  1. Definately a very nice collection. I've been wanting to get all of mine out for a group photo, but just haven't had time. Hopefully when I do I will find an M1014 in there, but I doubt it. I've been wanting one of those ever since you listed that one for sale a while back.
  2. Wow, it's funny you should mention that because just about a week ago my boss got pulled over the very same way, and was told that his tag came back as stolen out of Memphis. Granted my boss is 65, and was only a block away from his business, and the tags on his truck were Maury County tags. He opted to go get a new tag so that it didn't happen again, and there they told him that the officer or dispatch must have ran the wrong tag number. This was also Columbia PD.
  3. That sounds about like the way they do business. Personally if I had written the letter and got this kinda response I would definately take him up on the offer of ... They have records and know exactly who it was that stopped you that night, no matter what kinda run around he wants to give you. Out of all my dealings with LEO's I can say that I've only really had a couple of bad experiences where they tried to act like they had more power than they actually do. In one situation, my cousin and I were stopped on night talking in a local parking lot. In this area I do know that loitering is not allowed in most places, but since we were only going to be there for a second I didn't really see that it hurt anything. The cop pulled up and began questioning whether we were drinking or not, and then walked about 50 yards to the ditch and picked up a half empty beer bottle. It was obvious it had been there a while, the label was even faded, but he chose to hand it to my cousin and make him pour it out as if he had been drinking it. Then he continued to question us and make comments about smelling alcohol, until my cousin finally had enough of it and in a rude way pointed out that he had just poured that beer he handed him out right where we were standing. After making us stand there and loiter for about 30 minutes longer than we would have to start with, he finally let us go. However, my uncle did not take kindly to an officer handing his 17 year old son a beer, and there was definately a complaint filed in that case. The other was a similar situation, because I was talking to a buddy of mine that owns a body shop here in town one night after they had closed. A LEO pulled up and started making threats about how we had 5 minutes to get out of the parking lot before he came back and started writing tickets. We were leaving, and would have most likely been out of the parking lot in that amount of time had he not stopped by. With this though, we had no choice but to continue to stand there and wait for him to come back. When he returned, he was mad and got out with the intent to be a smart a$$. My buddy let him speak his peace and act like he was going to write tickets, then handed him his ID and pointed out the fact that the name on the ID matched the name on the body shop sign, so he better make sure he knows who he's talking to before he pulls back in that parking lot. It's just always funny to me to watch some LEO's when they think they have more power than they actually do.
  4. Definately one of my favorites as well. A while back, I was sitting on the couch drinkin a cup of coffee, and wearing a flannel shirt because it was a little chilly. I happened to glance at the guide on the tv that reminded me this movie was made in 1993, which makes it and old western even though I consider it a newer movie. That's when it occurred to me that I truely had become my father. On the original subject, it just never ceases to amaze me at how sensitive the people of this world have become. If you can't take criticism over spelling then you really shouldn't be typing on the internet. Heck, if I couldn't take jokes over simple things like that then I would have most likely been killed a long time ago. I'm also amazed at how many people come on forums such as this with the specific goal of stirring up, and then when the people in charge finally get tired of it and ban them they get mad and start making threats, and just generally continue stirring the more and more. How do these people have so much time on their hands?
  5. Since his thinking on most things seems to be to screw the American people out of as much as he possibly can, I think he will wait a while before doing anything. All the assault weapons buying has slowed down some, but firearms and ammo buying has not. Once he feels that the American people have spent as much money as they can on it, he will then try to pass laws to force law abiding citizens to hand over all that they have spent their hard earned money on. Never know though, but I really don't worry about it too much. Here lately it seems that everyone around me is becoming a criminal in some way or another, while I sit around and try to keep my record clean. The day they pass such laws against firearms will be the day that I simply head over to the non-law abiding citizen way of life.
  6. I have to agree with your way of thinking on all of that. Personally I have a decent plan of action, and am decently prepared in a SHTF situation, but I simply do not have the means to plan for every possible scenario such as nuclear war. I know some have them, but I myself do not even have gas masks for other types of chemical warfare. Bottom line is, there are always possible situations where no matter how prepared we are we're not going to make it. I've also looked at other aspects such as the people around me (who are definately not prepared). I am lucky enough to have most of my immediate family close to my area where I can get to them, we can group up, and head to our safe location together. Personally if these close friends and family do not make it through then it wont really matter much to me if I make it or not either. I have the means to cover my own survival, but when you factor in the fact that I also have to cover other people's survival because they refuse to believe anything bad can happen, it puts the ability to prepare for everything way out of reach for me. All I can hope for is that if a SHTF situation should arise, it begins slow enough that others can at least get partially prepared to help me out with my plans of action. I have to hope that there will be some kind of warning at least a day or more in advance. If not I suppose I will be the drunk crazy guy sittin on my roof shooting at everything that moves until I die.
  7. X2, I highly doubt I will ever get in this situation. Should something bad happen like theft, I would simply spend the following Saturday tracking down at least 500 rounds of every caliber rifle and handgun that I own. If I didn't have the money, I would have to resort to taking out a personal loan or having one of my vehicle's refinanced or something. I simply can NOT be without ammo.
