  1. I met the owner and his wife at one of the gun shows, they seemed like really nice people, may have to stop by and check them out. Good to know they have lots of AR parts, I also like to hold things in my hand and am reluctant to purchase online because of that so I end up not doing anything or paying twice what it's worth at Gnder mtn. Thanks for posting this.
  2. I could see the benefit for something like pig hunting. Last trip to Texas my uncle took me out and we saw tracks everywhere but never spotted them... thinking about the terrain there how long it took just to do one loop around the farm we could have used something like this and not waste time if they're not out you don't go out... 3. I bought my Hi Power at an auction, price seemed good until I had to add 200$ in between the taxes, background check and the fees the auction charged... Lesson learned.   Make sure you know those ahead of time and estimate what the OTD price will be before you start bidding...
  4. There is an article on the Farragutpress (Thursday February 6, 2014) I just got it in my mailbox, it's the first I hear about this: "Our goal is to find new people to network and to trade and create new friendships for hunting buddies..." "club meetings are set from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the second Monday of each month at Gander Mountain off Parkside Drive in Turkey Creek." "The inaugural gathering is Feb. 10 in the store's meeting room," Sounds pretty interesting, I may stop by and check it out. Anybody else here heard about this?
  5. I took some ammo into the Knoxville gun show along with a couple of pistols, the policeman put zip ties on my pistols and looked at the ammo and said "go on in" Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
  6. You should definitely check it out. I was there today competing for the first time and it was a blast! The stages were all different, testing your skill on all the different facets of practical pistol shooting, the atmosphere was fantastic, not uptight but with all the seriousness that the sport requires. Special thanks to dlmeadows for introducing me to everybody and patiently answering all my questions and letting me borrow some of his equipment. I'm definitely going back. 7. Thanks, I have been reading up on the rules and could use clarification on some things, it would also be great to practice with someone before the match. The only thing I can't make out from reading and watching the videos is what the flow or protocol is like at these matches, where to sign up, where to go first, how I know when it's my turn or when it's gonna be my turn... that's really whats scary to me so I'd be really nice to meet up with someone who s used to going and just follow them around the first time. 8. I live in Knoxville, but I go as far as Cookeville sometimes for work. Most of the time I'm around Harriman/Rockwood area.
  9. Thanks guys! Gallatin's kinda far for me but who knows, could make a trip out of it, my wife loves the shopping at Nashville. Don't think I could plan it for this weekend but maybe next one...
  10. Hadn't noticed that, thanks for pointing it out, it does seem that way, maybe I need to turn more or not spread out so much? It was a lot of fun, we were using a little timer app on the phone so we could time ourselves, shot for a couple hours and each maybe 100 rounds and had 10 times more fun that when we just take turns shooting 250 rounds at the side of the hill. Awesome. Thanks for your comments. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
  11. A friend of mine helped me set up a course on Sunday since we both had intended on going to the ORSA toys for tots match and had to miss it for family obligations...   <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/mhdbNwhPgpo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>   My friend had been to some competitions a long time ago I don't remember if he said he was into IDPA or USPSA but the targets said IDPA on them so that's what I'm calling it.   I know, I'm very slow, but I very much enjoyed it. I am hoping I can start going to some competitions soon.   Feel free to critisize my technique if you see anything.   If the embed thing does't work here is a link: http://youtu.be/mhdbNwhPgpo
  12. This^^^ this was sent in an email right after the law passed... "> To: UT Students > From: Dr. Maxine Thompson Davis, Dean of Students > Subject: Guns on Campus Policy Reminder > > As you may know, a new Tennessee law - often referred to as the "Guns in Trunks" law - went into effect on July 1, 2013. This note explains the impact of the law on UT students. > > In accordance with an opinion issued by the Tennessee attorney general on May 28, the Guns in Trunks law does not affect the university's Code of Conduct for students. > > The university's Code of Conduct prohibits students from "possessing, using, storing, or manufacturing any weapon or facsimile of a weapon on University-controlled property or in connection with a University-affiliated activity, unless authorized in writing by the Chief of Police or his designee." > > "Possession" also means having a firearm in one's personal vehicle. There is no exception to this university policy for a student with a handgun carry permit. > > For more information on this student policy, visit the Hilltopics student handbook page at http://dos.utk.edu/hilltopics/ and download the 2013-2014 issue of Hilltopics. An explanation of the policy is located on page 15. > > Penalties for violating the Code of Conduct range from warnings to probation, suspension, and dismissal from the university. More information on Code of Conduct penalties are on pages 18 and 19 of the Hilltopics student handbook. > > If you have questions, please contact the Dean of Students Office at 865-974-3179." So it's not illegal but can get you thrown out of school. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
  13. I've been to the John Sevier range a few times and didn't think it was bad at all for a state owned facility. I think it was maybe 5 bucks to get in. The bench rest range is just a bit old but the volunteers that work there are very nice people and do a good job of keeping everyone safe. They have trap and skeet and it's as good as any. The instructors I've met there were also very helpful and professional. The only thing bad about skeet and trap shooting there was if there was a bunch of people you had to wait a while to shoot again. It is closed on the first weekend. 14. Did you check any of these two listed in Region III? http://tn.gov/twra/firingranges.html I do not know of any others around here.
