  1. I carry a VP9 and like it a lot. Previously, I carried a Springfield XDm 3.8 Compact. It was an excellent gun but arthritis in my hands made it nearly impossible to rack the slide. For me, the advantage of the VP9 over the PPQ is in the "charging supports" at the rear of the slide. They make it unnecessary to have a firm grip on the slide in order to rack it. Mainly you just push against the small "ears" protruding from each side of the slide. It is very easy to do. This makes the VP9 ideal for anyone with limited hand strength. I also find the paddle magazine release on the VP9 much easier to use than the button release on the Springfield.
  2. Try Costco for glasses.  I wear progressive lenses and my last pair with new frames cost $190.
  3. Take a look at the blade-tech nano IWB holster.  It can be set for zero cant or for a small cant.  I have one that I wear for appendix carry at zero cant.  Neither the crossbreed nor the alien gear cloak tuck 3.0 (which is a very nice holster) can be adjusted to zero cant.     http://shop.blade-tech.com/index.php?cPath=1_13_16&osCsid=qjqmk3slj65oidal4um64tg9b4#.ViJHZelh3zI
  4. Browning BDA 45 (Sig p220 imported by Browning)
  5. Wilderness original instructor belt 5 stitch. I like it better than any of the leather belts I own.
  6. I always carry my Ruger LCP at home and elsewhere. The only exception would be places where it is illegal to do so. It doesn't make any sense not to carry it all the time since I can't predict when I might need it.
  7. I always carry at home. I'm old and slow and not confident that I could reach a gun somewhere else in the house quickly if I needed to.
  8. I took my HCP renewal application to the local Drivers License office two weeks ago. I was told it would be three months and maybe longer before I received my new permit because of the backlog. It came in the mail today.
  9. I am a "single issue" dues payer. When the NRA or any other organization that I support with my dues takes positions that I believe are not in the best interests of the country, I will take my money elsewhere. The NRA excuse that it is a second amendment only organization is just so much BS. Presumably, they would endorse a child molesting murderer who has an A+ rating on second amendment issues.
  10. The Conservative solution to Arizona's problem is to secure the border and deport the illegals. Unfortunately, what we will get is amnesty not deportation. Neither the democrats nor the republicans have the political balls to deport 10-15 million illegals and risk losing the votes of hispanics left behind.
  11. That's a hard one. Obama is a chronic liar who wouldn't know the truth if it bit him in the butt. I guess I believe Kyl.
  12. The Disclose Act will be voted on in the House tomorrow, June 23rd. Contact your congressman and ask them to vote against this first amendment killing bill. I just called Lincoln Davis' office and tried to leave a message. The mail boxes were full. If you can't leave a phone message then email.
  13. Democrats in the House have introduced "The Disclose Act" to reverse the Supreme Court's recent decision which found provisions of campaign finance reform to be unconstitutional because political speech was restricted. The NRA originally opposed the Disclose Act because it would limit their freedom of speech but later changed their position when the bill was amended to exempt the NRA from it's provisions. Their current position is that they will not be involved with the bill either in support or opposition (https://secure.nraila.org/Contact.aspx). I called NRA-ILA to express my displeasure. I was told that the NRA was a single issue organization and they would not get involved in 1st amendment issues. I pointed out that they had gotten involved when their 1st amendment rights were being restricted. What hypocrisy. As long as the NRA's freedom of speech is not restricted, to hell with the constitutional rights of everybody else. I have contributed to the NRA-ILA in the past but will not in the future. I will support organizations that defend the entire constitution and the constitutional rights of all Americans.
  14. This country does not have a shortage of illiterate, unskilled, non-english speaking labor. If there are jobs that are not being filled because Americans are not willing to do them, one of two things will happen. Wages will be raised to attract American workers or technology will be developed that will replace unskilled labor. We should encourage legal immigration of individuals who meet a need. That is, those who are skilled, educated and who want to be Americans.