  8. I worry every day about the safety of my firearms, but as of right now there is always someone at my house or watching my house so it's not too bad. I'm in the process of saving for a good gun safe, but as it's been posted just the cheaper ones wont do for me. False walls and hidden places under the floor are great ideas, but they only keep out those that do not know about them. Most people's worst mistake in doing this type of thing is showing off their handy work to their buddies, or even talking about the locations of such things....
  9. Personally I would go with just a flashlight and fiber optic sights. To me the size of the beam on the flashlight is about the area that I am going to be shooting. Just like a laser on a rifle or pistol only puts out one small spot where the one round fired will go, the flashlight beam covers the area where the shotgun will be covering. I'm kinda fond of the red dot scopes on shotguns as well, but in a HD situation I would rather not have to turn anything other than the flashlight on. As for the 5-40 that is referring to the thread size.
  10. I've been thinking about picking up one of the Remingtons because they are priced so cheap, but still ended up going with another 10/22 this past weekend as part of two seperate project rifles I'm working on. For me one of the biggest reason's I like the 10/22's are for the simplicity of them as far as stripping one completely down, trigger group and all. I also have a stainless WallyWorld special model with the longer barrel, and at 50 yards it is much more accurate than the Marlin 60 that I have. Let us know how well your Remington does though, because for some reason I've been on a big .22lr kick here lately and might end up picking one of those up as well.

    stolen guns

Sorry to hear about this, especially if it was an inside job. Alot of times in cases like this safes don't make any difference unless you and you alone are the one with the key or combination to get in them. I have an uncle who has one of the best safes out there, and still ended up with someone stealing all of his guns because he made his daughter mad one day and she gave the code out to some people. No matter how much you trust someone, you never know when you may make them mad and they will hit you where it hurts.
  12. If the prices are good, it doesn't make much of a difference to me. I don't own a gun shop, and don't even sell any guns and ammo, but it would seem to me that this type of thing is what all gun shops do isn't it? Don't they buy big quantities of ammo and then resell it for a higher price? I know what you're talking about though and have seen several bulk deals where individuals make alot of money because of the amount of ammo they are selling at the time when no one else can find any. Personally, I'm a hoarder myself, and I never sell any so I can always just wait until I find it for the market rate.
  13. You would think the policies on this would be much different. Heck, you can't test drive a vehicle without showing them your driver's lisense, and even though this is mostly to prove you can legally drive I don't see where showing some identification would be any different in buying a house. I would think that all information should be gathered before an agent shows a house for everyone's safety. If someone is in the market for a new house, alot of times they work with a certain agent on several listings anyway. Seems like it would benefit everyone to already have their info on hand before showing them the houses you have listed. Personally if I had my house listed, unless everything I own is already moved out, the potential buyer would just have to wait until I was home as well so that I could keep an eye on them, or they would definately have to show some kind of identification. I know in this case the agent was the OP's mother, but in other cases the home owners don't know their agents very well. It would be just about impossible for me to let a near stranger show other strangers around my house while I was not there.
  14. Lol, some dogs are really smart and hard to keep locked up like that. I had an old bird dog that somehow got where he could unbuckle his collar. It also brings to mind a cocker spaniel I once had when I was a kid. One night, my family was getting ready to sit down to dinner. Table was all set, and we were having a casserole that was in the middle of the dining room table in one of the heavy casserole dishes with the lid on it. Right before dinner, my aunt, uncle, and cousin stopped by and we all went outside to visit before they had to get back on the road. When we came back in, nothing was out of place. The lid was on the casserole dish, and nothing was turned over on the table. However, there was no casserole, the dish was licked so clean that it looked like it had been washed, and the lid was put back on it. The cocker spaniel was the only living thing in the house that coulda done it.
  15. It was definately an odd mixture, but made for one absolutely wonderful dog. Looks wise he was 100% saint bernard, but he had the intelligence of the healer. Also most saint bernards only live half as long as he did, and he was fairly healthy right up until he passed away other than just generally getting around like an old man. He made nearly every step I made the whole time I was growing up. I sure do miss him.
  16. It would be a tough choice between one of my 12ga shotguns and my AR, but most likely I would go with the AR. For me it's one of my most accurate long guns, so I could make VERY well placed shots on anything that I needed to shoot. With mine being .223, it's small enough that head shots on small game wouldn't do too much damage to the parts that I would be eating. It's also large enough that a well placed shot on a deer would get the job done as well. It's easier to carry the rifle and ammo around than any of my other long guns as well, and more capacity in the mags. Even though some would disagree, it would also be good for duck or bird hunting in this type of situation because normal hunting laws will not be a factor, and I could sit around somewhere and pick doves off the power lines with it. The only issue I would have with it is the fact that it's much louder than what I would really like. A suppressed .22 would be ideal, but my only issue would be in the ability to bring down larger game and/or BG's with it. The 12ga would be nice, but the range, mag capacity, and ability to carry extra ammo would probably cause me to make the AR choice. The only real advantage is that a good pump shotgun would be more reliable than most AR's out there over a long period of time with no ability to get replacement parts.