  15. I have bought a few guns from Gander Mountain, the only one I've regretted buying there because of the price was my AR (about 100$ more than at Academy) but at the time I bought it they were selling online (and at LGSs) for twice what I paid... I have gotten a couple very very good deals on 2 used guns I got there and have seen and regretted not buying many others. I missed out on a Browning Hi Power for 499 for example, stopped by and they had it, went in the next day to get it and it was gone. Also saw a Kimber once for 499 was also gone the next day. So it's been a matter of luck and doing your research (the 2 guns I got there were still there when I went back the next day after I'd looked up the prices and slept on it.) They price match but I don't know if that's for guns and ammo but I suppose so... but it's got to be in stock wherever you're buying from. Ammo has been also a hit and miss, but heck right now as hard as it is to find it at least they have some. I haven't bought much from them but when I'm looking if its 30 c/rd for 9mm I buy and they regularly have 9mm at that price. They get 22lr and it was 1$ more for a brick than what I paid at walmart, and minimags were .50 more. I live 5 minutes away so good or bad they're the closest gun store I have so I guess it makes them my LGS. 14-2 cambio y fuera
  16. I carried one of these for about 5 years: http://www.cutco.com/products/product.jsp?itemGroup=1886 It was very sharp and I used it a lot it never needed resharpened... not too big but not tiny. Locks open. Hadn't thought about it until I read your post. 14-2 cambio y fuera
  17. That just looks like propaganda to me. I couldn't imagine that lady shooting someone over a lawn ornament but their fliers are serving as intimidation. The fear of being shot will drive these people away from that neighborhood to one that looks less risky. That's one of the effects of an armed society. That's what happens in Texas in general thanks to their laws. And I bet few people actually get shot just trying to steal something. Less people try to... Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
  18. If the landing gear is not coming down for some reason they sometimes try maneuvers like that...
  19. I don't know if it will help but I just sent him and Lamar this note:   Dear Sir,   I am a nationalized US citizen, originally from Venezuela. I became a citizen after 5 years of being a resident through marriage and the green card process since my wife was a US Citizen.   I come from a large family and have 7 siblings. I petitioned for my mother and father to become green card residents after I became a Citizen and they have been residents since last year. Some of my brothers and sisters are legally here in the US and some still in Venezuela.   The ones that are here are trying through the already established channels to become residents, currently they hold visas through their employers. But they are LEGAL.   The ones that are still in Venezuela, are trying to find a legal way to come here. Coming here illegally has never been an option for them. And things in Venezuela no matter how hard you try to ignore the situation are pretty bad.   Anyone who considers breaking the law to enter a foreign country as an option no matter how dire their circumstances are should not be allowed a free pass for breaking those laws. That is not the type of citizen or resident we want here. They are the ones that are abusing the system and any new legislation to help them are just going to open new doors for them to keep abusing the system and keep adding to the already heavy burden we as taxpayers carry.   If you want to solve this problem amnesty is not the solution, it has always been part of the problem. The history of amnesty by the US towards illegal immigration has just encouraged people to keep coming illegally. I have met many who are here illegally and that is one common hope they have, kind of an expectation really, they believe they will be legalized some day. Don't do it now. Don't do it ever again and they will stop coming like that.   I hope you carefully measure your position on this immigration legislation because the repercussions of it will affect this country forever. I think it will cause a shift in demographics and ideologies so large that we will never be the same.   Sincerely,
  20. I got a Gerber gator I think is the name it was 24.99 plus tax. Cleared a path about 80 yards through the woods to get to my range and it did pretty well. The handle is comfortable and it came with a nylon sheath it was pretty sharp but got a few dings already and needs resharpened the whole opposite side is a saw. It'll do for me, I won't use it much more than I have already. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
