Happy Fathers Day! This is my first, been a very eventful past 8 months. Cannot wait to be able to teach her about firearm safety and drag her through the woods with me.

Powder coating the easy way
TNMTBik3r replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Nice writeup! I do not cast at this time but plan on starting later this year or next spring and am keeping this bookmarked for later reference. -
Dillon has their "no bullshit" customer service policy (I don't have Dillon products so no experience just word of mouth from some friends) but I will agree that RCBS certainly stands by their products and customers every but as much as any other brand out there. RCBS support has always been helpful for the couple of questions I have had, and I have heard many stories such as the OP stated where they send parts free of charge, even if it was not a mistake on their end.

If you plan on reloading in the next couple of years, just hang onto the brass. That is my opinion, I was saving brass a year before I ever got my press and stuff. In fact, I had 1k 9mm brass deprimed and cleaned before I ever had my press (hammer and punch to deprime). My experience with buying brass is that it is usually mixed headstamp and most people are ok with that. I sort all of mine by headstamp but don't keep my brass seperated from range pickup.

What is the most you will pay for ammo?
TNMTBik3r replied to crossfire's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I reload, so no need to buy ammo except .22lr. My price for a 500 round box is $25 max, I don't remember paying over $20 though. As for reloading supplies, it depends on how bad I need it and the specific item (obviously Barnes/Nosler .308 bullets will be more expensive than .355 FMJs). Today for example I passed on CCI small pistol primers at $50 per 1k. Teds has several boxes, but I know that inventory is coming back in stock and prices are falling - a couple of months back I would have paid the $50. I know I can get these primers for around $35 I just have to visit the right store. I also found some Tulla primers for $31.99 and passed on them but only because of the brand. -
My bench is in the garage (the walls are insulated), but I store powder and primers inside the house in a closet. No dehumidifier in either location. I have an automatic adjustable thermostat that switches temperature inside 3 times a day - I was told this helps with humidity but I am not sure how much.

I have not seen powder on the targets, but 4.0 grains of Titegroup results in some powder blowing back onto my wrists. I have been using plated 124 grain bullets, the 4 grains results in better accuracy but 3.8 grains does not cause the powder blow back. I am not sure it is a pressure issue as much as the barrel is too short to allow the full burn (4.5 inch barrel for my 9mm).

Good luck with the purchase. Reloading is a great hobby that I enjoy about as much as shooting. I use a RCBS turret, good compromise in price and speed vs a progressive kit since I reload pistol and rifle.

For Bloomberg, Gun Control Fight Shifts to State Capitals
TNMTBik3r replied to JohnC's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
"A 23% drop from this time last year...". But that means those gun laws are working and we need more .... /s If they worked so well then why did 6 people die in NYC this weekend compared to how many in states with much less restrictive laws? -
Lol.... sums it up well except we know some of the dumbasses who stuck him there.

I agree... but my least favorite of all was Jake,so glad he finally quit (season 3).

I'm excited its back on. Wish I had the chance to handle some of the arms they get to...

Agreed!!

I am studying up on Netscalers now - we have 4 installed in our data center and I will be installing some in Q3 in our new DR site. And I agree on system center - damn good management tool. Anyways, enough thread hijacking :) good luck with your search, my couple of contacts don't know anyone at this time.

I have a couple of years experience with Exchange (still help manage a small internal server) but virtualization certainly has been the correct path. I just got my Citrix cert last week and have my VMware exam later this year. Everyone is on the virtualization and mobility wagons these days.

I knew I should have pursued Exchange training instead of all the virtualization stuff :) Good luck finding someone, I have a couple of contacts I will reach out to for you.

Cannon or Winchester Gun Safe, 24 Gun Capacity
TNMTBik3r replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I picked up the Winchester 24 gun safe at TSC this weekend. I like it, very sturdy feeling and customizable interior. Took a while to get it inside and properly installed (just me and a buddy, be much easier with more people or moving dolly or furniture pads) but it looks great. I really like the electronic keypad vs messing with a combination. My only gripe is there is not a backup method (key) to open the safe but that is minor - keep some extra batteries around and change every couple of months. -
Do you really need to change your oil every 3,000 miles?
TNMTBik3r replied to Volzfan's topic in General Chat
I change the oil in my ranger at 7500 miles. I put 100 miles a day on it driving interstate to work. I use synthetic oil. Manual says 5-10k depending on driving conditions, oil is rated for 15k but I would rather spend more and change it more often than blow something up. -
My process (this is for my 30-06 deer rifle mainly) is to start at the minimum load (average across my 3 books is 54 grains for example) and increase by 1 grain until I hit the maximum (ended up with 54, 55, and 56). I load in batches of 7. My rifle is zeroed with factory ammo, I test at 100 yards. I shoot the first group of 7, spaced 30-60 seconds between shots. Measure the overall group, measure the best 3 shots. Record results, wait 10 minutes for barrel to cool and then shoot batch 2. Repeat, batch 3. I take the best powder load and then adjust the OAL slightly and load another batch of 7. This process has worked well for me. I just finished finding the right recipe for my Savage using Barnes TTSX bullets last weekend. The 7 shot groups seem to be a better test than just 5 shot groups, and I can get an average of the overall and best 3 in the group to compare.

I have an aluminium fence, put up 3 years ago and it cost me $12 per foot installed. A wood fence was almost the same price at the time. Edit, that included price with a 48 inch gate installed.

Moore, OK.... Smashed by enormous tornado
TNMTBik3r replied to mcordell's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I actually flew over part of OK yesterday and saw some dark clouds out the windows, but had no idea about the damage and loss of life until we landed in LA. If anyone here has family/friends in the area I hope all are fine. -
OhShoot almost got shot today, idiots don't need to own guns
TNMTBik3r replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
Maury County is similar, there is an RO but almost always sitting in a building and unable to even see 2 of the 3 pistol ranges. Honestly, I've been to ranges where even having a RO sitting 6 feet away hasn't helped. -

Wow! I thought I had seen some idiots at the range here but nothing quite that severe. Glad everyone made it out of there safely.