  17. Up until I was about 23 or so I had a st. bernard that had a little blue healer in him. He had been with me for around 15 years, which was basically most of my life at the time, and he was the best dog I've ever been around. When he died, I tried to replace him by getting another st bernard, and that turned out to be a disaster. She ate my bathroom, the whole bathroom, vanity, toilet seat, tore the faucet lose in the bathtub, everything. She loved water, and she knew where it came from and thought she could eat her way to it. She also kept getting in my swimming pool during the day and making a complete mess of it. There was a ton of other stuff that she either ate or broke as well. She wasn't a mean dog at all, she just absolutely hated being left alone, so even though I had about $1500 tied up in here I eventually gave her away to a couple because there was always someone home at their house. Last I heard that hadn't had any trouble at all with her. After that I decided that I don't need another pet until I get to the point that there is someone at my house all or at least most of the time. If and when I get to that point, it will either be a german shephard, a retriever or lab of some sort, or a boxer.
  18. I got mine Monday as well, and received my first shipment of 2010 from them yesterday. For me their website has been great, but you still can't beat being able to thumb through a catalog and see pictures of things you didn't realize you needed. When I go online, I generally only look at specific things that I need, where with the catalog I'm looking at everything for every gun. My g/f has been making fun of me because I've been getting in bed early just so I can lay there and look through the catalog every night. It's great to get a catalog this size that is full of color pictures. It's kinda like the old Sears Christmas catalogs that I use to love to look at when I was a kid. Only thing different now is the type of toys I'm looking at. If they backorder anything, you can sometimes expect it to take several months to come in, but other than that I love dealing with them.
  19. Yeah, there's no way I could cut that one up. Also if it's mostly going to be a piece to hang on the wall, it will look much better as is for that purpose. If it were an old double barrel I wouldn't have a hard time cutting it up, but I just think one like this should be left as is. Just my .02
  20. New Remington quality in the 870's was kinda what I was wondering about. I have several other Mossberg shotguns that I've never had any trouble with, but then again I only have a few long guns at all that have had any problems. This also isn't going to be a gun that gets fired hundreds of rounds per year. I'll probably shoot it a few times to pattern it, and after that it will only be fired maybe once or twice a year. If the quality of the new 870's is close to the same as the Mossberg quality, I will probably end up going with another Mossberg because cost wise the mossy route will allow me to also purchase my squirrel gun project now instead of later, which will aslo in turn allow me to have the spare parts to finish rebuilding another .22 rifle that I'm rebuilding for my step brother. I was almost dead set on getting a new 870 SPS-T, but now I'm leaning back toward the cheaper route of a Mossy 835. I hate how I do this everytime I get ready to buy a new firearm. I wish I was more of an impulse buyer.

    Slugs in shotguns

It should also be noted that it may not be because of the choke at all. Some 12ga shotgun barrels are overbored to reduce recoil, and you're not suppose to shoot slugs in those because they say they can turn and get lodged in the barrel.
  22. The floorplate and catch that you have don't look worn out at all from the pics. I'm no expert on it so about the only other thing I would know to look at may be the catch spring or the catch pin. If the pin is worn out or the hole that the pin goes through it might allow enough play for the catch not to work properly. Also I don't know if it makes a difference on the 1903, but just in messing around I found that how the floorplate gets closed makes a difference on another rifle I have. I once held the catch while I closed the floorplate and then let it go, and it didn't latch properly. I think the main thing I would look at first would be the catch pin or a good cleaning and oiling on the catch to make sure it isn't getting stuck and not latching fully.
  23. I know season is still a little ways off, but it's looking like I'm going to take up turkey hunting this year which gives me an excuse for buying a new shotgun. I've been back and forth on which direction I want to go for it, but I know I'm looking for an all camo 12ga. I've about decided on a Remington 870, but I've also thought about just picking up a Mossberg 835 since they are alot cheaper. The 2nd route would also let me go ahead and get started on my squirrel gun project for this next season. Which way do you folks think I should go on it, and what do you turkey hunters use? I'm leaning toward the 870, but are there some other good shotguns out there for a decent price that I should take a look at first? If you've got any pics post them up if you can.
  24. The only two brands I would be interested in would be either Bowtech or Mathews personally. If you're partial to Bowtech then I would lean that way if I were you. I myself have been bouncing back and forth on what I want in a bow for a year now. In that time about the only real decision that I've been able to make on the subject is that I know I'm not going to buy a new one this time. Bows seem to lose their value quicker than vehicles do.
  25. I'm going with the polymer group on the one I'm rebuilding right now, but I'm doing it for someone who will probably never fire it. I'm also going to purchase one of the newer style 10/22's in the next week or so, and as much as I shoot and disassemble my rifles for cleaning it will be interesting to see how well the polymer holds up to that. For me I'm not worried about it breaking as much as I am about the holes for all the pins wearing out easily and causing the whole group to have alot of play in it. I will know in time I'm sure, but most likely that will be one of the first things I change out on the new one that's for me to go back to the aluminum. Of course, as long as it holds up good I will continue to use the polymer one. Only time will tell though.
