  1. I don't think you'll have the backlight issues on the paperwhite.  It definitely is an issue on my cheap basic model.    As far as the charger goes .. it comes with a cord you can connect to computer that will charge it.  If you have any of those Apple-branded brick things that come with iPhone/iPod/iPads or any device that plugs a USB cord into a wall outlet (can get this adapter at Wally world for like $10-$15), you can use that and the cord that comes with it as a charger.  Plug the cord into the adapter and boom!, charger made.    Also, lots of places will run specials on them throughout the holidays.  Amazon usually has a couple of days that its a good deal.  Best Buy the same, just keep your eye out for them.
  2. Correct.   The PaperWhite and other reader-only versions will connect to the internet, but only allow you to manage what is on your device.  You can purchase/download new books, manage what books are on your device at any given time, etc.     The Fire will act essentially as an iPad and allow you to surf net, online banking, watch Netflix/Hulu, run gaming apps, etc.  A lot stuff (and expense) it doesn't sound like you want.     Another cool thing about the Kindle's is once you own a book, it links to your Amazon account.  You can then read on your Kindle, or one of many other devices (your computer, an iPad/iPhone app), and it will sync your reading across devices.  So if you're reading on your Kindle, but then the next day want to read from your computer, it keeps track of where you are and when you log into your computer starts you off at the last place you were reading from the Kindle.     I also find it to be relatively quick and easy to manage your library on the Kindle.  Mostly done through the Amazon website, or the device itself.  I've never had an issue getting non-Amazon books (from other sites mentioned in previous threads) onto my Kindle and reading them.  It's also been relatively easy figuring out how to get e-books from my local library onto the Kindle for my reading enjoyment also.     All things considered, Amazon has a pretty well thought out e-reader experience in my opinion.
  3. Many of the Kindles come standard with the ad feature (even just the reader versions have this). When purchasing through Amazon there is an option to purchase "without special offers" which removes the mandatory ads, however, last I checked that increased the price of the device by at least a $100. If you have one with special offers you can also pay the additional money after purchase through your amazon account and they will be removed. I have a standard Kindle and wife has a fire. I don't care for the fire but I don't need it for all the fancy web surfing and games (I have a iPhone for that). I do wish I had gotten the paper white with the backlight as the standard Kindle is unreadable at night without the lamp. I'll +1 all the above on battery life and etc. I couldn't be happier. I haven't tried any other readers though so there's that. I should also say I purchased mine (a 2013 model) right after they released the 2014's and they had a coupon for $60 bucks off so I paid a grand total of $9 bucks for mine, so my expectations were low to start with.
  4. I too like egg nog but usually buy the pre-made stuff at the store and don't add anything too it, except maybe a touch of kahlua (or other coffee liqueur). My recent go-to's have been a certain kind I can only find at Kroger (although not Kroger branded). One is sugar cookie egg-nog and the other is a gingerbread one. Both are delicious.
  5. I'm "into" them, but have never had flashlight GAS. I have 6 or 7 of them over the last few years, but a buddy of mind has over 100 of them (and by quality I mean fenix, etc.). He has a real problem ... My overspending hobbies are guns/ammo and whiskey, try not to mix the too. Other hobbies include golf and biking, but never got the "bug" to blow lots of money on them.
  6. Great time last year. I'm definitely in.
  7. Let me know what you think of B-house. Have a bottle but haven't opened it yet. Hersh if you like Jack D and ever make it into Nashville, Frugal has a delicious Jack Daniel's Single Barrell store pick right now. They've got two on the shelf but you'll want the one with barrel # ending in 33.
  8. Heard on the radio it may also have to do back when polls were located in bars in some community ... didn't want anyone voting drunk. Just what I heard ... didn't verify at all so if it's wrong blame Uncle Phil V from 99.7
  9. I've only tried the Benheim once ... but tried 4 different barrels of it at a barrel select station at a whiskey festival. I didn't care for any of the 4. I'm not saying it's terrible, but certainly isn't for me.
  10. Depends on what you're looking for. By far the store I've found with the best selection-to-price ratio would be Red Dawg in Franklin (and also always great barrel picks). I live in Hermitage though so don't make it out there much. Red Spirits in the West Nashville/Bellevue area usually has a great selection and good prices also, but again the opposite side of town as me. In Nashville my go-to spots for selection is Midtown Wine and Spirits on Church, but they're priced a little higher than most. For best price I'd choose Frugal MacDoogal, but their selection is limited. They focus more on moving quantity, so don't always have the most variety of top shelf stuff as some of the others. I usually buy my mixer whiskeys/vodkas here, although they do have a fair amount of top of the line stuff.