  15. The so called "blue dog democrats" like Lincoln Davis simply can't be trusted to reflect the views of their constituents. In most cases, their first loyalty is to the democrat party. The democrat majorities in Congress have to go. We cannot leave the the democrats in control of the the House and Senate. They need to be replaced by true conservatives not RINO republicans like McCain and Graham. The Tea Partiers are already moving the republican party to the right. Don't get me wrong. I don't like the republican party any better than the democrats. If it wasn't for Bush and the republican controlled congress, we wouldn't have Obama and the Pelosi/Reid congress today. However, history suggests that a conservative third party that splits the republican vote would likely leave the democrats in power. I think it makes more sense for the Tea Partiers to work within the republican party to promote conservative candidates for congress and at the state level. If progressives could take over the democrat party, conservatives can take over the republican party and begin to undo the damage to our country caused by Obama, Pelosi and Reid.
  16. It's very clear by now that Congress and the administration don't give a damn what the people think. They will do what they want regardless. Unfortunately by the time the next elections take place, they will have done irreparable damage to our country. Even if there are major changes made in Congress in the next election, it will not lead to repeal of laws enacted by this Congress. At best, control of the House will change. Only 1/3 of the Senate is up for re-election next year. The Democrats will probably retain control of the Senate or at least have the 41+ votes needed to block any legislation they don't like. Finally, repeal of any of the damaging legislation would require Obama's signature or that his opponents have veto proof majorities in Congress. Who believes either of those things is going to happen. Since the politicians don't listen to their constituents and seemingly have no fear of the next election, other options should be considered. Non-violent civil disobedience may be a necessary next step. It was effective for the civil rights movement in the 1960's and could be effective now.
  17. I vote every time. If you don't vote, you have no business complaining later. I just wish I had better candidates to vote for.
  18. Springfield XD(m) 9mm in a Crossbreed SnapSlide. At home, concealment is not a concern. If I go out, a windbreaker covers well.
  19. Lincoln Davis is supposed to be one of the more conservative "blue dog" democrats. He is anything but. His position in the town hall meeting I attended and in response to my emails and calls has been consistently in support of the Pelosi health care plan. If you look at his voting record, he has supported Obama's ruinous spending bills. Pelosi gave him a pass on the health care reform bill to aid his re-election. His was not a vote of conviction. Davis needs to go in 2012. I hope to God the Republicans put up a strong conservative candidate that I can support.
  20. This seems comparable to Nancy Pelosi wanting to rename the "Public Option" in the health care reform bill. It didn't change any minds. We need to stand up and defend our 2nd amendment rights rather than trying to fool liberals by renaming assault rifles.
  21. Carrying my new Springfield XDm in a Crossbreed Supertuck.
  22. Some members seem to be saying that if a business has a "no firearms" sign that does not meet state requirements, the ban is not legally enforceable and it's ok to carry there. Let's take that logic to an extreme. Suppose the owner in an unposted or improperly posted business becomes aware that you are carrying, tells you that he/she doesn't want guns in the establishment, and asks you to leave. Are you going to say, "I won't leave until a sign meeting state standards is displayed." I don't think so. That would be stepping in it. It would be better to explain how to properly post the business, let the owner know that you and other permit holders will take their business elsewhere, and leave. We need to educate business owners, not to antagonize them and look like a bunch of gun nuts in the process.

Look for a gun store that has a range and guns to rent. For example in Knoxville, Coal Creek Armory lets you try all of their guns in a single caliber for a flat fee. There is probably something similar near you. My vote would be for a Ruger auto or single action. They are reliable, accurate and reasonably priced. Takedown for the Ruger autos is not as difficult as some of the other posts might lead you to believe. It's a small price to pay for their reliability.
  24. Unless you have a gun hidden in every room in your house, you are unlikely to have easy access to it when you need it. If self defense is your concern, consider carrying around the house, concealed if you prefer. At night, if you don't have children, put it on your nite stand.
  25. Damn near everything! However, If I avoid watching the news and listening to politicians my mood improves dramatically.
