  1. It's possible that the drought may be over soon, but I wonder where these experts could possibly be getting this information from.......
  2. Not sure which model of S&W knife I have in there, but I've got one that was given to me years ago that I use to carry when I worked in the warehouse. Out of all the knives that I wore out during that time, I never wore out the S&W. Cut boxes every single day, and used the blade to pull the big staples out of alot of those, and the blade never seemed to dull. Used it as a pry bar here and there, and never bent or broke the blade. It's one of my cheapest, and if I had to say which one was the best it's probably the one I would pick.
  3. Yeah, like I said I'm not sure how different insurance companies define their coverage, but it's definately worth talking to them about just to see what situations you're covered for.
  4. I'm not 100% sure how all of the insurance companies are, but it should also be noted that flood insurance can be good for situations other than these kind as well. I've got a friend who had a major water leak in his finished basement while they were out of town, and it completely ruined the walls and flooring, not to mention furniture and everything else in their basement. If I remember right alot of regular homeowners insurance wont cover this type of flooding either.
  5. I can see what you mean. You would think they would be going over a list of road closures instead of just talking about areas that people already know are flooded, or areas where no one has to be driving through today anyway. Lack of decent news coverage is why some of these people end up stranded in these high water areas before they even realize what's going on. Sometimes I think the media wants this though, so that they have a bigger news story to report on. "This area is about to be under water, but let's wait until some people get stranded in the middle of it and need to be rescued before we give our report."
  6. Yeah, I found alot that explained why this theory was inaccurate. It does make you think though, so I hope they can track down the source of the explosion soon to let us know the truth about what happened, as there is alot of room for on this one.
  7. My thoughts exactly, except I personally think he should die a slow, painful death while everyone watches on the news and youtube. What pisses me off about this country, is that if and when this guy gets caught there will be people protesting if he isn't treated in a fair and humane way. I understand that there are cases where they may catch the wrong guy in a situation like this, but if they catch him and prove that it's him, he should be executed.
  8. Not sure how much that would matter, as there are very few valves made in the US anymore. There's a good possibility that this specific type of valve is only made overseas.
  9. X2 on all of that, especially on the holy ! part.
  10. Saw video of this rescue last night before I went to bed. They had to throw a rope to the guy in that red truck, which if I remember right from the TDOT camera that is one of the trucks that the portable classroom floated into. He could have gotten out at that time, because at that time the rescue workers were able to walk in the land where the boat is, and they were walking back and forth to see if anyone needed help. Maybe it's just me, but if a building floats into my truck, I think that's when I would get out of the area. News said the current was so strong they had to run the motor almost full throttle to be able to stay up against that wall. As far as them taking the TDOT camera down, I'm pretty sure the last footage I saw on there must have been when they discovered that someone had drowned. There were several that had gone back out into the road there even though the lane was becoming really flooded, and you could tell they were really struggling with something and trying to move quickly. I think one of the rescue workers tried to go back across to tell the people on the other side to have the feed cut. Very sad to watch this kinda situation live like that.
  11. That was what I was thinking. Good ol mother nature always has her way of cleaning up our messes, even if means creating some smaller messes like we have in this area right now.
  12. Yeah I'm hearing more about the latest now. I know there are some crazy folks driving through high water that they shouldn't be in, but in alot of these cases these folks were caught off guard as the water came up quickly, and others may have been trying to get out of flooded areas or trying to get home to make sure their loved ones were safe. I was headed to my dad's a little bit ago, and thought everything would be clear his way, but still ended up having to turn back because the road he lives one was under water, and my rule is no matter what, if I can't see the road, I don't drive through it. I've never been one to drive through flood waters.
  13. On another note, all this flooding we're currently getting is going to eventually flow into the Mississippi and out into the gulf. How bad, if at all, will all of this affect the efforts going on down there right now? Or is all this rain mother nature's way of trying to keep that oil away from land down that way? Kinda far fetched thought, but there sure has been more rain falling out there than I've ever seen in some of these areas.
  14. It's sad that this is what they always in a way seem to be hoping for in these situations. The way channel 5 first announced it kinda bothered me as well. Can't remember the exact quote, but it was something like "Breaking news, we have word that someone has died in the flooding, and also the Jimmy Buffet concert will go on tonight". I understand that people like Jimmy Buffet, but I don't think that kinda announcement should be made in the same breaking news cast as someone losing their life. I also saw earlier footage of someone that was clinging on to a telephone pole and was eventually swept away before rescue workers could get to the area, and as of when I left earlier they still hadn't found him. I'll be praying for everyone in these situations, as this flooding will be going on for quite a while, not to mention all the cleanup and rebuilding once the waters go down.