  11. I have a half empty bottle of the Ocean in my closet.  The whole idea behind this bottle seems a little "kitchy" to me, but in my opinion it's a very respectable drink (and maybe the bobbing of the boat, the salty ocean air, and the extremes in temp actually help).  I love the nose on that one, definitely some brown-sugar and caramel, little vanilla.  Feels pretty in the mouth too, not too oily, and not a whole lot of burn on the way down.  One of my favs, definitely nursing the last half of the bottle of have.  I believe I paid $85 for mine here in Nashville.
  12. I quit paying attention to this trash newspaper many years ago ...
  13. From my reading of reviews of this years BTAC the WLW received the top review and was the least produced ... I'm hoping to catch an Eagle Rare 17 and a George T Stagg, but would be happy just to find any of then near MSRP. If I can't find at any stores I'll do without. I'm Not paying the inflated "flipper" prices some of these bourbons have acquired.
  14. From what I understand this was mostly released in East TN. Haven't seen any in Mid TN yet, at least at the few places I frequent. You're in the business though, does this sound reasonable? Or could I have just missed it?
  15. Did you think of this because GT makes you feel like Jade in a Tarzan comic?!?
  16. What's absurd is the last time I went (about 1.5 years ago) this is what happened ... I didn't know it was gun-free or that they would wand you. Get in line to the point that I see they're wanding, but also too the point I'm not getting out of line. I get wanded and it picks up my pocket .380 which is behind my phone. Guy says "empty your pockets." I pull out keys/wallet in left hand, phone in right hand; was planning on saying something about the gun, but he wands me again, but more toward my center. He goes "do you have a belt on?" I say "yes" and show him the metal closure. He says "ok that's what is setting this off." Lets me put phone and etc. back in pocket and wishes me a good day. I walk in, .380 and all feeling somewhat like "wtf" and somewhat glad I didn't create a situation. ... just goes to show you how thorough they are
  17. for real ... but maybe i'm just jealous they can shoot better than me, on the move, with hundreds of zombies chasing them,  with full auto fire, without any training ...   i also like this show (well, i didn't care for last season)
  18. thanks for the heads up ... i don't think i have either of the N's yet ... if I can find them, I'll try to just buy them both at the same time so as to avoid any possible confusion ...
  19. wow .. gold plated stoppers ... and i thought my regular stopper collection was going to break the bank ... speaking of those stoppers ... you know what sucks? buying a new bottle of blanton thinking you needed that particular letter, only to find out you already have it when you get back home... :wall: :wall: :wall: i guess there are worse things in the world ... at least i have a delicious bottle of bourbon to work my way through
  20. Have you seen any of the BTAC in your parts? I don't have my hopes up for any Pappy but would love to get my hands on some Eagle Rare 17. Ever had any of the stuff?
  21. Got to try some awesome whiskey at the Nashville Whiskey Festival over the weekend.     The star of the show in my opinion was the Jack Daniel's Frank Sinatra bottle (the girls serving it were easy on the eyes as well  ).  I have a bottle of this, but have never opened it because of the price ... I may be changing my mind, if I can get the wife to sign-off on purchasing another bottle.    Also got to try the Wild Turkey Diamond Anniversary, it was pretty delicious stuff.  The best part of this booth was the fact that Mr. Russell (WT Master Distiller) was there to talk about it.  This stuff was really good, but not something I want to pay what its going in Nashville for (~$130).  I also tried the WT Rare Breed for the first time and really enjoyed it as well.   For me, the best non-ultra-premium offering was the Elmer T. Lee.  I've never tried it before, but will certainly keep an eye out for a bottle of this soon.     There was also a lot of scotch at the event, and I don't care for scotch that much, so there may have been "better" stuff there, but it wasn't for me.
  22. I thought the episode was excellent. Definitely have upped the gore factor a touch with the trough scene ... And how awesome/terrible were the fire zombies?!? Anyway, after last season I had given them 1 episode to keep my attention, and they succeeded, so I guess I'll keep watching.
  23. When I lived in ATL and worked at Grady, I was approached about once a week to purchase EBT cards for $0.33-0.50 on the dollar. Would have been a great deal if they could have verified how much was on the card ... but they never could.
  24. This (link below) ... from the UK, but still applicable here. Also ... I chose the American Flag design for my Discover credit card. Worst decision of my life. Once a month is confused for EBT. Not sure why it makes me so mad, but it infuriates me when it happens ... almost so that I want to change it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2768442/It-s-not-easy-overweight-benefits-says-25-stone-mother-two-wants-MORE-money-government-help-diet.html
  25. I too am confused and had the same question ... so I'll keep my eyes peeled for thoughts and opinions more trained in interpreting legal mumbo-jumbo
