I am using Hodgdon Titegroup, very little to no smoke with 4.0 grains shooting 124 grain 9mm and 4.8 grains, 165 grain in my 40cal. Accuracy is in line with my expectations too. I know some people claim Titegroup is dirty, but my opinion is it leaves the same amount of gunk as shooting the same amount of factory ammo, but easier to cleanup.

For the most part dies are interchangeable. Thread size can be different, but that is more special case dies and presses (50bmg for example). The Lee press and Lyman presses both use 7/8 - 14 inch die threads which is the "standard".

I turned on the prelims halfway into that fight. I didn't realize he was from Knoxville, that's cool. The ref didn't call that right, very controversial....

I will be going up Saturday morning, need some more 9mm bullets and maybe other stuff. I bought primers from David's booth at Hendersonville but didn't talk as the booth was swamped.

I think I have went to the range all but 4 weekends so far this year. The panic and shortages haven't really hurt me, I have been able to find what I needed. Except .22lr, but my parents brought me down 2k rounds they found at Bass Pro up north and since then I have been able to get some at Academy. And since I was able to get small pistol primers a couple of weeks ago I have really been able to shoot my pistols- I even went out in the drizzle today and popped off 100 rounds.   Great find OP. I don't fault anyone for buying what they can find, as long as they use it and not out to make a profit.

Damn I wish I had some money to spare, I would go up there and help collect  :)

I've been to Craig a few years back, nice town. Work is actually asking me to move to Colorado (Denver area) which was a dream a year ago, but I told them no in light of the recent legislation. I like the idea of recommending all homes contain a self defense weapon but it should not be enforced.

I'm an IT tech and strongly recommend Intel and Nvidia over AMD and ATI,but to each his own. Your selections aren't too bad, but personal experiencs force me to recommended a board besides Gigabyte - I used to build machines fulltime and had a 75% dead on arrival for that brand. Also go ahead and order the sata DVD drive and hard drive - DVD drive is about $25 and a hard drive can be had in the $60 range. No point in having all the equipment and not being able to install Windows and use the machine. Also may be worth checking Tiger Direct, pricing and support are better IMO.

That is Lock and Load - Gary the owner is a great guy. He told me he almost refused to try and sell that ammo at the requested price but ended up taking it on consignment. His prices on his inventory are very fair, but with such a little store he cannot keep much inventory but I have priced ordering stuff through him before and it is reasonable. Gary is a range officer out at Mary Co Gun Club as well.   I forgot to mention Steve's early, glad you brough him up. Prices there are normally very fair and Darrell always has a good selection of firearms. His reloading component shelves have been kept bare, at least when I have been able to swing by the store.

I try to email once a week. I just sent an email personally thanking the Senators who voted against the Universal Background Check bill and urged them to continue standing strong. This fight is far from over though.

That is great! I am only 24 but I grew up with Ray Stevens stuff - my parents really liked him and we had every cassette and even several VHS movies. Classic stuff.

I refuse to go into Kings anymore, just like I will never again order from CheaperThanDirt. Teds marked stuff up but not too badly. Lock and Load is real small so doesn't have a huge inventory but Gary is extremely fair with his prices. As noted above Academy and Dunham's can get better prices, so less markup to the end buyer. Only problem with Dunham's is I haven't seen pistol ammo there in months.

Thanks again for the replies and info. I was able to get the dies set to where rounds will correctly chamber but do not fall out when the barrel is inverted. The bullet is not touching the rifling, in fact I seated a bullet so the overall length was under an inch and experience the same sticking in the chamber. I am fully convinced my issue is just the tight chamber after measuring and comparing with a couple of other 9mm pistols. A 0.010 inch difference definitely can cause rounds to stick and not fall out freely. As long as these extract properly I am just going to continue to load and shoot. Edit, forgot to mention I measured the bullets and verified they were .354 to .355 diameter - none hit .356. One of the first thoughts I had was the bullet size as the issue but that was quickly ruled out. The barrel wasn't even on my radar until I spent those hours working with my friend and compared his Glock and Ruger barrels to my Smith.

