I don't see how serving justice is going down the wrong road. You have more knowledge on alot of issues than I have, so you tell me, when you know someone is guilty and have proof and an admission of guilt, what exactly is the point of spending tax dollars to have a trial? What in your opinion do you think they could possibly prove that should spare him from execution? Are you saying you think maybe he didn't intend to kill innocent people by parking a car bomb where he did?

Some of those that alot of people wouldn't really think about, like the boresnake and CLP, but if you have to wade through muddy water or any number of other situations where you would need to clean your firearm before you use it, I don't think just digging out the mud with a stick will be good enough. A good water filter setup would definately be one of my concerns. If you're having to abandon your vehicle, especially in a case such as flooding, you may come to a spot where you can't go any further if the water is all around you, and just have to settle in on the highest ground you can find. In this case, you will definately run out of drinking water, as flood waters will definately need to be filtered before drinking. Also those water tight boxes at Wally World come in handy for storing things that you don't want to get wet. Items in your bag that don't need to get wet can be kept in them, and then when you have to head out you can put your wallet and phone or whatever in there as well.

Honestly I go through this type of week on a regular basis. Sometimes it seems like everyone around me is falling apart, and everyone looks to me for answers for some unknown reason.:screwy:I don't want to get into any religious discussions on who believes in what, but I know that in times like these I sometimes get to a point where I feel like I can't breathe from everything going on around me. When I finally get to the point where I just make my mind up to put everything in God's hands, I can usually breathe again instantly and it doesn't take long before everyone is doing good around me again.

Not sure how this thread got on the subjects of cop bashing, drug dealers, and all the other arguments going on, but I'm with Mike in that I would like to see a pic of the helmet. Any LEO that has dealt with motorcycle riders before can usually tell which helmets are legal and which ones are not. Also keep in mind that lots of LEO's ride themselves, so that also helps them in the matter, so it's highly likely that they can tell when they see a helmet whether it's approved or not. Also, did you purchase this helmet new, and if so does it have the DOT tag on the inside like what has also been mentioned somewhere in this lost thread.

I agree, as do some Mexican friends of mine. I've mentioned my buddies that came here legally from Mexico, learned the language, and are legally employed, and they make it a point to NOT celebrate Cinco de Mayo. They also don't like seeing the Mexican flag being flown here on US soil.

I agree. I really don't want to even hear about this guy's "rights" to a fair trial, or humane treatment . He fully intended to kill Americans, so it should be safe to say that he had NO rights. He's been caught, all the evidence is in place, and he's admitted to doing it. From what I've heard on the news they've already gotten alot of information out of him, so I'm now wondering why he hasn't already been executed. Those same people that he tried to kill, are having to pay for 3 meals a day for him as we speak.

Just mention that you're on TGO and I wont eat you, and hopefully I wont have to eat anyone that I know. Strangers on the other hand are fair game, and as far as hunting tactics I've mentioned hunting over a baited area before as far as people go. Since there will be people stealing livestock and crops, simply keep one good cow and tie it up out in a field. When people come to steal it, you can save the cow and have the people for dinner. I really worry that I may be thinking about this stuff too much.

Yup, if you've ever seen any of my other SHTF posts you would know that people are on my menu as well once the animal population is gone. Not saying I wouldn't eat a possum, I just really hate to think of having to do it. Hopefully armadillos will completely take over here by then. I'd rather eat them if that's what it comes down to.

What is your objective in a self-defense shooting?
MCSCOTT replied to daddyo's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Since the question is about what the intent is in a self defense shooting, instead of what the intent is when pulling the weapon, then I think most people are going to shoot to kill. However, we're not murderers here, so I think most would also stop firing if they were to miss or only wound causing the BG to give up, so to me that would mean the actual intent is to simply eliminate the threat. -
Don't know if I can ever bring myself to eat a possum. The rest I already hunt and eat regularly. Turkeys and doves, and other small wildlife will also be on the menu. The best thing that will ease some of the time that goes into hunting in a SHTF situation is that we most likely wont have to follow any rules and regulations, but as you mentioned hunting larger animals like deer will be an extreme waste of meat in most situations. The only time we should be hunting the larger animals would be if we are feeding several people at once, or in the winter where it will be easier to preserve the meat if we have no power.

This is kinda the thing I've been putting together ever since I got my truck last year. It's an extended cab truck with compartments under those uncomfortable back seat pad things, and I've been putting general things that I would need in certain situations in those compartments.

Not sure how the Peacock Bass fight vs some of the others, but I've got a largemouth hanging on the wall at home that was close to 8lbs that I landed on an ultralight setup years ago. To make matters worse, I was using a Rebel Teeny Wee Crawfish, and if you know the one I'm talking about you know that the hooks on those are tiny and can easily bend or just pull out of bigger fish. Didn't even have a net with us, so I had to fight him for a while. I've always loved fishing with ultralight equipment. Current setup is several years old, and it's just a Mitchell Spincast reel (not sure which exact one) on a Berkley rod. I've always been partial to the spincast reels, and have several others. Can't even remember what my larger catch anything setups are because most of the time my go-to rod is that ultralight, unless I'm catfishing. The catfish setup takes a beating, so I usually go fairly cheap with those since they will have to be replaced every year or two anyway. It's gettin time for an upgrade on all of them though, and I'm leaning toward the Pflueger brand this time around.

All this flooding let me know that the location I normally plan to head to will be out of the question, unless I get there before things start getting bad. For this situation my home seemed to be the best location, because other than the rain that was falling, I only had the normal run off from the yard and didn't see anything else that would look like flooding around the house. Sure would have been nice to spend the weekend at my safe location though, because after Saturday night there was no way in and no way out. I bet it would have been nice and peaceful knowing that no one could get to where I was.

I have two different boxes I use when fishing in smaller creeks, so that there's not much of a loss if I dumped one out like that. My main box that I take to the lakes is a different story. If I dumped that thing I would lose well over $1k worth of stuff, and would most likely sit down and cry until someone came to help get me back to the truck.

Very sad. Heck I was being taught about gun safety since back before I can even remember, and if and when I have kids they will be taught the same way. Too many parents these days try to just keep their kids away from firearms rather than teaching them how to be safe with them. Heck, alot of teen drivers get injured or worse in car accidents every year, but you don't see parents trying to keep them away from automobiles. Instead they try to teach them how to safely operate them.

I'm sure alot of it would be ok, but personally I wouldn't take chances on any ammo. I would definately buy the flood damaged firearms though but would make sure to go completely through everything on the gun as soon as I got it home. They've really got a ton of stuff in there that I would be interested in if they had a flood damage sale, because things like camo and other hunting items, fishing equipment and all that good stuff, are items that could easily be cleaned up. I doubt they will have any such sale though. There are too many liabilities with some of the items such as the firearms, and several different ways people try to screw stores over in these kinda situations. I think it should be noted that as far as I know there has been very little looting in this disaster. Right now there are alot of big money items out there in the water, and alot of folks running around with boats that could load up, but from what I've seen I've only heard of one or two cases of looting. This, along with the combined efforts of tons of folks that own boats, and also the ones that don't, volunteering their services, really says alot about the type of people we are here in Tennessee.

It is that kind of manager that causes people to get killed in these situations. They make their employees think that they have no choice but to find a way to get to work, which causes people to take chances that they shouldn't be faced with having to take. Personally I would submerge his head in the toilet there where you work for at least a minute or two to let him know what you could have been faced with had you tried to cross flooded roads.

I hate that worse than anything. What I also hate is when I open the bottom section, without latching the top section. I've tried several different tackle boxes and bags, usually one or two new ones every year, and I've yet to find one that will stay organized.

This is the issue that I fear with upcoming elections. Everyone is going to be so quick to vote the Democrats out of office, that I worry if they'll really look at what each individual candidate stands for. Republican candidates know this as well, so I worry about their motives when election time comes. This is always the case with elections though, which is why I think we should just cut their pay rate down so much that the only ones that would want political jobs would be the ones that truely want to devote their time to helping the country.

X2 on the Gerber brand for getting your money's worth. I've had the same one in my hunting backpack for about 15 years now, even used it some at home pruning trees from my driveway area when I couldn't find anything else to use, and the thing still cuts like brand new. I use it pretty much every year when I go hunting.
-
X2. There will definately be water in the engine and transmission, axles are also another concern that alot of folks sometimes for get about, because water in the axles will blow out the axle seals. Interior and all electronics would need to be replaced, because these things can trap moisture that may not show any problems until later on after you've got it back up and running.

No chance of damage here much with where my house sits, but my sister has finally had to get as much of their stuff up in the attic as they could, and her husband and my two nephews are now on their way to my house. I saw the creek earlier that runs in front of their house, so I hate to see how things are going to be when they get back. There wasn't much flooding in this area yesterday, all of what we're getting now is from today.
-
Yup. Seems like now they keep talking like the rain is over with as well, but it's still pouring down here. My sister is having to get their stuff together and head to my house now from Columbia, and they had almost waited too long to be able to get out of their house.

Got out just a bit ago to go make sure the roads were clear down here, because my g/f has to go to work at midnight. I didn't think things would be bad because yesterday there wasn't much flooding in this area. I was wrong, and we were barely able to find a good route to town, and even it had a little water on it. Most of it would drain down by midnight I'm sure, but now it looks like there's a little more headed toward my area. There were two chicks in bikinis swimming in the ditch on the way in though.