  15. Last feed I saw from that particular spot showed some rescue people, and it was unclear if they were trying to get someone back across that they had rescued or what, but the water had pretty much consumed I24 at that point over the concrete walls. They didn't put that location back up after that, and mentioned it had been taken down.
  16. I was watching that on 2. It was a portable classroom from one of the schools that washed onto I24, and then washed down 24 into some trucks, and then the water destroyed it. They're re-showing it every now and then, but that particular camera has now been taken down I guess because the water finally got so high there.
  17. Thank goodness no one comes down my driveway unless they have definate business here, such as the UPS man or the mail man. I'm always what may be considered over paranoid of strangers on my property, so if one guy was obviously trying to distract me while the other was looking around alot, most likely someone would have been injured. As far as sales like this, I only occasionally buy from my nephews or other kids that I know that are doing fund raisers for schools. Other than that, salesmen or scam artists better keep their behinds off my property.
  18. I'm either really uneducated, or it's just that it's 3:30 in the morning and I should be sleeping so I am missing something here, but how does this plan have anything to do with immigration. Those that are here legally, and work here legally, will be the only ones that get it. Those that are here illegally, and work here illegally, will continue to do so without any national ID card. Contractors who hire these illegals are still going to hire them, and they're not going to spend extra money to get a scanner, or take the extra time to ask them if they have their ID card. I think I'm gonna go to bed and read this again sometime tomorrow. Maybe then I can figure out how this will help immigration issues at all.
  19. I do kinda feel bad for the guy. With his fortune and fame, same as anyone in his situation, women throw themselves at him on a regular basis. I try to be a faithful guy, but theres only so many women that a man can fight off before he just gets tired of fighting them, so he starts sleeping with them. Does get on my nevers that all the stars get to use the whole "sex addict" thing in these situations which causes part of their fans to feel really sorry for them. I don't buy into that, I just feel sorry that everything is going down hill for him over things that I myself would probably be doing if I were in his situation. Other than that useless rambling, I couldn't really care less.
  20. I didn't realize it, but it's good to know that the courts have ruled in such a way, as this goes along with my opinion on that part of it. Maybe they should come up with a waiver for those parents that will allow their kids to get a paddling when that type of discipline is needed. Teachers could check a kids file, and if the parents have signed off on it they could then paddle them and everyone could get on with class as normal. For those that refused to sign the waiver allowing the teachers to give proper discipline, the teachers could kick them out the front door and notify their parents that they needed to come pick their kid up out by the street. It just goes to show that the parent/teacher relationships are nothing like they were when I was in school. My parents knew each of my teachers, and trusted them to discipline me correctly when I got out of hand. This is kinda hard to believe for me, because given the amount of time that kids are in school, teachers are in a way like babysitters. How many people would hire a babysitter that they didn't know and trust? If and when I have kids, if I don't trust their teachers enough to do the right things for my kids, then I will just have to do the schooling myself so that I can discipline them.
  21. It's not really catastrophic to us, because the owner of my company along with our accountant are fairly smart where business is concerned. They knew this was coming, and planned accordingly while business was good. Instead of blowing all the large amounts of profit in that time, they used it to eliminate the majority of our overhead. There was a time when we needed at least $1.5 a year in sales to operate, were in good enough shape now to operate on 1/3 of that for a fairly long period of time if it comes to that.
  22. It could also be noted that even in an economy that was going downhill before Obama was elected, we had $ numbers in the millions right before that election, and after he was elected those numbers are lucky to reach even 1 mil.
  23. I deal mostly with chemical plants all over the country. There's actually good activity from alot of them right now, even though it would seem to most that that type of industry is leaving the country. But I see it every day, they get a big project in the works that could even bring new jobs to their areas, but end up putting it on hold for months in order to see what will happen next in government.
  24. I didn't read it wrong, I simply have a different take on it than what you were meaning. By this you're saying that it's not a teacher's job to teach the kids to behave. I was always under the impression that this was exactly what part of the teacher's job was, especially in situations where the parents do not contribute their part in a childs learning. Schools can't simply send every child home every time they act up. If that were the case, half the people I went to school with would have never gone to school. They have got to be allowed to use some type of discipline in order to teach the kids that there are consequences for their actions. This is most especially the case when the parents can't do their job at home. For the future of the entire population, if a parent isn't teaching them important life lessons, then it should be a definate law that teachers in schools should be allowed to do so. And don't get me wrong, like I say I agree with your opinion of not wanting your child to be harmed. However, if you discipline them at home by spanking them, then you've obviously come to the conclusion that this type of discipline is the only one they respond to. If that's the case, and you agree that schools should be allowed to discipline your kids, then how would you suggest they do so?
  25. X2 On that one. I know from my point of view from the type of business I'm in, it seems like every time he opens his mouth all of my customers put their projects on hold.