Thank you everyone for the replies, I just spent 4 hours with a friend who has been reloading for over 30 years and we finally narrowed down the issue....It is my barrel. He was as stumped as I was for a while, we loaded some dummy rounds matching the crimp/seater die to the factory round and were unable to produce a round that would fully chamber and then fall free when the barrel was inverted.   We tested for a while, different brass and different die sets and finally he went inside and grabbed a couple of his 9mm barrels - all of our rounds fully chambered and would then drop free of the barrel. We measured the inside of the barrels and my 9mm barrel was a full 0.010 tighter than his barrels. Mine was as tight as .357 and his was .367 to .371. The barrel does not appear to have any imperfections (it has been extremely accurate with about 800 factory rounds thorugh it), it is just extremely tight which I find to be very suprising for a $300 Smith & Wesson SD series that I purchased expecting to be a mid quality target pistol.   Since the rounds are now fully chambering, I am going to finish loading a batch and shoot them this weekend. Since these are fully seated and have the correct overall length there should not be any pressure issues, and I will just need to watch for extraction problems. I may go ahead and pick up a factory crimp or taper crimp die but at least I can load and shoot until then.

I am using Rainier bullets and they dropped into the mouth of the case fairly easy but not deeply. I think I may be onto something with trying a few cases that are belled less.... I agree on why the crimp is required, and know a taper is recommended for semi autos but wasn't sure if it really made a difference as it should be a light crimp anyways.

I am new to reloading pistol calibers, and have a bit of an issue with loading 9mm using the Hornady New Dimension die set. Part number is 546515, I did not realize before purchase that the seater/crimp die is a roll crimp - not a taper crimp. My issue is that I loaded a handful of rounds, and dropped them in my 9mm barrel to check fit - they would only chamber about halfway. I grabbed some factory loads and used my calipers to verify I was within .002 inches on all measurements. The factory load seat all the way and drop out when the barrel is inverted. This was before I realized I had a roll crimp die and that a taper should be used, but I began adjusting the crimp and was able to get the rounds to fully chamber to the same depth as a factory round. However my reloads do not drop out when the barrel is inverted. I read some articles late last night and plan on picking up a Lee factory crimp die next pay period, but in the meantime want to see if it would be safe to shoot my reloads since they do chamber to the correct depth? I am using 4.0 grains of Titegroup if it matters. One article I read did appear (my understanding of the article) to say that a light roll crimp would work for 9mm reloads and the issue I am experiencing may be caused by over expanding the case? I plan on trying a couple of cases with less of a bell to see if it will make a difference, but would appreciate any advice or thoughts. Thanks! My .40s&w RCBS dies are the taper crimp and no issues there.

I was up there when the doors opened. Was able to pickup small pistol primers and some extra powder. Also found the half inch riser I needed for a good price.

Nice setup…here is mine - sorry no pic available except the small one I uploaded for my avatar. No internal mods yet, but I have an extended mag release and auto bolt release to install just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Aim Sports quad rail over the  carbine wood stock (love the contrast and was cheaper than an Arch Angel kit). Right now a 4x scope on top, puts all 25 rounds in a 2 inch circle at 50 yards and can put 25 in a 5 inch circle at 100 yards. I have a new Vortex 3.5-10x50 scope I think I will install this weekend and try to dial it in more. Have a bipod on the lower rail, and a 45 degree offset holographic on the left rail dialed in for 25 yards. Great shooting, fun at the range and deadly in the woods.

I have the Ruger SR40c and love it. Great shooting pistol, feels good in hand. The day I bought it, I had went into the store to pickup a Springfield XD .40 but walked out with the Ruger. My girlfriend is 5' and has very small hands and she loves the feel of this Ruger (and sure can shoot it). Capacity is 9 and 14? I don't use the full size mag very often.   The M&P is a great option as well from all I have heard, I have held but not shot one and it had a great feel. However, main thing is hold (and shoot if possible) a couple and see what fits your hand the best.

Hello, new member here to TGO. My name is Jonathon. I own a couple of pistols, Ruger sr40c and Smith SD9ve a Ruger 10/22 with a tacticool look and a deer rifle. I am hoping to continue expanding my safe soon, but a few months ago had to start buying diapers which takes away from the 'ME' fund.   I do reload my ammo, which is actually one of the reasons I stumbled into this site: I am looking for some small pistol primers and have been unable to find any. I have reloaded rifle for a while, but am expanding to pistols and can't find the supplies I need. I have plenty of brass and some bullets/powder but no primers. If anyone knows a place that has small pistol primers in stock, or has 200-1000 they would be willing to sell please let me know.   I live and work south of Nashviile, been here all my life. I grew up shooting long guns and just begin shooting pistols a couple of years back. At some point I would like to participate in an entry level competition just for fun, the local gun club here holds events occasionally so may get a chance.   Nice 'meeting' everyone!
