  1. This reflects my opinion on so many things going on in government right now with our tax dollars. Even to what I've mentioned on situations like Haiti. I'm more than willing to donate what I can to others in times of need, but if our government decides to give my tax dollars to them without me having in say so in the matter then I feel I've done my part. The current situation of this country and it's national debt did not come about because the people aren't taxed enough, it came about because of irresponsible government spending. I wish there were more people speaking out on this subject.
  2. So if the kids are out of control, they should be home schooled by the parents so that they can discipline them. This basically goes back to my point that if a parent doesn't want their child disciplined, they shouldn't send them to public schools. By sending your child to school, you are in a way giving partial parental rights to the teachers, or at least that's how I think people should view it. The other option should be, that if a parent thinks they are the only ones allowed to discipline their child, then they should be required to attend school with him so they can be there in the event that the child acts up.
  3. Shocking isn't it. Given the amount of money involved, and the technology we have these days, it's going to take months before they can even stop the oil flow. The whole situation pushes me toward... I just keep thinking this is somehow based on the arguments over why we do not do more drilling here at home rather than buying our oil from overseas.
  4. Don't want to get into an argument on here over this kinda issue, but I have to agree with your stand on it. I understand a parent not wanting any harm to come to their children. However, if you leave your kids with a family member or other type of baby sitter, are they not allowed to discipline your child? By sending your kids to public school, in a way it means that you are trusting the teachers to help raise your kids. With this in mind, if you spank your kids at home, then you should allow and trust the teachers enough to allow them to be spanked as well. If you can not trust the teachers to discipline them in the same way that you would, then you should pull your kids from that school and have them home schooled. I also know that alot of parents don't spank their kids anymore. Things like grounding them from video games for a week, or not going out with their friends, DO work at home. However, these are not punishments that can realistically be used in schools. On topic of the situation at hand though, I think the actual event in question is getting lost in the thread here. The teacher regularly puts his hand on people's necks. I know several people who do this, even had teachers in school who did this. Pretty much every time, even if I was doing something wrong, when this was done it was done in a joking manner of sorts. This to me is kinda obvious in this case, as everyone was smiling at the time. So to him this situation started out as a fairly easy going situation, but the students chose to change it around on him in order to get him in trouble. I shall leave now, as I do not have children and my opinion is based solely on my experiences from school and how it taught me important lessons in life and made me a better person in the long run.
  5. I agree. I can relate to the situation of the OP as I have a good friend who's in this situation. He's been out of prison for several years now, and has completely turned his life around and devoted all of his time toward family and work. Out of all the friends I have, he is the most honest and hard working. Sadly though, he is one of the very very few felons that has or will turn his life around in such a way, which is why I don't see the laws where this is concerned ever being changed. A large portion of criminals are likely to go back to the same criminal lifestyle after their release, or at the very least they have a higher possibility of going back to it than those that have never broken any laws, and any criminal (especially where drugs are related) has a high possibility of violent crimes at some point.
  6. Always good to see folks that take note to the skill of the individuals in a band, more-so than the entire band or type of music they're playing. Most folks I talk to seem to miss these kinda details on the subject. Like I say, not to take away from some of the lyrics in the Poison songs, but it wasn't the lyrics, or the hair styles, that drew me to their music, it was stricly C.C.'s skills. Personally I don't care if it's a guitar or the bagpipes, if it's played really well I can appreciate it and enjoy listening to it.
  7. Funny how a President can get blamed for causing a natural disaster like Katrina, but I don't here any reports of people blaming the current President for a man made disaster. Weird.
  8. It's probably because Michael Jackson was white.
  9. I guess when you put it that way, the more I think back, the first time I actually really started to listen to the music was in the 80's. As bad as I hate to admit it, the guitar play in Poison - Nothin But A Good Time, was the first song that ever got me really interested in what was being played. It's kinda hard to determine though because I'm trying to seperate the music from lyrics. That song got me interested in the music, where I think Metallica - One is the song that made me start paying attention to lyrics a little more and realize that songs really told a story. Coming from a small country town, paying more attention to lyrics and what story was being told is what lead me back to country music. Several of the other songs I got more into later on in life and got away from the 80's hair band type, but thinking back I really don't remember any certain song that sticks out as much as Nothin But A Good Time as far as getting me interested in music.
  10. Growing up I was influenced by everyone around me. From what my dad always listened to I got into country and classic rock early on. As I got older, I hung on to the older classic rock, but also added in a little of the newer stuff. Sad thing was that this was in the 80's and as far as my music taste went at the time there wasn't much being offered. Got into big into Metallica around the time of And Justice For All and black, and I'm sure my older sister and her friends played a big role in getting me into that. Since I also still liked the older rock, I also got into their earlier albums alot. It was around this time that I got my first guitar, and learning to play gave me much more appreciation for the great musicians, no matter what instrument they played. My dad always tried to be interested in whatever I was interested in, so he ended up getting him a guitar as well, but never could get into Metallica, so with us playing together I ended up drifting back to more of the classic rock that he listened to in the 70's. Once I got out of school though I had a major turn around from all of that, and ended up going back to the country music almost 100%. Stayed that way for a while, but once I got divorced I started partying alot, and ended up more into rap/hip hop, whatever they call club music these days. Now I pretty much switch between stations, and if it's a good song I listen to it no matter what type of music it is. It's sad that I've gotten older though, and just can't hardly listen to much of the rock that I use to listen to, but no matter what for some reason I've never gotten tired of anything Ozzy sings.