  21. The point I was trying to make is that you should not immediately dismiss somebody's comments or warnings as a laughable matter, I find it hard to believe somebody would make this stuff up just for the heck of it but if they do I will find out for myself and make my own opinions, if I don't believe any of it and it happened to be true then it's my fault, if I don't do my research and go and get ready cause the sky's falling then it's my fault too. He's also not telling people to start stockpiling ammo and guns and get ready to fight the war, he's just telling people to write to their congressman and express concern, is that unreasonable?   Another favorite tactic of the communists and the fascists (they now call themselves socialists because it doesn't have such a negative connotation) has been to destroy the reputation of whoever makes a negative comment about them. We shouldn't do this to ourselves. I don't know which side the patches go on but I admire and respect anyone that has served and I will thank them for their service anytime I get the chance.   I don't fear the government is going to attack me either, I have a family and will avoid confrontation and run when I can, that is why I'm not in Venezuela anymore. If you stay home they will not attack you. They will be quick to put down the slightest bit of uprising though and that's the idea, once we all know what they're willing to do we will all stay home and keep going through the daily motions. Free to go about your own business as long as you let them keep going about their business. If that's your kind of freedom then you'd be happy here, in Zimbabwe, England or Venezuela.    I know that's not the kind of freedom I was seeking when I moved here with my family or when I decided I wanted to become a US Citizen.
  22. I have experienced the progressive underminings of citizens' rights by a tyranical government in my country of birth Venezuela.   That is how they started, undermining the value of the military and having them participate in civil tasks, making them loosen their deffese of the border with Colombia and ignore  FARC which is the narcogerrilla terrirosts, doing these things more and more of the true patriot military leaders either oppossed and quit or were kicked out or imprisoned.   At the same time these communists led by Chavez, taught and mentored by the Castros, began arming parallell groups of militias called "Circulos Bolivarianos" who were used to terrorize the citizenry. At the same time the national guard was being purged of any opposition and given more and more power to control internal ('domestic") uprisings... through all this they made it harder and harder for the common citizen to own guns finally banning gun ownership but for a select few with influence, a lot of money or connections with the goverment and always blaming the raising crime rate for said gun control.   Right now people are finally waking up and realizing the terrible damage Chaves's reign did and what his sucessors are doing, they're waking up because they are no longer blinded by the prescence of their hero. It is a critical time in the country after the current administration that took over with Chaves's death stole the elections and have been forcing all powers to legitimize it.    The problem is that the opposition and the citizens who now know they are the majority have no choice but to hold peaceful protests and ask for international intervention. At all these peaceful protests a few people die, more are wounded and many imprisoned, less and less people go now in fear of what happens. The "Circulos" "Tupamaros" and other armed groups terrorize and hurt people while the national guard who act like they are not there but they ride motorcicles carrying long guns in plain flags like they were flags. less and less people will protest in the street.   It is very unlikely the corrupt government will fall. 14 years going on 15... His first canpaign run was on CHANGE and the end of traditional corrupt government.    I could'nt yet vote and was telling my friends not to vote for him, his associations warned us he was a communist. They all laughed at me with similar insults as your tin hat joke.   This is serious.   I couldn't yet vote here when I was telling all my friends about BHObama's associations, I became a citizen and voted agaist him in the second election, it's all I have done until now I am writing this... I am convinced he read Chavez's history and is following his and Castro's manual...   This is serious.   Before dismissing it like it were a joke let's all just look at the facts and read the history. The communists are reading the history, they know how to make us not do anything until it is too late.
  23. Browning sold the BDA 380 that is also very similar to the 84B, I think they even can use the same magazines and holsters but the Beretta is open on the top of the slide and the Browning is not. I think they were made in the same factory. Gander Mountain has a bunch of the Berettas showing online on their used guns site from 350 to 500 ad theirs are usually high priced.   My dad had a Browning 380 and he liked it a lot said it always worked great. I never shot it so can't say. The good thing about these little pistols as a carry gun is the 13 round mag in such a compact package that's also nice to look at.
