individual issues, or would you rather use issues to destroy your opponents so you could eventually win everything?'
  4. Just heard the press conference will be around noon tomorrow, with the prez surrounded by children who wrote (whose parents probably wrote) him letters after Sandy Hook.
  5. I've been lurking on the NY gun forums for a while, keeping an eye on how this has been shaking out-   A lot of those guys are so freakin' mad right now, they don't know what to do with themselves.   Severeal threads I've seen where people basically said, "That's it- I'm moving".
  6. Whatever political capital he expends in this effort will be recouped if he passes immigration 'reform', in which he will instantly create millions of brand new democrats for life. I keep thinking of the Bugs Bunny cartoon-  Instant Martians- Just add water.     Then there's the mid-term elections, with Congress' ratings lower than a cockroach......
  7.   +1   This is what I'm really concerned about myself.
  8. Folks-   I'm becoming more and more interested in handloading and reloading my own ammo.  I have never done it before, and I have not bought any supplies or equipment as of yet.  However, it seems like it would really interest me, as well as make my shooting hobby more affordable in the long run.   I have read through a lot of threads in this section of the forums, and I have a book on the way that was suggested in one of the 'pinned' threads, ABCs of Reloading. I'm really looking forward to diving into that book.   I'm primarily interested in loading .223/5.56 as well as 9mm. That might expand to shotgun shells someday, but I'm more interested in the calibers mentioned.   I have no doubt that I'll get any supplies through David, as most of you do-   My main questions would be, what suggestions would you folks, who are experienced in the art, have for someone like me who is looking to get started?  Any golden nuggets of information I should keep in mind, or pitfalls to be aware of? Good brands of equipment vs. not so good (that may be subjective at least to a point)?  Anything I should know or do before I buy equipment?   Also, are there any handloading/reloading 'classes' around I might be able to attend?   I consider myself to be a reasonably bright person, and I'm confident that I'll be able to get the hang of loading safe and reliable rounds, but never having done it before, it is somewhat intimidating simply because there seems to be so much to know and learn-  almost like learning a foreign language.   Thanks folks-  lots of questions, I know, but I appreciate whatever responses you may have-
  9.   So, is it a manufacturing issue, or just a demand issue?
  10. But what about, 'until' it's found to be unconstitutional? And, 'supposed' to be?
  11. Good find, Il Duce. Ironic, eh? Have to reverse an EO by issuing another EO?

  13. I know that the first AWB made gun-folks buy more and that there was also a giant run on ammo. The first and second elections of our current CIC have done the same thing. Obviously, after the threats of more legislation coming down the pike have surfaced, the run is on again. I wonder...what you all think is the increase in % of either armed civilians, or more heavily armed previous owners? I tend to think that the administrations that have threatened 2A folks have unintentionally driven the number of weapons in this country sky high. I know that's an easy call to make, but I wonder... Don't they also anticipate this? Does it not occur to them that they are accomplishing the opposite of what they intend? Seems odd to me...       Edit- I dont know WTH happened with the quad post- obviously I entered one.....
  14. Weird, I didn't see any gangs that threaten the metro Nashville area on the list. I'm sure they'd jump in there too, if they were asked.

  16.   Betcha Geo. Washington thought something similar when faced with his rag-tag band of non-trained and ill-equipped 'ruffians' he was supposed to make into a continental army.       Ultimately, I think, you are right-  the fight to keep/restore our rights, Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc will be one of education, challenging questionable legislation, and the ballot box- and I don't think that makes anyone a 'sheep', just smart and thinking long-term. Not only should we direct our behavior and actions toward what we believe in, but also instill those same beliefs and values in our kids and grandkids. It's not a 2013 issue- it's a 'forever' issue, and we have a responsibility to make sure that we teach our families and children what is so special about this country, and why they should continue to fight for the ideals it was founded upon (even if the schools won't). Doing so will help the country live on and prosper far more effectively than other proposals floating around the internet.  Dead folks can't vote or pressure their representatives to 'represent'.   Just my humble opinion, anyway.
  17. I think your article was nicely done Brian.  Thanks for not making gun owners look like irrational, insane zealots.
  18. I agree with hlb above. Tiny show, everything was very overpriced. Very long line to get in. ARs going for $1800-3000, from what i could see. Ammo and mags were through the roof. Even .22 and 9mm was too high for me to even consider.
  19. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/marine-senator-won-give-guns-article-1.1233050     Senator Dianne Feinstein, I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government's right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma'am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one. I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America. I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man. I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public. We, the people, deserve better than you.   Edit:  Ooh-Rah! :usa:
