  1. I'm still wondering why the guy that messed up my hunting never noticed my decoys. They were set up in the edge of the field out in the open on the side of the hill. He was a pretty good distance away, but I know I would have noticed them if I were walking around looking for turkeys. All he was paying attention to was the gobble from the woods on the other side though, and kept heading that way until the turkey left the area. So let me ask this.....Is waiting until after daylight, and then walking around all over the county every time I hear a gobble trying to wear them down until they don't run or fly off the correct way to hunt? If so I would be just as well off to ride around on a four wheeler or in the truck until I see them and try to run up in the middle of them and get a quick shot off. I was under the impression that I should try to get in close to them before daylight, set up, and start trying to call them in close enough for a shot after they fly down. I think next weekend I'm going to just go back to the area with my gobble call, and see how far I can get this guy to follow me up and down those hills.
  2. I just about give up. Everything was perfect yesterday morning. Got in the woods a good bit before daylight and got set up. Shortly after daylight I hit the call a little, and had one coming across the field from the woods on the other side. He was headed in our direction, but taking his own sweet time about it, and gobbling alot. It wasn't long before I looked way down on the other end, and noticed someone walking right throught the middle of the field. The guy walked right to where the turkey was gobbling, and headed in the woods after him. Last time I heard him gobble it sounded like he was in the next county. I bet I would see less people if I hunted public land than I end up seeing hunting private land. One of these days, hopefully while my dad is still able to hunt with me, I will find a decent place to hunt.
  3. You just have to be careful how you speak of shopping there. I went there one time with my dad, my step-mother, and step-brother. When we got there, me and dad started walking across the parking lot, and my step-mother and step-brother decided they wanted to go to the art store that was in the same shopping center. They yelled to let us know they were going over there, and I yelled back "ok, yall go look at the art store, me and dad are gonna go look at Dick's". This seemed to embarrass them, as there were lots of folks in the parking lot that might have taken that a different way.
  4. Is it bad that I almost always say "mater" instead of either one of those, but yet I say the word in question as kare-ah-mell?
  5. Yup, me too. My accent is about as southern as you can get even.
  6. X2. I think what will get me will either be cigarettes, or the government will kill me for trying to live by and support the U.S. Constitution.
  7. X2 I'm sure there are occasions where I've been too lazy to throw that extra "a" in there, but it's definately there for a reason.
  8. X2 But I will also add that no matter what you do, when driving down the road in a Jeep with the top down, you will lose most, if not all bass. IMHO I would think his best option would be to concentrate more on the quality of the door speakers so that he can get more sound with the volume at lower levels, or maybe an upgraded radio, and not worry about trying to get more bass.
  9. Trying to correct the aim only makes things worse as well, because usually at the time you simply can't try to aim both streams. Turning the nozzle off is usually also not an option at this point as well, and half the time for some unknown reason no matter what the stream is hitting I laugh uncontrollably, which also causes me to lose control of the streams even more.
  10. I agree, and I know a couple of officers who treat this as one of the worst traffic violations there are. A few weeks ago I had an incident in which I could not contain my stupidity. The guy was tailgating me and I couldn't see his headlights, so I, trying to be calm and collected as usual (especially when my g/f is with me because she hates any form of voilence, slowed down in a passing zone to almost a stop so he could go around me. He refused to go around me, so I sped up thinking he would get the message to stay back off my bumper. After about a minute he was right back on my bumper again. That's where my stupidity kinda got the better of me, and I stopped in the middle of the main highway and walked back to ask him what his problem was, in a less than polite manner. I realized it was a very dumb thing for me to do, and it got me in alot of trouble with the g/f as well, but in the end he apologized several times and then agreed that he should go around me. Sadly, there's no telling what I would have done had he not apologized, but thankfully none of us had to find out. Heck, he could have shot me or just about anything in the situation. Other things would be: People who get permission to hunt on a small plot of land, and think it entitles them to hunt on all of the surrounding land for miles as well. People who can't drive a consistant speed. I'm never in a hurry, but do not drive 35 one minute and 55 the next, and then back to 35 the next, and if you speed up when I try to pass you for doing this you are likely to have to make the choice between the side of my truck hitting you, or you having to drive in the ditch. I could go on and on, but I guess in the end "People" pretty much sums it up. I don't like anyone that I don't know, or at least have an association with like talking to them on the internet. To make things worse, I also don't like half of the people that I do know or have an association with. In general I'm a calm person though, and only very few people have ever seen me get angry.
  11. I don't have enough patience to buy long guns from BPS, every time I've ever been in there you can't even get close to the counter hardly. They are weak on accessories, but just in general it may be my bad luck because like I say even some of the things that I know they carry they are usually out of when I go to buy it. I like the gun layout at Gander much better, because I like to be able to fondled the firearms without having to ask a salesperson to hand me 30 different ones from behind the counter. Not sure really if Cabelas would be any different than either of those two as I've never been to a Cabelas store, just think it would be nice to have that other option in outdoor stores like that.
  12. I'm the same way. I wish there were a Cabelas in this area somewhere. I haven't been happy at all with Bass Pro really. Out of probably 50 or more trips there, I think I've only bought anything maybe twice from them. They're always either sold out of what I'm looking for, or don't carry it at all, and I end up just saying to heck with it and leaving. I go to Gander Mountain in Huntsville pretty regularly as well, and have bought things several times from them, but they're prices are way to high on most items, so I'm not really thrilled with them either.
  13. X2. They should make an example out of him by chaining him to a post and letting everyone that wants to take turns beating him until he's dead. There should be 0 chances for appeals because he is definately guilty. Some of the biggest things I hate about situations like this are that a man that is definately guilty of a crime such as this will get the chance for appeals on his case. Then after that, he must also be treated in a humane way even if he should be put to death, it has to be painless. :poop: Then on top of that the mother should spend the rest of her life in prison where she would never be allowed to have anymore children to put into this kinda situation. No matter who did the abuse, she could have done something about it before the boy lost his life, so in a big way she killed the child just about as much as this guy did. The abuse of a child is the abuse of our future, and should not be tolerated.
  14. Hmmm, maybe it was. Haven't checked that thread in a few days. Good thing my adult beverage choice wasn't something to mix with water.
  15. I would have thought the mixer would have to be the regular beverage choice instead of something different, which if I remember right sweet tea was in the lead. If the mixer for the adult beverage were different, it would mean that everyone would have two regular beverages to choose from, which I believe would throw off the entire balance of the island we're all going to.
  16. Sometime in the near future I'm gonna have to start going to the gym. Being stuck here in this officed I don't have much opportunity for regular exercise from my job. Then on top of that when I messed my knee up last year I gave up some of my hobbies that kept me in shape. I've since put on 40lbs because of it, and it just keeps making me lazier every day. The place I hunt at has about a 20 minute walk up a hill that's almost straight up. Here lately, I often think that I'm going to die right there in the woods before I get to the top. My dad is pushing 60 years old, and doesn't have much trouble at all with the climb to the top. Always makes me feel like I'm older than him, so that's confirmation that the more out of shape you get, the older you'll feel.
  17. I've been feeling old for a long time now, and I'm not really that old. I've been working in the same place now for going on 14 years, and everyone else that works here is over 60 years old. Trust me this kinda situation makes you feel old.
  18. Hmmmm, maybe this is why Mike has been asking his questions here lately about UFO's and what we like to eat and drink. Aliens are coming to get us, and we're gonna all be eating pizza and drinking sweet tea and a still undetermined adult beverage.
  19. Bud Ice. In my drinking days that was my beer of choice. But Light tasted too much like water to me, and everything else gave me a hangover.
  20. That's kinda why I go through so much more .223 than any of the other calibers I listed. It's not just complete banging away though, because my goal after shooting a while is to quickly empty the 30 round mags but try to keep them in about a 6"-10" circle @ 100 yards. Either way I still have a goal with what I consider banging away, but I'm betting some just fire wildly as fast as they can to just see if they can even hit the target. Personally I think it's always best to have a buddy with you so that there's at least a little competition. This makes you really think each shot through instead of just trying to get lucky with one shot out of several.
  21. Anyone that does a good bit of shooting wouldn't be surprised at those numbers. One thing my AR taught me was how quickly you can eat up ammo when it's 30 rounds at a time before reloading. No matter how big my .223 ammo supply gets, I always know in the back of my mind that it is never enough.
  22. Roughly for each caliber per year: .45 = 50-100 .40 = 100-200 9mm = 500 .270 = 10 Just to check the scope occasionally .280 Rem = 40-50 7.62 x 39 = 50-100 .223 = 1000 Seems like I'm forgetting a few in there somewhere, and there's several rounds of shotgun shells every year as well in 12ga and 20ga. There's a few others, but that's about the majority of what I shoot regularly every year. Like some of the others mentioned I've just about switched over to .22 for the majority of my shooting. I'm up to 5 different .22 rifles now and probably eat up 5000 rounds of ammo or more between them. It's more relaxing that way, because with the others I start getting worried if I shoot too many rounds out of my ammo supply.
  23. Up until this year I felt the same way you did. I also never could figure out why everyone said it was so challenging to hunt them, because I've had them walking all over me before during deer season. After going though I must say, there's nothing like sitting in the woods before daylight (and even after daylight) and hearing them gobbling close by. Plus the biggest reason we chose to hunt them this year is because they are eating up everything in the woods leaving the deer no reason to come into the area. My belief is that if you have a hunting area you're trying to manage to any extent, it's best to hunt everything in the area to keep the population of each species from running out all the others.
  24. At least if you shoot those you wont have the kinda legal issues that you have when shooting noisy neighbors.