  11. Just switched it over there, although it's a tough choice because First Blood is also on again.
  12. Actually he doesn't, but... He is ordering the people included in that statement to do so, so I would take that to mean that they have to. Just throwing that out there, as even though I do not agree with Obama's act of breaking the laws in this case I'm currently not wearing underwear that could get in a wad over this one.
  13. Silver hat and all, in a way I have to agree with you. We've had the argument going over why we don't do more drilling here at home instead of getting oil elsewhere. Seems like this would give them a good example of why we shouldn't drill more here, and also a good reason for gas prices to go up again. Just a random thought though, either way I feel for all the people in this area. I still find it hard to believe, with as much as oil is worth, why they haven't come up with a better method to contain and pull the oil back out of the water in this type of situation.
  14. Very sorry for your loss. I wish a couple of my granddad's were still around.
  15. Most likely it was a setup, and the kids were just looking for a chance to cost him his job because he was trying to make them learn something so they could get a job in the future, which most likely none of them plan to do. I don't mean that because of race either, it's just the general way of thinking of alot of kids these days from what I've seen. When I was a kid, we dreamed of growing up to become doctors, lawyers, astronauts, things like that. Kids these days seem to dream of growing up to get on welfare or disability, so they do not approve of a teacher who tries to make them learn and follow rules. I've been grabbed by teachers in a similar manner before, and usually when they did this it meant that I was doing something I shouldn't have been doing, but they did it in a semi-joking manner as he seemed to be doing in this case. Others have whipped me with rubber paddles, wooden paddles, thrown chairs at me, coffee cups, several other things here and there. Every case was my fault for disobeying simple rules, and the extreme cases were completely provoked by ME, so I never even considered taking any action against them for these things. I can look back on all of it now with them and laugh about it, because they know they were able to teach me lessons about life that I was sometimes to hard headed to try to learn. Things like this cause the schools to lose what may be a good teacher (I don't know because I don't know him personally), and also take just a little more away from other teachers ability to get students to learn right from wrong. Whether people realize it or not, this is part of why the quality of teachers keeps dropping more and more in the public school system. Teachers these days don't even remember their student's names, even though they have them in class every day.
  16. You're right as well. It always comes down to what SHOULD happen, and what WILL happen being the complete opposite.
  17. I agree. If people saw how I got treated by some of the teachers in school, they would probably say I was regularly tortured and/or beaten. My opinion is that I got what I deserved, and each time I did something wrong I knew what I was going to get as punishment. Believe it or not, this taught me the fact that there are consequences for my actions, and that I should have respect for others:stunned:. Personally I think that's one fairly important thing to learn for the future, and it's one that teachers aren't allowed to teach anymore.
  18. While I do realize that part of the issue is the difference between state and federal, the fact that people are protesting this a law that makes it a crime to do something illegal simply baffles me.
  19. X2 IMO what AZ as a state is doing with this could finally be the start to what the federal government should have been doing all along. Once the places that are against what AZ is doing become overrun with illegals, they will eventually follow suit with laws that should already be enforced.
  20. This is correct as I learned a couple years back. Three illegal immigrants hit a truck while backing out of a parking lot at a local restaurant. The owner of the truck they hit just happened to see it, and came out to confront them. When he did this, they took off, and he jumped in his truck and went after them. They went down the street and turned up into another parking lot, and hit another car that my friend's g/f was sitting in while waiting for him to get off work. They hit the car with enough speed to spin it around sideways and shove it up on the sidewalk where my friend worked. They then tried to get out and run, but my friend caught all three of them and made them wait for a LEO to get there. None of the three had any identification, and the LEO was explaining how he couldn't arrest them, and it wouldn't do any good for immigration to be called because they would just be back here in a week anyway. So after sitting on the sidewalk for about 30 minutes until everything was figured out, the three illegals were allowed to leave. The owner of the truck that they originally hit did not stop at this scene, and the bad part about it is that if he had he could have been held responsible for the accident since he was an American. Only on rare occasions do they have to obey any of our laws.
  21. No offense to anyone in Tracy City, as I have several friends from there......but........X2
  22. I never know if you're trying to be funny or not, but I at that. Same reasons that the others have said, I would go with the Pygmy. I don't have direct experience with either of these, but I've carried several types of backpacks and bags and I always get frustrated with ones that are single shoulder.
  23. Might not be as big of a pipe dream as you think, although it most likely wont happen in every state. Honestly though, if all states can't come together to enforce a government law, then I think it just puts us that much closer to our nation being divided.
  24. I agree. It's good for them to take a firm stand now, before Obama starts in with his immigration reform plans. I can also say that I know several legal US citizens who are from Mexico, and they all agree that if you can't learn the language of this country then you shouldn't be here.
